Rubentstein Drive 713 Moreleta Park Pretoria 072-582 4417 [email protected] March 2015 Dear Parent/Guardian Re: Gr. 12/Post Gr. 12 National Benchmark Tests (NBT) Introduced in 2005, the NBTs were commissioned by Higher Education South Africa with the main task of assessing academic readiness of first year university learners as a supplement to Secondary School reports on learning achieved in content specific courses. Universities use the Matric certificate results and the NBT results to steer their placement decisions. The NBTs asses the ability to combine aspects of prior learning and consists of two (2) parts: Academic and Quantitative Literacy (AQL); 3 hours in the morning and Mathematics (MAT); 3 hours in the afternoon, on the same day. Fees, dates, times and venues are available on the NBT website (www.nbt.ac.za). Gr. 12 learners find the NBT’s (MAT) quite difficult and even the high achievers do not necessarily excel. In the light of this we will be running a NBT (Mathematics)-preparation session in order to better prepare Gr. 12s for these unusual tests. Venue: Deutsche Internationale Schule Kapstadt Date: Tuesday, 7 April, 2015 Cost: R840/student (2 undermentioned books included) Website: www.purplepeppermaths.co.za (for information and bookings) The duration of the preparation session is approximately seven (7) hours: 8:00 9 - 11am 11:00 11:30 - 15:45 Registration Mock NBT (Mathematics) Break Discussion of mock NBT and workshop Each student will receive: 1. a workbook specially designed for NBT(MAT) preparation as well as 2. a NBT (AQL) book. There are limited spaces available. You are most welcome to make use of this unique service to prepare your Gr. 12 student for his/her Math NBT. At your service Duard le Roux (B.Sc. HDE Cum Laude)
