Merlin and all the furry critters say thank
you to the community for their continued
support of the Auburn Valley Humane
Society. We adopted 1,093 animals in
2014 with a live release rate of 95.05%.
The outcomes include animals that were
adopted, transferred to rescue groups,
reunited with their owners, died in
shelter, DOA (dead on arrival), euthansia
medical/behavior and owner requested
euthanasia.
AVHS does not euthanize for time limits, space or age of the
animal. AVHS utilizes every resource possible to find forever
homes for the animals in our care.

Transport Story
Harland came to the AVHS shelter as a transfer
in rescue, thanks to the Wings of Rescue -- he
was given another chance in life.
Scout (at time of adoption, Harland) is a
delightful addition to my fur family! The
“adoptions today” sign was out. I sent good
wishes to the adoptees inside and cruised past.
Considering my multiple fur kids at home, I was
definitely not going in to adopt. Right? Inside
there were two dogs, Scout and a long haired
Chihuahua named Trixie. I’ve always been a big dog person but it made me
smile to meet these two. Both of them were really cute and both of them
jumped up to greet me. Scout and I locked eyes. I watched them for about
5 minutes and then...asked if I could hold Scout.
As you can guess, that was that! I filled out the paperwork right then and
there, I paid the fee and home we went (skipped the stop for groceries
since I didn’t want to abandon him in the car). It took a couple of days for
the family to get used to him. My dogs are all stepping into their senior
years (8-9 years old) and Scout’s puppy energy (10 months old) was a bit
trying for them. It still is for a couple of them, so Scout gets a growl here
and there.
I don’t know what made me turn into that PetSmart parking lot, but I am
sooooo happy I did. Little Scout is a doll and very smart!! He has learned his
commands quickly (so far, “off” and “sit”). Thank you Auburn Valley Humane
Society for all you do for these wonderful animals!
