Thursday, March 26, 2015 Greetings! Welcome to Canyon Lake Community Church's ConneXion. This is the place for you to learn about what is going on at CLCC and her ministries. PASTOR DAVE DICK Congratulations to Dave Dick who last Tuesday was commissioned by the Classis of California to the status of Pastor Dave Dick. Pastor Dave was commended by the Classis of California for excellence in his studies and exams. This Sunday in the sanctuary with Pastor Pete 8 a.m. Classic Worship 9:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship 11:00 a.m. Traditional Worship The congregation will have an opportunity to participate in a Commissioning Service for Pastor Dave in the near future. GYM UPDATE The new carpet installation is scheduled for this week. This Sunday is Palm Sunday which traditionally marks the beginning of Holy Week. In the Gospels, we read that "most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, 'Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" (Matthew 21: 89). The crowd was praising and honoring Jesus on this day, but the atmosphere changed just a few days later. As we continue our "Amazing Grace" series and focus on the goodness of God, the question we will consider is whether or not our circumstances determine whether we honor and praise God based on what is happening in our lives, or whether we honor and praise God for who He is, all the time. I am going to ask each one of us to imagine that Psalm 27 is the "branch" we are waving in honor of God's amazing grace. I encourage you to read and meditate on this passage of Scripture before Sunday morning. This Sunday in Threshold with Pastor Thor 9:30 a.m. in the gym 11:00 a.m. in the gym Meeting on Tuesday Mornings Through June 9 10 a.m. In the chapel Contact Pastor Pete to sign up. When it comes to loving the unlovable, there's a lot of guilt involved. "I know I should love this person, but I don't. They're unlovable." It's the same with loving the least, except the guilt isn't over how we feel about them. The guilt is about not doing enough for them. How do we avoid the extremes of guilt and condemnation when it comes to loving the unlovable and the least? This week in Threshold, the topic is how to "Love the Unlovable and the Least." That almost sounds pragmatic, doesn't it? But the answer the gospel gives us is always counterintuitive to what we think is best. At CR you are free to get real about the hurts, habits, and hang ups we all have as part of our experience as human beings. Whether you're dealing with finances, family stresses, depression, overeating, addictions, building honest friendships or maybe you're just plain tired of pretending everything in your life is 'fine' when it's not whatever the case, CR will help you live in true freedom. For those of you who STILL think Celebrate Recovery is just for alcoholics or drug addicts, here is a partial list of other issues God can heal through the Celebrate Recovery Ministry: Codependency This group is for those struggling with the compulsion to rescue and take care of others, have difficulty setting boundaries, or recognizing their own worth. Members in this group learn to express their own needs and wants in healthy ways. Freedom from Anger These recovery groups are for men and women who find that anger is their first response to problems of any size. The anger may be very evident as rage, or less obvious in terms of withdrawal and isolation. These groups focus on managing a Godgiven emotion in constructive ways. Love and Relationship Addiction This group provides a safe place to deal with the depression, isolation, lack of trust, and the unhealthy use of love and relationships as means of achieving worth, that are characteristic of Romance and Relationship Addictions. Sexual Integrity Support group for those seeking recovery from lust and compulsive sexual behaviors. This group provides fellowship, is a safe place to share our struggles, pain and victories and helps to establish accountability and mutual support among the group members throughout the week. Physical / Emotional / Sexual Abuse This group is for those who have endured past physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse. Recovery includes healing from the traumas done to us at sometime in our past, as well as healing from the influence these past experiences continue to have on our lives. Chemical Dependency If you find you cannot quit drinking or using drugs entirely, or if you have little control over the amount you consume, you are probably an alcoholic and / or an addict. If that is the case, you may be suffering from a problem which only a spiritual solution will conquer. Adult Child of Family Dysfunction The family problem of alcoholism made us "covictims" those who take on the characteristics of the alcoholic without necessarily ever taking a drink. Choosing to recognize and exit the modeled behaviors of alcoholism is the beginning of recovery for the ACFD. *Newcomers 101 The Newcomers 101 class is a one time class designed to familiarize you with the various components of Celebrate Recovery. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and to help you identify an openshare group to attend the following week. During the latter part of the class, the group breaks out into a men's group and a women's group to give you a chance to share and to ask more detailed questions.
