enter the scholarly grounds of Trinity
College to view the Book of Kells,

the day at leisure, relaxing or

9, 2015 Dublin - Kilbeggan Athlone - Clonmacnoise -
Castlebar
We start the day with a cross-country
journey to Irish Whiskey territory.
The ancient towns of Tullamore and
Kilbeggan have long been associated
with the whiskey industry. Become
engaged in the process of whiskeymaking and enjoy a tasting of the final
product during a visit to one of these
historic distilleries. Visit the nearby
town of Athlone. Since medieval
times, this place has been an important
crossing point of the River Shannon.
Continue on to the stirring ruins of
Clonmacnoise, site of the great
monastic settlement. Tour the site and
learn about the great Celtic Christian
tradition of the Irish. Finally, settle in
to your County Mayo hotel to begin a

Day 5: Thursday, September
10, 2015 Castlebar - Knock
Shrine - Galway - Castlebar
Today you have a chance to worship
at the Marian Shrine of Knock. Here,
on August 21, 1879, fifteen witnesses
saw an apparition of the Blessed
Virgin with Saint John and Saint
Joseph. The revered site of this vision
is visited by 1.5 million pilgrims each
year. Saint Pope John Paul II
worshipped at the Shrine in 1979 to
mark the centenary of the vision. After
this moving experience we travel to
Galway, the “City of Tribes.”
Following a brief tour, enjoy some
time at leisure to peruse its historic

Day 6: Friday, September 11,
2015 Castlebar - Croagh
Patrick - Kylemore Abbey -
Westport - Castlebar
This morning we visit Croagh Patrick,
St. Patrick’s sacred mountain. It is on
this mountain’s iconic summit that St.
Patrick fasted for forty days in the
fifth century. Next, visit Kylemore
Abbey, a stunning Benedictine
monastery founded in 1920 by nuns
fleeing Belgium during the First
World War. Explore the Abbey and its
historic Walled Garden, restored by
the Benedictine community.
Continuing our journey we arrive in
the quaint coastal village of Westport.
One of the few planned towns in
Ireland, Westport, with its tree-lined
boulevard, is consistently ranked as
one of the best places to live in the

12, 2015 Castlebar - Tobernalt
- Belleek - Belfast
Leave Castlebar for Tobernalt Holy
Well. At this serene spot, enjoy time
to reflect. During Penal times (when
the English controlled much of daily
life in Ireland) this was a place of
refuge for Ireland’s Catholic
community to celebrate Mass. Visit
Belleek Pottery, known internationally
for its highly decorative Parian China.
Tour the factory and learn how these
original pieces are made using
traditional methods passed down from
generation to generation. Arrive in

Experience It! Marian Shrine of Knock
On a late August evening in 1879, Saint Joseph, Saint John and the Blessed
Virgin Mary appeared at the south gable of the church at Knock in County Mayo,
Ireland. From that day forward the church has been a celebrated site, drawing
pilgrims from all over Ireland. Fifteen witnesses, both young and old, confirmed
the vision as did an ecclesiastical Commission of Enquiry. The witnesses stood in
the torrential rain for two hours reciting the Rosary. Before them, these revered
figures shimmered, remaining unaffected by the weather. Some believe they were
delivering a message of reassurance during a time of great social change in
Ireland. Perhaps the message is different for each visitor. Now is your time to
join the growing list of pilgrims who have discovered the moving story of Knock
Shrine.
