S.T.E.P.S. is a summer strength and conditioning program that will introduce students to exercises using
primarily free weights combined with plyometrics, conditioning and agility work designed to maximize
a student’s ability and prepare him/her for the upcoming season. All athletes will be taught proper form
and technique, and will be fully supervised during their entire workout.
S.T.E.P.S. is offered for ¼ credit for SMCHS students. Two full summers of S.T.E.P.S. participation will
result in ½ credit on the student’s transcript (the equivalent of one semester of P.E.).

The focus of this 15th annual soccer camp is to teach elementary and middle school athletes, in a
relaxed and positive atmosphere, the skills they will need to compete at a higher level. All skill levels
from beginner to expert should attend this camp.
Past and present varsity soccer players from SMCHS, including defensive specialists, leading goal
scorers and top midfielders, staff the camp with a 1:5 coaching ratio. Camp starts with one vs. one
possession and build from there, covering passing, receiving, finishing, defensive position and concept.
There will also be camp time for potential goalkeeper instruction. Each player needs to come prepared
with shin guards, soccer cleats, flat tennis shoes, water bottle and soccer ball (#4 for grades 4-6 and #5
for grades 7-9).

This camp is devoted to all levels of basketball players with an emphasis on all of the skills required to play
the game of basketball. Special emphasis will be placed on improving ball handling, shooting, defensive
skills, passing, and understanding the rules of the game. The camp will also include competitive contests.

This camp will focus on helping the individual camper learn and better understand the basics of offensive
basketball. Heavy emphasis will be placed on specific shooting skill, the ability to attack the basket and ball
handling. The camp will include competitive contests and is intended for players desiring an improvement
to their offensive game.

This exciting fourth-year camp will focus on tennis fundamentals. Coach Martin and his staff of assistant
coaches, college players and high school players will cover the rules of tennis, strategy and competition.
Areas of concentration will include conditioning and drill, which will help improve swing and serve.

SOFTBALL
This fun camp is designed to teach girls the fundamentals of softball. Offense, defense and hitting skills
will all be worked on while the campers find themselves enjoying the team atmosphere.
Campers should bring any equipment that they may have. We will also have equipment on hand that a

Are you a runner? Want to be a runner? Or do you want to enjoy a morning of fun running games? Then
this is the camp for you! Athletes of all abilities are encouraged to join. Participants will play “running
games,” develop strength and increase their endurance by the end of the summer season. Current
SMCHS cross country runners will be involved throughout the summer.

Girls Basketball Camp
July 13 – July 16 (M-Th)

This fun camp is designed to teach the proper, ever-evolving technique of the game of volleyball. Serving,
passing and setting skills will be developed, with attacking, block and court awareness at the older-age
sessions. Strong communication and teamwork will also be incorporated at all age levels.
This camp is designed to improve basic basketball skills through individual and team instruction, and
to give players the tools to get better on their own. This fan, fast-paced camp will prepare them for the
intensity of Zephyr Girls Varsity Basketball.
A typical camp day includes warm-up, footwork, ball handling, passing drills, setting drills, serving, games
and team play. Each player should come prepared with volleyball shoes, t-shirt and kneepads. Sign in
starts 15 minutes prior to the first session on Monday.

SMCHS Zephyr Fields
Boys entering grades 5-9

Mr. Jeff Brightwell, fourth-year SMC Football Coach
This camp will focus on skill development in a non-contact environment. Campers will work with the SMC
coaching staff and players to learn the skills necessary to play multiple offensive and defensive positions.
Skills covered will include blocking, snapping, tackling, catching, throwing, route running and coverage
techniques. There will also be an opportunity for campers to work on kicking, punting and long snapping
if they express an interest. Campers will have the opportunity to develop skills in non-contact, competitive
1-on-1 and/or 7-on-7 drills.
Campers should bring shorts, t-shirt, football cleats (soccer cleats are fine) and gym shoes. Water will be
provided. In inclement weather, we will move into the gym.

Middle School Shooting League

Shooting league is designed as an individual shooting competition. During the session, players will focus on
proper shooting form, footwork and mechanics with a lot of repetition.
