National
 The recommendation by the Parliamentary
Panel to grant minority status to migrant
Kashmir Pandits in J & K has led to strong

 Andhra Pradesh govt. has made up its mind to
name the new capital city proposed to be built
near Tullur in between Vijayawada and Guntur
as Amavarathi.
 Supreme Court of India struck down the

which has been used by police to arrest for
posting allegedly offensive content on
websites.
 The proposal of Similipal Tiger Reserve to
launch a state of the art e-patrolling system
will be extended to all tiger reserves in the
country manned by the National Tiger
Conservation Authority.
 Chief Election Commissioner of India H.S.
Brahma said the EC will complete the linking
of Aadhar with Electoral Photo Identity Card
by August 2015.

Food
Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal announced
that Union Government has approved 17 mega
food parks for food processing across the
country out of these 17 food parks, 7 parks
have been allotted to state agencies whereas 10
to private players in 11 states. These food
parks will attract more investment in the
concerned states and generate employment
opportunities. It will also benefit five lakh
farmers who are suffering due to lack of
storage and proper transport system.
 Indian Railway Catering and Tourism
Corporation (IRCTC) in collaboration with the
Union Bank of India (UBI) and the National
Payment Corporation of India (NPCI)
launched RuPay pre-paid debit card service for
the railway passengers. By using RuPay prepaid cards, passengers now can book their
tickets, do shopping and pay service bills.
These cards will be made available from UBI
offices or through IRCTC online. RuPay is
India’s own card payment gateway network
like Master Card and Visa. It provides an
alternative system for banks to provide debit
card service.
 Union Government sanctioned 2,000 crore
rupees as a relief package for the areas affected
by drought in Maharashtra in the year 2014.
Apart from this decision, Union goverment
also decided to sanction the required assistance
from NDRF to the flood hit Himachal Pradesh
and Uttar Pradesh.

Maharashtra Government has made the sale of
Gutka in the state a non-bailable offence
under Section 328 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
It should be noted that Maharashtra was fifth

to ban Pan Masala.

Indradhanush. The media campaign includes a

against all vaccine preventable diseases in the
country. The week-long drive will start on
World Health Day on 7 April 2015 and will be
repeated on the 7th day of each of the
following four months. It will cover all
children less than two years of age and
pregnant women.

change of plan was announced at a press
conference in Washington between President
Barack Obama and President Ashraf Ghani.

father of Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke.
 Renowned Indian Ecologist Madhav Gadgil
has won the prestigious Tyler Prize 2015 for
Environmental Achievement. He will share
this prize with noted American marine

ecologist and environmental scientist Jane
Lubchenco. Madhav Gadgil is second Indian
to receive this prize. First was Father of Indian
Green Revolution MS Swaminathan in 1991.

 Indian-American Renu Khator on 18 March
2015 was elected as the Chairperson of the
Board of Directors of the American Council on
Education (ACE). ACE is the major
coordinating body for US colleges and
universities. She succeeded James H. Mullen Jr
and she will serve for a period of one year.

 New Zealand scripted history by making their
maiden cricket World Cup final appearance
with a stunning four-wicket win in a nervewrecking clash against the South Africa at
Auckland,New Zeland.
Miscellaneous
 Scientists at Australian National University
(ANU) found the world’s largest asteroid
impact zone in the Warburton Basin of central
Australia. The findings were published in the
March 2015 issue of Journal Tectonophysics.
The impact zone is 400-kilometer (250-mile)
wide area. The previous largest asteroid impact
zone was found in the Vredefort crater in
South Africa.
 World Tuberculosis Day (WTD) 2015 was
globally observed on 24 March 2015. The
theme for the year 2015 is continuation of the
2014 theme Reach the 3 Million. The main
sub-theme and message for the year 2015 is
Reach, Treat, Cure Everyone.

 A savings account from which withdrawals can
be made by negotiable orders of withdrawal
(functional equivalent of checks). This is an
interest-bearing account for which the bank
must reserve the right to require the depositor
to provide at least seven days notice of his/her
intent to withdraw funds.
