The Winners & the Players: Strategies for GECs to differentiate in content and capture
audiences
Against a dynamic backdrop of constantly evolving audience tastes and technology, individual
channels are attempting to create a differentiated brand positioning both from consumers' and
advertisers' perspectives. As a result, we are witnessing a new wave of experimentation in
content, ranging from niche, limited period formats, large canvas productions and others. In this
session, we explore some attempts by GECs to carve out programming identities which are
"different" and discuss some of the implications going forward

Unleashing the power of Film Tourism
Ball Rooms 1 & 2
The Indian motion picture and television industry has been recognised as one of the top 25
priority sectors by the Government to foster growth, innovation and investment. India's creative
industries, which include the film and television sectors, have demonstrated their positive
contribution to the nation's economy. In 2013, the total (Direct and Indirect) contribution of the
film and television industry to the country's economy was estimated at c. INR 50,000 Crores,
equating to 0.5% of India's GDP and supports a significant 1.8 million (18.8 lac) jobs. Globally,
production and tax incentives have made a positive impact on state and national economies and
tax revenues, in addition to creating jobs and supporting allied businesses. Is India poised to
take the next leap and establish a film incentive regime?
Ball Rooms 3

Radio Phase III - Challenges and opportunities
With phase 3 auctions for FM radio finally happening with 294 cities and 839 frequencies being
covered and the first batch covering 69 cities and 135 channels (by March 2015), the FM market
is on the brink of a reinvention and a much-needed expansion in content, audience
measurement, frequencies, advertising and the emerging online segment. This session will
discuss the inherent challenges with key operators.

1730 -1830 hrs
Clash of The Video Walled Gardens: OTT & Video Apps versus Cable & Satellite
Ball Rooms 3
Till a few years ago, "walled gardens" in the TV business would largely mean the satellite or
Cable Pay TV businesses. The modus operadi - operators would stack up linear channels, who in
turn would produce or license content from rights owners. Subscribers would have to pay for
channel packs to consume their coveted TV shows. Everything changed with the advent of
broadband and connected devices. All the rules in the TV and Video domains are getting rewritten. The Walled Garden is no longer just represented by the Set-Top-Box - it is an App on your
Mobile and a Smart TV. You may not even require the "Operator" as content companies
themselves can reach users directly via Apps. This session will discuss how traditional
operators will evolve to counter the new services?
Ball Rooms 1 & 2
1730 -1830 hrs
Indian Cinema: Recovering from 2014 - wakeup call for the film industry ?
2014 was probably one of the worst years for Indian cinema in recent memory with poor box
office collections. Movie economics were also adversely affected by dramatic reduction in
demand for satellite rights by broadcasters. In an endeavour to produce bigger and larger
movies, is the emphasis on quality declining? Are studios misreading audience tastes? Are
movie budgets bloated beyond control? In this session, we discuss the road to recovery with key
stakeholders from Indian cinema.

in the light of a post-4G and increasing internet speeds landscape? In this session, we discuss
with the panelists their views on a converged and multi-screened broadcast ecosystem
touching upon content, distribution, challenges and opportunities therein.

An Enbaling Tax Regime for the M & E Sector
The M&E sector is one of the most highly taxed sectors in India. The rollout of the proposed GST

multitude of national, state and local taxes. However, will it ease the tax burden of the M&E
sector or will the fine print be a dampener?

Rising Ascendancy of the Asian Regional Exhibition Phenomenon and India’s Special
Role
One of the key ways to ensure growth for the cinema sector is to increase the number of screens
in the country - both multiplexes and single screens. There are many constraints within a
federal governmental set-up - with a maze of infrastructure and taxation issues. If India is to
become a serious player in this aspect and it is critical that we have a game plan, let us

Are we finally on the last mile to the Big Leagues in sports?
2014 witnessed the emergence of sports as its rekindled the nation's hope and the sports

future content trends, platform specifics and most importantly - revenue flows. How can the
vast media and entertainment ecosystem channelize its vision towards a sustainable
revenue reaping system off the all-encompassing digital landscape - overhauling payment
gateways, broadband speed, consumer sensitization.
Powai 1&2

Emerging alternate revenue sources for kids’ content
Kids' content is developed in most countries primarily through satellite or public
broadcasting or both. In the absence of a strong public broadcasting model, content
creators are completely dependent on satellite broadcasting only. Herein It becomes a
challenge for kids' content creators to build long-lasting character brands and sustainable
projects on the strength of satellite broadcasting alone. It is the coming together of revenue
sources which can create long-term programming with identifiable character brands
specifically for children. Will Indian children's programming develop towards embracing
emerging alternate revenue sources in the digital age?
Ball room 1 and 2
1530 -1645
Young Stars and New Wave Cinema: Is Hindi Cinema finally breaking out of the classic
mould?
Urbane plot lines; taut screenplays ; edgy music and quirky characterisations- for every
Rowdy Rathore, there is a Queen, for every Bang Bang, there is a PK - are audiences and the
trade pundits ready to declare Bollywood finally formula-free? Moreover, in a country with
large audience chunks amidst rural and small town audiences, can that actually happen?
Does that mean that the Indian small town has come of age?
Ball room 3
1530-1645 hrs
Brand Building and engagement in a digital world
As digital advertising and online presence gain ground for brands, there is a growing
realisation that the digital world differs greatly from traditional media. A one size fits all
strategy is unlikely to help brands leverage the full strength of the digital platform.
Additionally, user engagement in a real time and dynamic digital environment is a challenge.
To add credibility to visibility, marketers need to continue to make full use of online by
listening and engaging and not just showcasing. In this session, the panelists discuss what
it takes to build a successful online brand presence.
