Motorways of the Sea (MoS), a horizontal priority of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), aims to promote green, viable,
attractive and efficient sea-based transport links integrated in the entire transport chain.
Their implementation should help to rebalance the EU transport system.
The MoS concept builds on the EU’s goal of achieving a clean, safe and efficient transport system by transforming shipping into a
genuine alternative to overcrowded land transport.
MoS aims at introducing new inter-modal maritime-based logistics chains to bring about a structural change to transport
organisation: door-to-door integrated transport chains.
The Venice MoS Conference on “Efficient shipping operations –Transport and Traffic Management, safety and the Human
element” addresses the global objective of making transport at sea efficient and environmentally sustainable.
Public and Private stakeholders will share with the promoters experiences and prospective views in the framework of the EU
Motorways of the Sea Programme, as to enable Transport Policies to continuously meet the needs of the maritime transport
sector.
In this perspective, the opportunities offered by Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) within the ongoing process of Calls for
proposals leveraging new financing perspectives, such as “Juncker Plan” will be also addressed.
The Venice Conference is embedded in a series of events promoted by the DG Mobility and Transport, started last November with
the Gothenburg Conference on Sustainable shipping for reduction of emissions and furthering next 19 May in Liverpool.
