NAVI MUMBAI: In
Navi Mumbai the
members of Congress,
Nationalist Congress
Party, Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena
are trying all possible
tactics to emerge as
winners in the forthcoming Navi Mumbai
Municipal Corporation
elections. Congress and
NCP have lot of common aspects between
them. Same is the case
with BJP and Shiv
Sena. So even when
there are differences
between Congress and
NCP members, and so
also between BJP and
Shiv Sena members,
but somehow Congress
and NCP tend to unite
when it comes to giving
a fight to BJP and Sena
combined. History is
Bhagat for Congress
and Naiks for NCP. All
these local leaders are
trying to come up with
an equation that would
suit each one best. With
election approaching
closer and closer there
have asked these local
leaders to hurry up and
come up with positive
solutions and adjustments that could benefit their respective parties.
In the meantime,
the witness to such happenings. Congress and
NCP can never be good
bedfellows with BJP
and Sena. That’s a kind
of natural characteristic these parties possess.
In Navi Mumbai,
we have Vithal More
playing the spokesman
for Sena, Manda Mhatre for BJP, Dashrath
are hectic efforts being
made by these leaders
to arrive at a right
equation. They are
studying the statistics
of the past elections in
the city and accordingly drawing conclusions
which could benefit
them in the forthcoming NMMC elections.

sure of being given the
tickets to contest the
elections have already
started trying all kinds
of tricks to woo the people of Navi Mumbai.

BEST goes for
a fare hike

The Brihanmumbai
Electric and Supply
Transport (BEST) has
gone for a second fare
hike, which is applicable from April 1. The
minimum fare will
now be Rs.8 per km and
for children Rs.4. After
the first hike in February, the
BEST had
lost a good
chunk of
business.
The second fare
hike comes
after the
BEST running into losses. The
officials claim that even
after the fare increase,
the BEST would continue to run into losses.
BEST fares for normal and air-conditioned
buses would be hiked by
Re 1 and Rs 5, respectively, from 1 April
2015, the second such
increase in two months.
Regular bus will cost
minimum Rs 8, while
AC Bus will cost minimum Rs 30. Bus passes for students will also
cost more. The monthly concession pass for
Std X students will cost
Rs 200, the quarterly
Rs 550 and the half
yearly Rs 1,000. For the
same validity periods,
Std XII students will
have to pay Rs 500,
1,400 and Rs 2,500.
The regular bus
commuters are affected
and are not welcoming
the fare hike. On the
other side there is some
relief to the Navi Mumbaikar since there is no
any proposal of fare
hike of Navi Mumbai
Municipal Transport
(NMMT) Buses, informed NMMT officers.

Juhugaon as per the Hindu tradition by doing Havan
and pooja early in the morning. It was 8th year of celebrating of Hanuman Jayanti by Hanuman Mandir Trust.

Filing of nominations yet to catch up Man trying to circulate fake notes held

CBD-BELAPUR:
Though the last date
for filing nominations
for the municipal election is only three days
away, few forms have
actually been filed. One
of the reasons is the
ongoing alliance talks
between the Shiv Sena
and BJP. Neither party has distributed any
tickets to the aspirants. Though there are
several aspirants for
each Ward, the parties
have been delaying the
announcement of candidates fearing rebellion.
NCP and Congress,
on the other hand, are
not shackled by any
such calculations. The
delay in the release of
list of nominees is
therefore baffling.
Till Saturday, a total of 31 nominations
have been received.
Sunday being a holiday, forms will neither
be issued nor received.
That leaves only two
days, Monday and
Tuesday. On Monday,
nomination papers will
be issued and received
between 11.00 am and
3.00 pm. On Tuesday,
the last day for filing
nominations, forms
will be issued till 2.00
pm. Filing of nominations will however be
open till 3.00 pm. Ten
Returning Officers
have been put on the
job and they are expected to remain busy
till the scrutiny is over
on 8 April, 2015.

plot to some one else.

meters and earmarked for allotment
under the 12.5%
scheme were wrongly
and fraudulently
leased to some one
else. The land origi-
nally belonged to
Balkrishna Dharma
Tandel before it was
acquired by CIDCO.
Plot Nos 2 and 2A in
Sector-36 Nerul were
earmarked for allotment as compensation
under the 12.5% PAP
scheme. Before it
could be allotted, the
owner Balkrishna
Dharma Tandel died
leaving his only
daughter Radhabai
Ramchandra Patil as
the legal heir. Instead
of allotting it to her,
CIDCO is reported to
have leased them to
one Sanjiv Divekar by
entering into a
tripartite agreement
with him, Radhabai
has alleged.
Radhabai suspects
that CIDCO officials
have conspired with
the lessee for the
purpose. She has
demanded that
CIDCO institute a
proper inquiry into
the matter, cancel the
lease deed and hand
over the plot to her.
She has also demanded that the guilty
official also be identified and punished.

notes.

KOPRI: A 24 year old
youth has been arrested by APMC police in
charge of making illicit
calls to women and
harass them by talking
obscenely. The police
have found five sim
cards in his possession
which he used to make
calls to different
women.
The accused,
Sanjay Bhansole (24)
is a Satara resident
and works in a Sugar
mill near Bhoir area.
Meanwhile, he was
working for a local exMLA. Due to his
obsession with
talking vulgarly and
hassling women, he
used procure phone
numbers of women
make frequent calls
to them. Similarly, he
had called the victim
who is a College
student from Kopri.
After much harassment from Bhansole,
she had lodged a
complaint against
him with APMC
police. Accordingly,
the police traced the
calls and found
Bhansole in Satara
and apprehended him.
He was found to be in
possession of five sim
cards under different
names, which he had
obtained by promising
young men to submit
their documents in
exchange for employment. He used his
connections with the
MLA and illegally
used the taken
documents to buy five
sim cards under
different identity. He
was reported to have
stalked several
women including his
cousin, asking sexual
favors from them.
APMC police is
further investigating
to find out how many
women had been
victim of Bhansole’s
unwanted advances.

India should guard against China’s
imperial behaviour
Sri Lanka, President Maithripala Sirisena, suspended China’s $1.4-billion Colombo port project. Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera announced that Chinese nuclear submarines
would no longer be welcome to dock in Sri Lankan harbours,
even as Sri Lanka ups maritime cooperation with India. Sri
Lanka also signed its first nuclear agreement with India, albeit
one that envisages nuclear safety operations and not energy
generation at present. All these moves, capped by Indian Prime
Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka, sent out a clear
message of India’s importance in Sri Lanka’s external relations.
Each of these is an acknowledgment that India is now the ‘elephant in the room’ when China engages one of its closest neighbours.
We should not read too much in the relationship between Sri
Lanka and China. In any case the tilt towards China made by
the previous regime is being corrected. India and Sri Lanka
being neighbors, there is bound to be some friction. A perceived
hegemony of India will die a natural death if ignored by us.
Steps by Sri Lanka like preventing Chinese submarines from
docking in their harbours and re-examining certain Chinese
projects are positive. However India should be wary of the suggested trilateral arrangement. Past events like the 1962 war
and recent infiltrations such as the Daulat Beg Oldi Incident
and the infiltration coinciding with President Xi Jinping’s September 2014 visit to India are a grave reminder that India needs
to maintain caution when it comes to China.
It is not for Sri Lanka but for China to understand that India is an emerging power and its presence cannot be ignored.

restrict the influence of Chinese’s money power in our Southern neighbourhood, which was going to pose serious problems
not only for India but for Sri Lanka as well. The new President
of SL has also displayed great courage and sensitivity to India’s
concerns. That should certainly help in improving strained relations between India and SL during Rajpakshe’s presidency. For
India, the bonus will come in the form of similar steps from
other South Asian countries, notably Burma and Bangladesh,
who are being targetted by China to spread its wings to such an
extent that it may create problems for India. All said and done,
India’s new diplomatic approach with South Asian nations vis-avis China is paying dividends. This will have far reaching consequences in days and years to come when India attains greater
economic status and plays more important role.
The Chinese do not have any benign intentions when they
come to India’s neighbourhood and dangle their fat cheque books
to woo cash-starved small countries. Their strategy is to deny
the Indian navy its legitimate role in the Indian Ocean. India
has no option but to counter the Chinese moves. China is displaying a typical imperial behavior and India would be right to
keep its guard up.

Police protection for NMMT Problems relating to errant
buses now
autos continue to persist

NAVI MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport has started a new
bus route from Khandeshwar railway
station to Vichumbe bridge, New
Panvel. The special feature of this bus
service is that it has police protection.
The reason for having police protection was the two attacks
on the bus crew that
happened ever since the
services started.
The other new bus
services which are enjoying police protection
are the ones from Mansarovar and Khandeshwar railway station.
NMMT has done yeomen service to
the public by introducing bus service
from Mansarovar to police headquarters in Kalamboli, further extending
it to Roadpalli.

The Trust which helps the
poor and needy

NAVI MUMBAI: Manmohan Agarwal and his family opened a Trust
‘Om Namah Shivay’ to help the poor
and the needy seven years back. The
family is based in Navi Mumbai and
has adequate income for their survival and to bear their expenses.
Every year they have been approaching various slums and villages where
tribals reside and contribute ration,
books and stationery for school children, medicines for medical treatment, clothes and other requirements frequently.
Recently, the family planned a visit
to Taluk wadi, a small tribal area at
Karjat to donate one month ration and
food grains to 70-80 families residing
in the village. This social cause gives
the family a sense of relief and satisfaction that they are able to serve a
few families with food which is the
minimal requirement for survival.
They do this on a regular basis
during festivals, occasions or if there
is any happiness in the family. Serving the poor to bring up the underprivileged and feeding them is the
way of celebrating in their family and
they thank God for this and promise
to continue in future till the time they
can afford.
