Transitional Assessments
Why are there transitional assessments?
Following a syllabus change in September 2013, the AAT identified that students who were already part way through a level on the AQ10 syllabus may wish to transfer to the new AQ13
syllabus. However, if the AAT gave those students like-for-like exemptions, they will never be assessed on the additional topics introduced under the AQ13 syllabus. Therefore, Transitional
Assessments have been brought in by the AAT to ensure that students are assessed on those extra topics.
These Transitional Assessments will only be available to sit up to the 31st of December 2014. After this time any student who has not completed the necessary Transitional
Assessment would have to sit the full AQ13 unit and exam.
Which units are transitional assessments in place for?
There are 4 units affected:
If you have transferred to AQ13 part-way through your level and had passed the unit indicated above, you will be required to sit the Transitional Assessment. In addition, if you were a funded
student and did PEAF at level 2, then you will be required to sit the PETH Transitional Assessment at level 3.
What format is the transitional assessment in?
It is an invigilated exam, sat on a computer. Students complete the assessment and upload it on to LearnPlus for marking. The result will be reported approximately 2 weeks after the
assessment.
Where can I sit a transitional assessment?
If you are a Kaplan student, you can sit the transitional assessment at a Kaplan centre. Please contact your nearest Kaplan centre to arrange your assessment date and time.
If you are not a Kaplan student, you need to discuss this with the college where you studied.
What support does Kaplan give students preparing for the assessment?
For BCST, WKAF and PETH you will receive additional resources via MyKaplan to help you with your studies. This may include online videos and a mock assessment.
You can also speak to your Kaplan tutors. For ISYS, the Kaplan ICAS/ISYS team will support you with the changeover.
I studied with Kaplan and need some more advice; who can I contact?
For BCST, WKAF and PETH, please contact your Kaplan centre.
For ISYS, please email [email protected] or call 020 7520 1119.

Level 3 - SDST Course
The Kaplan Spreadsheet unit is delivered in parts:
1. You should begin by watching the online recorded lectures 6 weeks prior to attending your tuition - delivered by a specialist tutor - these lectures will build your basic spreadsheet skills.
2. You have the option to join a drop-in session to help you if you are struggling with the topics covered.
3. Your course will be completed by a one day (or two evening) classroom based session where you will have a chance to practise your skills.
Online recorded lectures
There are a total of 15 online sessions for you to watch under 9 headings, for your to watch at your own pace, giving you greater flexibility and time to study for this unit. Due to the delivery method you have
complete control over when you study - you can even replay the sessions as often as you wish. However, we recommend you start your online studies for this course six weeks prior to attending the
classroom (indicated by a K on the timetable).
You must have completed all online lectures, including the progress tests and training simulations at the end of each lecture, prior to attending the scheduled Classroom or Live Online session.
How to access your Online recorded lectures
The online sessions will be delivered by recorded webinar - therefore use of a computer with internet access and sound facility is necessary.
If you do not have access to a computer please contact your local Kaplan centre for advice.
Once you have enrolled onto the course you will be given access to the recorded webinars through your MyKaplan online account at: www.MyKaplan.co.uk
Your printed materials
Your PassPlus course material (text book and exam kit) will be available for you to collect from your local Kaplan centre. For Live Online students this will be posted to you.

Due to the delivery method you have complete flexibility of when to take part and the ability to replay the presentations as often as you wish.
Once you have booked the month you wish to study the ISYS unit you will be sent a link to an introductory recording that will describe how the recorded workshops will work.
Course material will be made available via a Dropbox account with the first recorded workshop and you are advised which material to print at the start of each of the 3 recorded workshops.
The AAT allow a maximum of six months to complete the ISYS unit, this is measured from the date your assessment is set up in your LearnPlus account following attendance at the second recorded
workshop.
Every student is allocated a specific tutor/marker to support them throughout the unit.
