At the heart of effective instruction is the ability of educators to
connect with students and to use these connections to inform
instruction. This interactive, one-day workshop will provide
participants with the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of
culturally responsive instruction, including: pertinent terms; tools for
examining cultural responsiveness at the personal, school, and district
levels; and critical self-reflection.
Participants will:
•Develop a working knowledge of culturally responsive
instruction—what it is and why it is important
• Reflect on culture and how it informs our perspective,
experience, and instruction
• Explore tools for analyzing cultural responsiveness at
multiple levels
• Develop an awareness of the barriers to culturally responsive
instruction and discuss ways to address these barriers
This workshop is designed as an introduction to culturally responsive
education for educators working with students and/or their families.
