VOLUNTEERS WANTED
Food Centre
The participants will be provided with 8 meals during their time in Strathmore.
We are looking for experienced volunteer kitchen staff
to help prepare delicious food for the participants.
The Food Centre will also require about 200 volunteers to greet and host the participants
as well as various Food Centre duties such as prepping and cleaning tables.
Ambassadors
As an Ambassador, you will be our “go-to” person for participants and guests. This includes
a variety of duties such as greeting participants and dignitaries, providing assistance at
Ceremonies, assisting in registration process, medal presentation and
distributing lunches to participants.
Billet Homes
Have an extra room at your house? What about opening up your home to participants
and their guests? Billet homes will be responsible for providing beds and showers.
All meals for participants and guests will be provided through the games. If you have a
spare room in your home and are willing to share, please let us know.
Bus Drivers
The participants will be provided with transportation between accommodations,
food centre, activities and evening entertainment. We need bus drivers!!
Service Groups
There is a need for volunteer groups for luggage handling,
facility set-up/take-down and food service clean-up.

Looking For Torch Relay Participants:
The ATCO Torch Relay is the Ceremonial Opening of the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games.
The Relay will start at Kinsmen Park and wind its way through Strathmore, concluding at the
Agriculture Grounds. It takes place on Thursday, July 16 starting at 10:30am. We are looking for
Local Residents of all ages to participate in this inspiring event. You can walk, run,
wheelchair etc. for a distance of approximately 500 metres. If interested in participating, please
submit the following:

Message from the Volunteer Director
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS – COME ONE, COME ALL – ASK YOUR NEIGHBOURS AND FRIENDS!
We are just less than four months from game time, now is the time to volunteer! We expect over 1200
participants to come to Strathmore to participate in the Games. We need approximately 700 volunteers.
From July 16 to July 19, the participants will be provided with accommodation, food and entertainment,
along with 15 activities that the participants will compete in. The activities are Athletics, Bocce, Contract
Bridge, Cribbage, Cycling, Floor Curling, Floor Shuffleboard, Golf, Horseshoes, Military Whist, Pickleball,
Pool 8-Ball, Slo-Pitch, Swimming and Tennis!
As you can see it will be a busy four days. Some people prefer to work alone and some wish to work in
groups, in the lime light or behind the scenes. We have a spot for all of you!
Volunteers will receive a stainless steel water bottle, grab bag, and one or two t-shirts depending on
volunteer hours. Your accreditation pass will get you free access to all the events and entertainment.
On Sunday July 19th, there will also be a free Volunteer Appreciation dinner at the Civic Centre with entertainment by “InKahoots”

Message from the Sustainability Director
The Sustainability Committee is a new committee to the Alberta 55 Plus Summer
Games. This committee is comprised of myself, Colin Huxted, Jamie Huxted,
Christine Huxted, Dennis Groenhof, Cathy Jones, Bruce Hempel, Keith Clayton and
Linda Nelson. We are eager to show that we can “positively affect our Games by
managing and reducing its environmental impact”.
1) Utilizing crushed glass (from recycled stockpile glass) for horseshoe pits
2) Reusable water bottles (providing participants and volunteers with stainless steel water bottles)
3) Recycle Bins (Acquiring 12 “triple chute” recycle bins for use during the Games)
4) Pedi-Cabs (Utilizing “people-powered” pedi-cabs for some transportation during the games)
5) Electric Vehicle (Demonstration at the Health and Wellness Fair, and Games transportation)
6) Water-Dispensing Station (To provide fresh, clean water for participants and volunteers)
7) Sustainability Committee (Future Sustainability Committee linked to the Town of Strathmore)
8) Greening the Games (Collecting and composting food and waste from the Games)
9) Recycle/Reduce/Re-use (Biodegradable glasses/utensils, reusable lunch & garbage bags, no-styrofoam)
10) Public Education (Focusing on an elementary school group for activities to raise awareness)
