SCHOOL INFORMATION
Parent Teacher Student Conferences
Initial Conferences where teachers, parents and students discuss the student’s start to the year, their general level of achievement
and learning needs will be held on Monday 23 rd & Tuesday 24th March (10 minutes duration each).
Teachers are preparing conference notes which will be provided on the night so information in them can be explained and
discussed; including standardised assessment results, teachers’ initial judgements of the children’s achievement in core areas,
and indications of key learning targets.
School will finish early at 2pm on both days and bus students will be supervised until 3pm. If your child travels on a bus but
you wish them to leave at 2pm please inform the class teacher.
Attending these conferences is a very important part of the parent/teacher team approach to your child’s learning. Your child
should also attend.

Conference bookings will close on Monday 23 March at midday. Should you not have the facility to book online, please get your
child to collect a booking form from the library for completion and return to the class teacher.
International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS): For many years we have offered students the ability to take
part in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools competitions (ICAS). These competitions allow children to
get an objective assessment of their level in particular subjects compared to others throughout Australasia, Asia and the Pacific.
Certificates and an analysis of results are given to all participants, with higher achievement recognised by certificates of credit,
distinction and higher distinction. If you have questions regarding these competitions, please contact your child’s classroom

Interschool Swimming Sports:
Well done to the 50 students selected for our interschool swimming team which competed against the best in the region at Nayland Pool last week.
Each event is 50m and students are put into four grades (a, b, c or d), based on their placing at our WIS swimming sports event. So with 8 lanes and
4 grades for each of the four strokes there are certainly a lot of swimmers involved. We had a fantastic morning with some great results and lots of
support, especially for the relays, where the Year 8 girls, dominant in the pool all day, shaved an incredible two seconds off the freestyle relay
record which has been held by girls prep since 1998. The girls also won their medley relay and the Year 8 boys took first spot in both the freestyle
and the medley relays.
Congratulations to Piper Riley who was the only individual swimmer to break a record at the event, taking out the Year 7 girls’ freestyle event in 32.34
to topple a record from 2009. The records feature names such as commonwealth games medallist Amaka Gessler, so a lofty achievement to be
among them.

PTG meeting will be in the staff room at 7.30pm, TONIGHT. All
parents/caregivers are welcome. We will be starting to organise our one
major fundraiser for the year (chocolate). PTG is not a major time
commitment as we only meet about once per term. We are looking for a
new treasurer if anyone is interested please contact me for details of what

Easter competition – win your own Easter egg: The school library is
running an “Easter Word Unscramble” competition. Call into the school
library to pick up an entry form. The winners will be announced on
Wednesday 1st April.

Summer Tournament: This will take place next Friday 27th March please return all money and permission forms to the slot in the library by
tomorrow. It is important to return the notice even if your child is NOT
attending as this means another student can take that place in the
tournament. We welcome family support at this event so feel free to come
along and watch.
Rugby: Kelly Sports will run a Rugby Camp programme in the school
holidays. The programme is open to all players from all clubs. Please get
a notice from the library to learn more.
Basketball: Don’t forget, Waimea Basketball Trials are this Sunday 22
March from 10am for boys and 11 am for girls at the Waimea College
Gym. All registration forms have now been passed to the club.
Hockey: Tasman Hockey Club - register now for the 2015 season.
Hockey for all ages and abilities, new and returning players. Email your

Volleyball: Any teams interested in playing in a Spikers volleyball
tournament on Sunday 29th March at Saxton Stadium, registration forms
are available from the school library. The start time is 9.30 and cost is $80
per team. Entry forms must be in to Tasman Volleyball by the 25th March.

Table Tennis for beginners: Coaching every Monday afternoon 3:30 – 5pm at Saxton
Stadium for students aged 8 years and over. Bats and balls provided, must have non

Bridge Valley Holiday Camps: Easter holidays. These holidays Bridge Valley Holiday
Camps is becoming Bridge Valley Army Camp. Join the Special Forces team as we rescue
Captain Courageous and first mate Garry. Events & Activities: Team wide Games, paintball
option, individual challenges, kayaking, rock climbing, go carts, quads, and heaps more.

Empire Dance Company: Nelson based dance company empowering young people of
today to reach their full potential. Empire Dance Company offers tuition to all ages in tap
jazz, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, musical theatre, stretch and conditioning and

Understanding Children's Emotions:
Free Seminar for parents, grandparents,
caregivers,teachers - basically anyone working with children. Thursday 26 th March at
10.30am. The Headingly Centre, Headingly Lane, Richmond. The seminar will include
emotions and attachment, emotions and the brain and ways to help children deal with
emotions. This will be presented by Sandy Hitchens (counsellor working with children, teens
