The ballistic nose-cap is filled with thermite (red). The upper (dark-blue) loading above the bursting charge(light-grey) is a mixture of Zirconia / Hafnia that enhances the pressure build-up by the bursting charge. The projectile has a base fuze DM-201 produced by Diehl, Germany. Most interesting feature of this projectile, is the small delay provided by the base fuze. The projectile penetrates a 5mm Dural plate (Aviation Aluminum) at 100m at a 82° angle, and explodes only after passing it completely. A similar round with a PD M505 fuze would explode on impact. Functioning of the base fuze DM-201 The fuze has 2 safety mechanisms: - The rotating safety (ball misaligned with striker in safe position) The ‘unwinding’ ribbon that blocks the firing pin when not unwind by the rotation of the projectile. © info and cutaway picture DJH
