Be a liaison between HHS and the community, correspond between clubs, be a liaison between students, faculty/staff, administration, and the community, other schools, and other assignments as delegated. To direct the scheduling of whom (Student Body Officers) will be attending what HHS activities during each week, and other assignments as delegated. The President is inherently in charge of all activities produced by the Student Government. Has final say on all decisions and projects. Spirit Service Secretary To be responsible for creating, organizing, and providing activities (ie., lunchtime activities, assemblies, stomps, etc.) that add to the Spirit of HHS, Keeping the Marquee current, upkeep of the Spirit Locker; Prepare “daily announcements”, awarding the “student spirit award” at each home varsity game. Be a member of the school spirit group, The HERD, and work with the advisor of that club and other projects as delegated. To put together meaningful, fun, and engaging service assignments that the SBO and class officers can participate in, (Monthly). Organize and schedule service assignments and activities during “Hearts of Gold”. Help class officers with assemblies as needed, and other assignments as delegated. To keep minutes at all meetings, prepare agenda for class,(Working in conjunction with SBO President, Advisor, and Admin.) To keep record of assignments given to specific SBO’s and to assist SBO President in scheduling SBO’s attendance to HHS activities, and other assignments as delegated. The Secretary serves as the treasurer for Student Government. The Secretary will complete Purchase Orders and collect receipts for reimbursements. The Secretary will also complete all Release Forms for the group. ​
Student Body Officer Application 1 Communication Call/Text SBO’s about meetings, work with SBO President in communicating between HHS and other schools. Communication Officer will manage the email, and announcements for daily overhead announcements. Communication will update the marquees and be a contact for other schools and adults trying to get in contact with the Student Government. Communication is in charge of Keys To Success and Student Recognition. Appointed Student Body Officers
Artist Technology Responsible for graphic projects such as designing, preparing, and producing a council shirt; designing, preparing, and producing posters, tickets for SBO sponsored dances and other events, and other projects as delegated. To assist preparing daily announcements for the Student Body,ensure that the announcements are played at the designated time on TV’s in commons, Assist with Technology during assemblies, activities, conferences. Prepare/ create programs on computers for voting at elections. Assist in editing/creating videos used in assemblies, daily announcements and other projects as delegated. There is no formula for an acceptable portfolio, however, the student should submit their best, most recent work that represents his personal interests and abilities. It should reflect the individual's unique background, experience, and abilities using technology, specifically video editing and production. Also, HHS and Jordan School District uses google apps exclusively in communicating and producing works. The position of SBO technology is an appointed position and will be chosen based on completing the portfolio process and interview. Student Body Officer Application 8 General Election Guidelines ***Only those who pass the Primary election process will need to do the following*** 1. Candidates will be allowed to set up a campaign booth in the HHS Commons starting on Tuesday morning, April 21st, before school. You will not be allowed to set up a booth or campaign during class time. 2. Locations for booths will be on a first come, first serve basis and must fit in the taped­off, designated 10’x10’ areas. Booths must be in good taste and conform to school standards. Final approval of booths is left to Mr. Hunt and/or the administration. 3. No banners or other campaign materials may be placed anywhere throughout the school, only in the commons. 4.
Candidates will be disqualified from the election if items are taped to painted surfaces anywhere in the building (including areas such as painted walls, lockers, Pillars, etc.) Candidates are responsible for ensuring that their posters/flyers are in approved areas only and that items are not taped to painted surfaces. 5.
The use of Duct Tape, of any kind, will disqualify the candidate from the election. Do NOT use Duct Tape in, on, or around the building. 6. Candidates may monitor their booth during lunches if they desire. Each candidate will be responsible for his/her booth remaining intact throughout the day. 7.

The Candidate is allowed to disseminate up to 5 T­shirts to be worn by the candidate and 4 of their supporters. The Candidate is allowed two (2) posters no larger than 5x5 in size to be displayed in the commons. 9. Candidates may distribute buttons, badges, headbands, candy, etc. from their booths within the guidelines described below (see number 10). ​
The use of Stickers may not be used.​

Due to vandalism, usage of stickers will result in disqualification of the candidate​

Candidates are allowed to move throughout the Commons and lunchroom campaigning and distributing campaign materials. However, no campaign materials may be distributed outside the Commons area and lunchroom. 10. Candidates are allowed to play music or show a video from their booths, but may not use the school’s sound system. Sound must not overwhelm other booths and candidates’ efforts. Any media used in booths must be school­appropriate. 11. A candidate must provide all equipment and supplies necessary to make their booths operational. This includes cords, tape, markers, staplers, etc. The SBOs will provide one table per candidate if a candidate requests it. 12. Voting will take place Tuesday and Wednesday April 21­22nd during both lunches. Following the second lunch, votes will be counted and the finalists will be announced after school on the 22nd. 13. Candidates and their supporters will be expected to clean the commons area while votes are being counted. 14. A limit of up to $40.00 will be enforced on ANY items handed out during primary campaigning (April 21st and 22nd). ​
Donations from family and friends may be used on the booth but not on handouts of any kind. ​
All handouts must be approved by Mr. Hunt along with their receipts before anything is handed out on April 21st. 15. Failure to comply to ANY of the above guidelines will result in the disqualification of the candidate from Student Government elections. By Signing this application you agree to comply to ALL guidelines in this packet pertaining to the elections and you also signify that you are aware of the consequences if guidelines are not followed. ​
Student Body Officer Application 9 Herriman High School Student Government Code of Conduct Herriman High School has established guidelines and rules which all students attending our school are required to meet. The same is true for any student participating in any student government program while attending Herriman High. All participating students and their parents should read through and be familiar of the items covered in the Code of Conduct. All students who participate in student government are required to abide by the following policies. ​
Failure to do so will result in immediate removal from office. Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drugs Utah law states that it is illegal for students to have alcohol, drugs, and/or tobacco in his/her possession. Students serving in student government positions should not be in possession or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco. All district policies regarding tobacco, alcohol, and drugs are also applicable to any student government officer. This includes knowingly being around other students/minors in possession of or using these substances. Gambling Gambling in any form is prohibited on the school grounds or within the building; student government officers should not have any participation in any type of gambling activity. Fighting Fighting will not be tolerated on or near school premises or at any time when representing Herriman High School. Participants may be suspended from school, pending administrative decisions and a parent conference. Theft Respect for personal property is essential and any officer who intentionally removes another individual’s personal property will be asked to resign from office. Criminal charges and additional violations of district policy may also be included, based on the student’s situation. Vandalism As a participant in student government, you must help protect school property by refraining from all acts of vandalism and by discouraging or reporting any such activities by others. Students and parents will be held liable to cover the cost of damage done to school property, or any other locations of student government conferences and events. Articles Prohibited Items that are hazards to the safety of others or interfere in some way with the business of school are prohibited. Toy guns, water pistols, slingshots, knives, hard balls, and any other similar paraphernalia will be confiscated. Items such as Frisbees, tennis balls, nerf balls, or any other similar sports equipment are not to be used within the student government room or the school. Possession of any weapons, facsimile or real, will also have consequences from the District’s policy regarding these objects at school. ​
Student Body Officer Application 10 Lewd/Inappropriate Behavior Any behavior deemed to be lewd, inappropriate, or critical of the school, administrators, faculty, staff, or students will result in dismissal from office, including, but not limited to, social media websites (ie. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat, etc.)​
In addition, if you become pregnant, or otherwise involved in a pregnancy, you will be dismissed from office. Building Behavior/Use of the Student Government Room The student government room is a business office where those involved in student government activities can meet, plan, organize, use the telephone and computer, prepare, etc. It is NOT a place to sluff, hang out with friends, or participate in athletic activities or horsing around. Those using the student government room should be considerate of the teachers and classes around them, and refrain from boisterous activity, playing of loud music, or any other activity that might disturb others during class time. ​
Students should have pride in this room and keep it clean at all times. Dress and Grooming Student government participants will follow the dress and grooming guidelines specified by the dress code of Jordan School District. Attendance Students are expected to be in attendance in class unless officially excused by an advisor or administrator prior to missing class. All tardies must be excused and no truancies are to be listed on the student’s attendance record in accordance with the Herriman High School attendance policy. Academics All student government officers are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA. Officers must not have received any F, NG (no­grade), or I (incomplete) grades once elected to office. Any officer not in compliance with academic requirements will be immediately placed on probation. Student government officers are to be an example to all of their peers. If a student officer is suspended from school for violation of any school or district policy, or for any item listed in the Code of Conduct, s/he will be removed from office. ​
Student Body Officer Application 11 Class Officer Application Agreement and Declaration of Candidacy I ______________________ declare myself as a candidate for Sophomore Class Officer at Herriman High School for the 2015­2016 school year. I am aware of the responsibilities which I will have as a Class Officer at Herriman High School (HHS). I realize that there are time commitments that must be made in order for me to be a successful officer. I am aware that, as a Class Officer I serve as an example to the other members of my school and, therefore, will conduct myself as an example of integrity, honesty and high moral character. I understand that, due to the expectations of my advisors / administration and the demands of a growing Student Government program AND​
a growing Student Body population, I will not be participating in extracurricular activities such as athletics, band, drama, cheer, or drill, (ie., Performing Groups) without first consulting with the Student Government advisors and Assistant Principal over Student Government. I understand that before participating in extracurricular programs or activities that may conflict with student government programs or activities that there will be a plan in place, agreed upon by the student, parents, coaches and/or Instructors, Student Government Advisors, and Administration, that will outline how the demands of both programs will be met by the student.
