A God I Don’t Need To Understand
Newly sober, it seemed that AA members solved their
drinking problem by using God, but I knew little about the
substance of whatever that was, save many drunken bar
room “religious” conversations; the TV preachers left me
even more bewildered. Perhaps I fell into the category of an
agnostic—that is to say without knowledge of God. So what to
do? My case was different!
Yet, the Big Book told me: “Our human resources, as marshalled
by the will, were not sufficient; they failed utterly." I certainly
related to page 44 of the Big Book: "If, when you honestly want to,
you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking, you have little
control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic." Yes,
that was me—never a drinking year passed but what I had quit
drinking forever, only to wake up with a two-inch thick tongue,
mouth on fire and my foggy head swearing never again! Quitting
drinking did not work for me! Again, what to do?
Central Office will be
CLOSED Monday March 30th
Clear Ideas
Our description of the alcoholic, the chapter to the
agnostic, and our personal adventures before and
after make clear three pertinent ideas:
(a) That we were alcoholic and could not manage our
own lives.
(b) That probably no human power could have
relieved our alcoholism.
(c) That God could and would if He were sought.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 60
CCFAA
I still have no intellectual understanding of God, nor do I need
one, because the AA program has allowed me to feel its waxing
and waning in an inexplicable, yet mysteriously intuitive manner. I
believe this is what the Big Book implies by the phrase: “Great
Reality deep within.” I have not had to drink since those early
days. Thank God for the slogan: “Stick around until the miracle
happens. Dr. Bob tells us: “Your Heavenly Father will never let you
down!”

Happily, the Big Book explained that when those alkies before
me were even willing to believe in a greater power—whatever
that may be—they got results! (p. 46). So, I simply exclaimed: I
believe! I believe! . . . and started praying to whatever mystery
God was. I thanked Him many times every day that hadn’t drank.
This contact, meager as it was, gave me sufficient confidence that
AA was going to work for me—indeed it did! About a year later I
had a release, of sorts, and began to realize that I was no longer
plagued by that miserable “drinking thinking” that had been my
unwelcome companion for over twenty drunken years—it has
never returned!

So our troubles, we think, are basically of our own
making. They arise out of ourselves,
and the alcoholic is an extreme example of self-will
run riot, though he usually doesn't think so.
Above everything, we alcoholics must be rid of this
selfishness. We must, or it kills us!
God makes that possible.

A.A. Teleservice Needs YOU!!
Alcoholics Anonymous Teleservice, also known as the A.A. hotline, services alcoholics who are in need of help. We help them to locate
meetings in their area or provide them with someone to talk to in times
of crisis.
“I can’t explain why I didn’t hang up. I just
sat there on the floor, with the receiver to
my ear. The next thing I heard was “Good
afternoon. Alcoholics Anonymous. May we
help you?”
“Came to Believe” PG 23
This is a great way to be of service to your fellow alcoholics.
All you need is the use of a phone and a current meeting schedule. From
the comfort of your own home on a landline telephone or even while
you’re out and about with the use of a cell phone you can be of service.
We would love to have you join our team. If you have at least six
(6) months of sobriety and would like to be of service please contact

Bill W. wrote this of AA Intergroup Offices, “...these agencies are
absolutely essential to our continued expansion - to our survival as a
Fellowship. Their costs are a collective obligation that rests squarely
upon all of us. Our support of services actually amounts to a recognition
on our part that A.A. must everywhere function in full strength - and that,
under our Tradition of self-support, we are all going to foot the bill.”

Corrections Correspondence Service
A Service of G.S.O.(C.C.S. )Needs our Help!
As many of you know, we offer a Corrections
Correspondence service for individuals
incarcerated for at least six more months who are
interested in writing to an outside A.A. member to
share experience as it relates to problems with
alcohol. This is a random match with men writing
to men and women writing to women. We are
looking for male volunteers to receive and respond
to inmate letters; our pool of outside female writers
is currently full, but we have a sizable writing list
of male inmates who are seeking an outside
correspondent. Interested participants can read
more about this vital service and fill out our C.C.S.
form, found here: http://www.aa.org/assets/en_US/f26correctcorrespondence.pdf They can return the

“Made a decision to turn our will over to the care of God as we
understood him.”
We found it very desirable to take this spiritual step with an
understanding person, such as our wife, best friend, or spiritual adviser.
But it is better to meet God alone than with one who might misunderstand.

The Third Concept
“To insure effective leadership, we should endow each element of A.A. -- the
Conference, the General Service Board and its service corporations, Staffs,
committees, and executives -- with a traditional “Right of Decision.”
Bill warns against using the “the Right of Decision” as an excuse for failure to make
the proper reports of actions taken; or for exceeding a clearly defined authority; or
for failing to consult the proper people before making an important decision. But he
concludes: “Our entire A.A. program rests squarely Upon the principle of mutual
trust. We trust God, we trust A.A., and we trust each other.”

WILL
A Spiritual Experience
As I work the Steps in everything I do, practicing
these principles in all my affairs, now I find that I
am awake to God, to others, and to myself.
The spiritual awakening I have enjoyed as the
result of working the Steps is the awareness that I
am no longer alone.

On January 27, 2015 we had an unscheduled compliance review from the Board of Equalization under the statewide Compliance and
Outreach Program. It was found that we have all of the required state tax and fee permits and licenses; that our records are up to
date and correct and that we are aware of our reporting responsibilities. Yay!
8.
4th Quarter 2014 inventory took place on January 24th. Adjustments were within acceptable limits.

E. Treasurer’s Report – Tom W
Explained the printed Income/Expense Report for those new to the Delegates Meeting. In general all the numbers are positive: group contributions, Faithful Fivers, literature and medallion sales are already ahead of the budgeted figures. Remember that the pro-rated budget column is
one-twelfth of the total budgeted amount and some groups make contributions after the end of the year so January figures are frequently higher. One expense to note is that our NCCAA liaison was unaware that we had monies budgeted for his use at conferences, so he presented two
years of expenses for past conferences. In all, we are off to a great start for 2015.
F. Special Needs Chairperson’s Report – Matt C
There were two calls this month:
1.
A hearing impaired/ASL request. The requestor did not respond to two follow up calls but I have received information form the CNIA
(Area 07) special needs committee to coordinate with future calls of this nature.
2.
Outreach for a man who was homebound after being released from the hospital for heart surgery. Took a meeting out to this house.

We had our first Web/Tech Committee Meeting Saturday 02/14/15.
In attendance: John C. (Chair) Katya (Co-Chair), and Rae W. Not present: Liz, Karina, Kevin
First order of business was to more appropriately call the committee "Web/Tech Committee" to encompass all technologies for Central
Office but with an emphasis on Web presence for CCFAA.
Web site and hosting password changes have been completed and properly stored by Central Office Mgr.
We are going to work on the building the meeting list and office operations database simultaneously so that information entered in
one place updates throughout. This will eliminate many repetitive tasks for CO staff.
We will be adding existing data into our new database as soon as John finishes working on a form to simplify the input to allow more
people to help with data entry.
We have a working prototype of the next iteration of the online Meeting list. There is very little data in it as of yet. It is for testing and
proof of concept only.
Most future meetings of the Web/Tech Committee will likely take place virtually to make it easier for people to attend because everyone involved will need to have some knowledge of internet and web.

VI. Old Business
A. Discussion of 2015 Budget Amendment Proposal
We discussed the budget amendment to increase the manager’s salary line item by $5,000. The manager has done an exemplary job with cutting
costs and maintaining services. She has not had a salary increase since 2012. In the last few years the CCF has not been financially able to offer
a raise. While we don’t have a recent salary comparison, she still does not make the comparable salary from the 2008 survey. When the budget
was first worked up in September 2014 we didn’t foresee having the inflow of cash that occurred, thus allowing us to offer an increase. The Office Operations Committee fully supports this increase.
VII. New Business

Sixteen Relapse Symptoms to
Watch Out For:
1. Exhaustion - Allowing oneself to become overly
tired; usually associated with work addiction as an
excuse for not facing personal frustrations.
2. Dishonesty - Begins with pattern of little lies;
escalated to self-delusion and making excuses for not
doing what's called for.
3. Impatience - I want what I want NOW. Others
aren't doing what I think they should or living the way
I know is right.
4. Argumentative - No point is too small or insignificant not to be debated to the point of anger and
submission.
5. Depression - All unreasonable, unaccountable
despair should be exposed and discussed, not repressed: what is the "exact nature" of those feelings?
6. Frustration - Controlled anger/resentment when
things don't go according to our plans. Lack of acceptance. See #3.
7. Self-pity - Feeling victimized, put-upon, used,
unappreciated: convinced we are being singled out for
bad luck.
8. Cockiness - Got it made. Know all there is to
know. Can go anywhere, including frequent visits just
to hang-out at bars, boozy parties.
9. Complacency - Like #8, no longer sees value of
daily program, meetings, contact with other alcoholics, (especially sponsor!), feels healthy, on top of the
world, things are going well. Heck may even be
cured!
10. Expecting too much of others - Why can't
they read my mind? I've changed, what's holding them
up? If they just do what I know is best for them? Leads
to feeling misunderstood, unappreciated. See #6.
11. Letting up on disciplines - Allowing established habits of recovery - meditations, prayer, spiritual reading, AA contact, daily inventory, meetings - to slip out of our routines; allowing recovery to get
boring and no longer stimulating for growth. Why
bother?!
12. Using mood-altering chemicals - May have a
valid medical reason, but misused to help avoid the
real problems of impending alcoholic relapse.
13. Wanting too much - Setting unrealistic goals:
not providing for short-term successes; placing too
much value on material success, not enough on value
of spiritual growth.
14. Forgetting gratitude - Because of several listed
above, may lose sight of the abundant blessings in our
everyday lives: too focused on # 13.
15. "It can't happen to me." - Feeling immune;
forgetting what we know about the disease of alcoholism and its progressive nature.
16. Omnipotence - A combination of several attitudes listed above; leads to ignoring danger signs,
disregarding warnings and advice from fellow members.

CONCEPT III
As a traditional means of creating and maintaining a clearly defined working
relation between the groups, the Conference, the AA General Service Board and
its several service organizations, staff, committees and executives, and of thus
insuring their effective leadership, it is here suggested that we endow each of
these elements of world service with a traditional “Right of Decision.”
As background for this Concept, you should be familiar with the Conference
Charter and the Bylaws of the General Service Board, both of which are found
in The AA Service Manual. For, except for the specific directions in these documents, every trusted servant and every AA entity – at all levels of service – has
the right “to decide…how they will interpret and apply their own authority
and responsibility to each particular problem or situation as it arises.” That is,
they can “decide which problems they will dispose of themselves and upon
which matters they will report, consult, or ask specific directions.” This is the
essence of “The Right of Decision.”
But this right also means the Fellowship must have trust in its “trusted
servants.” If the groups instruct their
G.S.R.s rather than giving them a
“Right of Decision,” then the area
conference is hamstrung. If the
G.S.R.s instruct the area delegates
rather than giving them a “Right of
Decision,” then the General Service
Conference is hamstrung. As Bill
points out, “our Conference delegates are primarily the servants of
A.A. as they should … cast their
votes … according to the best dictates of their own judgment and conscience
at that time.”
Similarly, if the General Service Board, acting through its subsidiary boards,
“were to attempt to manage” the General Service Office and the A.A. Grapevine “in detail, then … the staff members … would quickly become demoralized; they would be turned into buck-passers and rubber stamps; their choice
would be to rebel and resign, or to submit and rot.”
Bill warns against using “The Right of Decision” as an excuse for failure to
make the proper reports of actions taken or for exceeding a clearly defined
authority, or for failing to consult the proper people before making an important decision. But he concludes:
“Our entire AA program rests squarely upon the principle of mutual trust.
We trust God, we trust AA, and we trust each other.”

Just for laughs…
The car sped off the highway, went through the
guard rail, rolled down a cliff, bounced off a tree
and finally shuddered to a stop. A passing motorist, who had witnessed the entire accident, helped
the miraculously unharmed driver out of the wreck.
"Good lord, mister," he gasped, "Are you drunk?"
"Of course," said the man, brushing the dirt from
his suit. "What the hell do you think I am ... a
stunt driver?"
