26th CONSERVATION DINNER April 16, 2015 A community event of Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation and the Exeter Lions Club Program Sponsored and Printed by Track 21 Graphix 26th Conservation Dinner WELCOME W hat do Conservationists, Service Clubs, Volunteers and people in search of fun have in common? That’s right, the Conservation Dinner! Instead of focusing on their individual agendas, the collaborative partnership between the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation, Community Volunteers and the Exeter Lions Club pooled their resources, planned and present to you tonight, the 26th Gala Dinner and Auction. This Conservation Dinner is the 25th charitable event co-hosted by the Exeter Lions Club and is indeed an historic milestone. Welcome to our community event for this year. The annual event has raised awareness for conservation, a desire to beautify our community, and funds in order to further these worthy goals. Welcome to our artists, donors, sponsors and yourselves. This year’s event will be a first, featuring a life experience with Culinary Artist, Chef James Eddington. What a fantastic offering! There will be many new and exciting items appealing to a variety of senses. Bid high and bid often as they say. Thank you to the committee members who worked diligently to bring this historic gala charitable event to you. Paul Anstett Conservation Dinner Chair James Eddington 2015 Conservation Dinner Feature Artist The Conservation Dinner Committee is honoured to have Chef James Eddington as our first ‘Culinary’ Feature Artist. James has more than 15 years in the hospitality business in Huron County with a wonderful restaurant, Eddington’s of Exeter Casual Fine Dining, located in a beautiful heritage building on Exeter’s Main Street. He believes the culinary arts involve creating something unique and beautiful - appealing to all your senses and something that is completely edible. The local food movement has always been a driving force in the Eddington’s of Exeter kitchen. Chef James says, “Each season inspires the delicacies our region has to offer and we are blessed to be living in such an agriculturally rich area of the world.” Feature Watershed Culinary Art Experience Chef James will be preparing a Watershed Culinary Experience for up to eight people. The winning bidder and their guests will join him, on a mutually agreed upon date, for a short tour of the region’s farm-gate producers and farmers to forage the evening’s ingredients which will be provided. The Chef will then prepare a sunset dinner at the lakefront home of regional farmers Fred and Shelley Van Osch. An ultimate culinary experience. April 16, 2015 10 Conservation Is Our Future Exeter Lions Club he Exeter Lions Club is a member of the world’s largest and most active service organization. Whenever a Lions Club gets together, problems get smaller and communities get better. That’s because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy. The Exeter Lions Club has been active since 1937 when it was chartered. The Exeter Lions Club is pleased to partner with the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation to present this excellent dinner and auction. This is the 25th year that the Club has co-hosted this charitable event which is indeed an historic milestone. The proceeds from this event are used for continuing maintenance and development of the MacNaughton Morrison Trail which celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2014. The Exeter Lions Club and Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation contribute financially to stocking the Morrison Reservoir with rainbow trout for the annual Fishing Derby held on the first Saturday of May for anglers young and young at heart. The Exeter Lions Club thanks everyone for your continuing contributions and support. T Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation he Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation (ABCF) was established in 1974 as a charity whose purpose is to raise funds for conservation, preservation and protection of the unique natural landscapes of the Ausable River, Bayfield River and Parkhill Creek watersheds. The ABCF raises money through direct donations and special events such as the Friends of South Huron Trail Golf Tournament and the Conservation Dinner which is jointly sponsored with the Exeter Lions Club. As a registered charity, the ABCF offers charitable gift receipts for donors supporting our worthwhile causes. The ABCF supports numerous accessible nature trails, fishing docks and lookout platforms at conservation areas in the watershed area. These include the Rock Glen Conservation Area at Arkona, Linfield Wildlife Area, Bannockburn Conservation Area near Varna and the Morrison Dam Conservation Area outside Exeter. The new Woodland Reflection Shelter at Morrison Dam Commemorative Woods was officially opened in September 2012 and is proving to be a much appreciated addition for visitors or walkers along the South HuronTrail. In 2011 the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation established the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy and a nine-member volunteer Board of Directors was appointed. The geographic limits of this new land trust mirror the historic Huron Tract boundaries. Land trusts are charitable organizations that accept donations and bequests of land and conservation agreements. The Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy gives individuals and families in the Huron Tract area a way to make a positive difference by helping protect and restore land, water and nature. The Foundation continues to support nature education programs held at schools and conservation areas. The $1,000 Student Environmental Award and hiring of a Junior Conservationist to work with ABCA staff, provides high school students and graduates assistance with their environmental studies and experience in the field. Persons interested in sharing the vision of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation can donate to any of these projects by contacting Judith Parker at 519-235-2610 or 1-888-286-2610 for further information.
