ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY IN PRACTICE 2015 Summer Online Course Offering at UW-Madison 5 Week Course: May 26 – June 28, 2015 History of environmental adaptation and technology application Influence of the environment on participation in daily life activities Supports and barriers to assistive technology use Compensatory strategies used by persons with functional limitations Principles of assessment for assistive technology Accessible design, universal design and human factors engineering Current technologies for seating & positioning, information management, environmental control, communication and school, home and community participation Designed for practitioners or graduate students in the fields of Occupational Therapy, Communicative Disorders, Engineering, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Psychology & Special Education and related fields. In this course, students will apply assistive technology to practice. Content is delivered through an online module permitting access to course material on demand. Participants will gain practical experience in applying devices and environmental modifications to specific case studies. Learning experiences can be applied or made relevant to the student’s particular practice setting or area of interest. The course includes interactive online learning experiences, discussions, brief assignments and quizzes.
