Democratic Republic of Congo and 2014 Sakharov Prize Laureate. Operating amid armed
conflict, Panzi Hospital is revered worldwide for its innovative and holistic treatment of
women—including many survivors of sexual violence. Dr. Mukwege is a world-renowned
specialist in repairing internal injuries caused by rape.
