(Self) Co-sponsored and promoted the BID application, educated voters, presented to the City of Denver. Popular vote passed and BID placed into operation January 1st 2015. I serve as advisory member on the Board of Directors. 2014: Hoyte 16, Lakewood, Colorado. (Hangar 41) 4 story multifamily residential over structured parking. 65 unit mix of studio, 1 and two bedroom apartments with minimal amenities. My role was to assist the lead Principals on the project with design input and production. Project is due to break ground summer 2015. Ogden Townhomes, Englewood, Colorado. (Hangar 41) Five four story attached townhomes on a tight site. My role as Principal and project manager was to carry the project through Design Development and Construction Documents while managing consultants and client coordination. Project is due to break ground spring 2015 Northgate Office Suites, Phase 1, Laramie, Wyoming. (Hangar 41) 6,000 SF remodel and conversion of an existing 1950's Laundry facility into Contemporary office suites. I am the Principal in charge, senior project designer and the project manager on this $600,000 adaptive reuse project. Expected C.O. June 2015. Sweet Water County Fire District 1, Station #2. Rock Springs, Wyoming. (Hangar 41) Startup for a previously designed project that had been on hold for a year during fundraising, current work includes final review and coordination of CD's, re-negotiation of fees and preparation for contractor bidding and negotiation. The project has been funded and is slated to break ground by late spring 2015. 2013: Staub Residence, Golden, Colorado. (Self) Innovative renovation and addition to a 1,800 SF 1950's brick ranch and adjacent barn creating a modern and functional space for a six person family to grow in comfort. Completion summer 2014. eVolo Skyscraper competition. (Hangar 41) We re-purposed our Yantai project and entered in to the prestigious international eVolo competition. We did not win but may be published in the annual competition publication. Opened a satellite Hangar 41 office, Laramie, Wyoming. (Hangar 41) After receiving several commissions for projects in Wyoming we made a strategic move to capture an underserved area with the express goal of tapping into the current growth trend in Wyoming due to the expansion of natural resource farming and the related development and growth of the areas supporting the mining industry. Co-principal in charge of office and marketing for the Wyoming market. Involves regular trips for marketing purposes, client servicing and consultant meetings. Laundry Land remodel and addition, Laramie, Wyoming. (Hangar 41) Conceptual design, planning and zoning review and presentation for a phased medical and professional office building. I served as principal in charge, senior project designer and the project manager. Chroma, Denver, Colorado. (Hangar 41) Worked with a remote developer to generate conceptual design for a 65 unit, mixed use, low income housing project located on a vacant lot in the center of Denver's Art District on Santa Fe. We have not given up on this site however and continue to court potential developers with the hopes of reviving the project. Spine injury and Sports Clinic, Laramie, Wyoming, (Hangar 41) 18,000 SF mixed use medical office building. This building will contain sports related medical providers, physical therapy and sports performance spaces as well as a cafe and meeting rooms on a difficult site close to the university campus. The facility eventually expects to serve high school, college and professional athletes from Wyoming and the surrounding states. The planning stage is complete including the negotiation and securing of a difficult variance due to the tight aquifer restraints on site. The project will be moving into the schematic design phase summer of 2014. I served as principal in charge, senior project designer and the project manager. 2012: Sweet Water County Fire District 1, Station #2. Rock Springs, Wyoming. (Hangar 41) Full service contract for a 14,000 SF, $5 million fire station and regional training center. I have served as Principal in charge and Senior Project Designer, managing the Hangar 41 team, client and consultant relationships and presentations from in depth programming through Construction Documentation. Slated for construction in spring 2015. Villa TOD, Denver, Colorado. (Hangar 41) Multiple conceptual designs for a 1930's mixed use brick building in Denver's Art District on Santa Fe. This poorly kept building consists of four retail spaces, thirteen one and two bedroom apartments and a large bow string trussed warehouse being used as an illegal body shop. NEWSED CDC and the Urban Land Conservancy charged us with re-imagining and updating this prominent corner structure in an upcoming urban neighborhood. I served as Principal in charge and Senior Project Designer, managing the Hangar 41 team, client and consultant relationships and presentations through the schematic design phase - the project is currently awaiting funding. Zhongyou Shanghai, Shanghai, China. (Hangar 41 - Invited Competition) Zhongyou is a proposed mixed use complex located just south of Shanghai’s Pudong district. Containing a large program on a fairly restricted site the complex includes a 23 story five-star hotel, 3 story conference center, 6 story commercial office building, 3 levels of open high end retail and a super market adjacent to an historic canal This was a joint effort between Hangar 41, LLC, and LLG International, the later providing the landscape architecture. I served as principal in charge and senior designer leading the Hangar 41 and LLG teams through research and conceptual design. Design and modeling was completed in Denver with renderings and the final presentation completed in China with our guidance. City of Westminster Recycling and Education Center, Westminster, Colorado (Hangar. 41) A net zero facility built with 100% recycled materials that would set the standard for recycling and education centers across the country, introducing sustainable and green living concepts to the general public. I was the principal in charge and lead designer for this project which included helping the City of Westminster to decide what this project could be. The project is on hold while several local infrastructure projects are completed. 2011: Art District On Santa Fe Vision Plan. Denver Colorado (Hangar 41) District wide analysis and researched master plan culminating in a 100 page document and a catered presentation to the Mayor, planning, public works, community leaders, local developers and media outlets. I served as Principal in charge, senior designer, community and city liaison and event planner leading and mentoring a team of 3-6 interns with no prior planning experience. The Zone, Denver, Colorado. (Hangar 41) Pro bono work for NEWSED CDC, a non profit community development group to help create a business incubator for low income business entrepreneurs by assisting with design and documentation for permitting. My role was Principal in charge and senior designer working directly with the client, City, GC and subcontractors. Denver's Art District On Santa Fe, Denver, Colorado. (Self) I am a founding member of this non-profit group made up of local stakeholders and government officials created to raise significant funds to help implement the Hangar 41 vision plan, advocate for infrastructure improvement and general advocacy for change and governmental support. Our first projects included pressing for an amendment to the neighborhood plan to include our vision plan and setting up a Business Improvement District, both of which are under way. Saint Anthony's redevelopment, Denver, Colorado. (Hangar 41) In house master plan exercise to re-imagine what the important abandoned hospital site could be. Our concept included mixed income, mixed use complexes of mid rise skyscrapers and horizontal ground scrapers intertwined with parks and public access spaces with effort put towards views of the mountains, down town and Sloan's Lake, all while connecting to the existing fabric and providing much needed amenities to the area, such as entertainment options, retail and an organic supermarket. My role was Principal in charge and Senior Designer for this marketing effort. Chongqing Two Rivers mixed use towers, Chongqing, China. (Hangar 41) I was asked to participate in an invited competition as one of four international teams to design a mixed use project on a site sitting high above the banks of the Jialing River with beautiful views of the urban metropolis, the river and the mountains. The 124,000 square meter 200 story mixed use towers were to be composed of retail, hotel, office and residential uses. Our team made it through the research and concept design phases before the competition was ended by the client - no team was awarded the commission! I was the Principal in charge and senior designer leading the Hangar 41 team in collaboration with our Chinese partners. Teton County Fire Station Upgrade and Improvement Project, Teton County, Wyoming. (Hangar 41) I was involved in the evaluation of 5 stations from rural locations to down town Jackson Hole, and served as the Senior Project Designer for two of the stations that we took through concept design only. Unfortunately the Bond failed and the projects were halted. iSushi Restaurant, Denver, Colorado. (Hangar 41) Principal in charge and Senior Designer for a low budget and small restaurant re-model in Denver's Santa Fe Art District. This project was complicated by the outdated systems in place and the poorly maintained structure. We oversaw a complete remodel to bring the building up to current code and produced new designs for the front and back of house. The food is great, but the design was let down by the competency of the GC and the lack of CA. 2010: Started Hangar 41, LLC. November, with founding member Buddy Poppitt, Denver Colorado After being laid-off twice during the economic downturn I decided to take matters into my own hands and started my own design firm with a brilliant staff of talented like minded unemployed architects and designers. 6 Degree House, Arvada, Colorado. (Self) Very Contemporary and unique 2,500 SF sustainable home originally designed to be built in prefabricated sections and delivered to the site. 2009: Burj District Luxury Condo Tower, Dubai, U.A.E. (Burkett Design) Senior designer for concept design and design development of this mixed use, 32 storey tower. (Burkett Design) 1800 Glenarm is an existing and unique, fourteen story, triangular, 1980’s building in dire need of a retrofit. The new design redefines the buildings image at both the pedestrian level and urban scale with an updated envelope, building cap, entry elements and new building lobby. Exterior design was butchered during construction due to the economic downturn. My responsibilities were senior designer through design development. DU Lux, Denver, Colorado. (Burkett Design) Senior designer through concept design of a 15 storey mixed use residential building primarily for students from the University of Denver. A later iteration also added an attached 22 storey office tower to the complex. Holland & Hart, Denver, Colorado. (Burkett Design) Senior designer through design development phase for a high end commercial office interior for the Law Offices of Holland & Hart at 555 17th Street. HRO Denver, Colorado. (Burkett Design) Holme Roberts & Owen LLP (HRO) is an international law firm with approximately 230 lawyers. I was a designer for the concept design of their new high end multi storey law office at 1700 Lincoln Street. Gambro International, Denver Colorado. (Burkett Design) Gambro is a global medical technology company and a leader in developing, manufacturing and supplying products and therapies for Kidney and Liver dialysis. I was the senior designer for the 57 acre conceptual master plan for a new US headquarters bringing together scattered research and development, office and manufacturing functions to one central campus fulfilling a proposed 15 year growth cycle. Intrepid Potash, Denver Colorado. (Burkett Design) New headquarters commercial interiors for intrepid potash located on the top two floors of 707 17th st. I was a design team member. 2007: Crabtree residence, Denver, Colorado. (Self) 5,000 SF modern interior remodel Moholy Master plan, Chandigarh, India. (RNL Design) Master plan for a sustainable technology “new town” just west of Corbusiers’ City of Chandigarh. The design was based around access to green spaces and fresh air with the majority of the urban massing to the North West in order to block winter winds and provide southerly exposure for summer breezes and solar access. Responsibilities included research, concept design and modeling as a schematic design team member. Also senior designer for a dynamic schematic massing study for a large conference/entertainment multiplex including conference, performance, entertainment, and retail functions adjacent to a mid rise hotel. Boulder Jewish Community Center, Boulder, Colorado. (RNL Design) Conceptual design including pre school, athletic facilities, theater, library, office space, adult classrooms, a large multi-purpose space etc. The project is currently on hold for fund raising. Responsibilities included research, master planning, phasing, conceptual design, modeling and generation of presentation materials. Victor Valley Transit Authority, Victorville, California. (RNL) $42 million transportation maintenance facility. Responsibilities included lead design role and team leader including client and consultant contact and presentations; from schematic design through construction documents including the assembly of bridging documents of sufficient quality so as to maintain design integrity through the next phase of the project with the winning design/build team. The project was designed to be LEED Gold and was completed fall of 2013. South Bend Transpo, South Bend, Indiana. (RNL Design - competition win) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 $19 million (budget increased) transportation maintenance facility. Responsibilities included lead design role and team leader including client and consultant contact and presentations; full time through schematic design, with a mentor/crit role through design development and construction documentation. Project was designed to be LEED Platinum and was the Revit initiation project for RNL. The project was completed in 2010. Al Ghadeer Master Plan, Abu Dhabi, UAE. (RNL) Phase 1 of a regional master plan, Al Ghadeer is a sustainable lifestyle district for 28,000 mostly ex-pat. British, Australian and Indian citizens (among others). Responsibility included research, generation of the Urban Design Concept and Design Guidelines for the district, and design while guiding a team of urban designers, landscape architects and architects in the implementation of these ideas into the master plan. I also led the effort to produce the presentation materials that were needed to portray the main concepts to the client; Sorouh Abu Dhabi. 2006: Palms Tanning Resort #3, Aurora, Colorado. (ARAA) 2,900 SF Tennant Finish. Highly custom and award winning tanning resort. See palms #1 for responsibilities. ClearView Baptist Church, Franklin, Tennessee. (RNL Design) 118,000 SF addition (including a 450 seat chapel and 1800 seat auditorium) and 34,000 SF remodel to an existing building. Responsibilities included lead design role including master planning, client and consultant contact, and presentations through schematic design. Project was designed to be sustainable. Shams Central Park, Abu Dhabi, UAE. (RNL Design – invited competition, 2nd place) Competition design for a focal point to the Shams, Abu Dhabi master plan (RNL) open space systems. The mixed use development includes parks lagoons and canals, fountains, pools, gardens, open play space, an amphitheater, a restaurant and a contemporary mosque; all above 4,500 subterranean parking spaces. Responsibilities included design team member for the park and co-designer of the mosque. Union Park Master Plan, Las Vegas, Nevada. (RNL Design) Large master planned, mixed use community on the old Union rail yards just north of downtown Las Vegas containing 3,189 residential units in ten high rise buildings, 16,000 parking spaces (with amenity spaces on top), 1.8 million SF of office space, 1,750 hotel rooms (plus casino and entertainment spaces), and 360,000 SF of ground floor retail with two storey condominiums above. The plan also incorporated a new Central Park for down town and a performing arts venue. Responsibilities included leading a team of five in design development which included research, concept mass design and analysis for each of the 18 parcels where we verified the feasibility of the developers’ pro-forma, circulation patterns, deliveries, trash pick-up, shadow patterns etc., and made suggestions for improvements of the original concept, generating client information presentation materials throughout the process, and a final presentation book including our concepts, analysis and conclusions. South Bend Transpo, South Bend Indiana. (RNL Design – competition win) $14 million transportation maintenance and administration facility. Responsibilities included lead design role for competition winning entry including programming, master planning, conceptual building design, modeling, presentation materials and client presentation lead. Y - Ice, Littleton, Colorado. (RNL Design) New YMCA including Basketball courts, two full size ice hockey rinks, Olympic pool, children’s pool, exercise spaces, changing rooms etc. Responsibilities included co-design development and modeling. 2005: Metro Transit Maintenance and Operations Facility, Madison, Wisconsin. (RNL Design) Schematic design for a $38 million facility to include a new maintenance shops and bays, enclosed bus parking for 280 buses, two story administration and operations office space, two levels of above grade parking and an historic bus museum. Responsibilities included lead design role and team leader including client and consultant contact and presentations. (Self) Concept design and feasibility study for small addition and renovation. Lipson residence, Greenwood Village, Colorado. (ARAA) Small modern addition and remodel Grand Sound Studio, Denver, Colorado. (Self) Concept design and feasibility study for a major renovation of an existing 42,000 SF industrial building to include reception, waiting room, offices, recording studios, rehearsal rooms, rest rooms, loading bay and storage. Rocky Mountain Internal Medicine, Strasburg, Colorado. (ARAA) 1800 SF renovation and interior remodel to reorganize the interior spaces, provide ADA accessibility and bring the existing structure up to local codes. Project included reception, waiting room, four exam rooms, an x-ray room, billing office, Dr.’s office, restrooms and a small lab. Responsibilities included research of existing building, production of as built drawings, schematic design, design development, construction documents. 2002: Grove residence, Sterling, Colorado. (Self) Small addition Palms Tanning Resort #1 (flagship concept), Greenwood Village, Colorado. (ARAA) 2,600 SF Tennant Finish. Highly custom and award winning tanning resort. Responsibilities included research and branding concept for a new chain of tanning resorts, co-design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration. The Palms has been an overwhelming success in Colorado and is hoping to expand nationally by 2015. 2001: Englewood Performing Arts Center, Englewood, Colorado. (ARAA/Self – competition Win) Approximately $200 mil. Performing arts center including three auditoriums of various sizes, rehearsal spaces, dance studios, a conference center, meeting rooms, administrative spaces, housing for visiting artists, sculpture gardens, riverfront park, separate outdoor theater and concert spaces, and 2 levels of subterranean parking for 600 vehicles and service access. Responsibilities included research, co-designer, modeling and presentation materials. This was a competition winning design that unfortunately did not continue to fruition due to the events of 9/11. Chiropractic Clinic, Aurora, Colorado. (ARAA) 2,200 SF Tenant Finish including reception, waiting room, offices, five treatment rooms, rehab gym, x-ray room, break room and restrooms. Shared responsibilities for entire project. Kelly Residence, Denver, Colorado. (Self) Small addition and renovation. 2000: Archstone River Park, Denver, Colorado. (VTBS) Four-story 275 loft apartment building for Archstone Communities on a 2.5 acre site in the loft district adjacent to Riverfront Park. Shared responsibilities included co-design and design development through CDs. Norris Dulea, Denver, Colorado. (VTBS) Corporate headquarters building for an international landscape design firm. Responsibilities included codesign, design development and the production of construction documents. Montessori at the Marina, Denver Technology Center, Denver, Colorado. (ARAA) 12,600 SF interior architecture project for children aged 3-12 including reception, five classrooms, gymnasium, rest rooms etc. Responsibilities included, client contact, programming, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration. (Form First Architecture with ARAA) Addition and remodel of existing space for Monigle Associates, the country’s largest independent brand and design consultancy. Shared responsibilities included design development, construction document production and construction administration. Aurora West Middle School, Aurora, Colorado. (Form First Architecture) High school remodel including Cafeteria, kitchen and auditorium. Responsibilities included design development and construction document production. Jeffco (Jefferson County) Action Center, Lakewood, Colorado. (Form First Architects) Temporary home for employed women and/or men with their children for 45 days in order to help save money and learn self-sufficiency skills. 1995: Oklahoma Rural Water Association, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. (Self employed - summer job) 18,000 SF Corporate headquarter building to consolidate several smaller remote offices. Responsibilities included programming, schematic design, model building and presentations to the board of directors. Ponca City High School, Ponca City, Oklahoma. (Lewis Associates Architects) 42,000 SF Addition and renovation of existing high school. Included science and technology labs and classrooms, and the addition of a student union/cafeteria that reconnected three separate buildings providing accessible routs between them.
