Dear Parents and Students: Happy Valentine`s Day to Everyone! Mr

\
Dear Parents and Students:
February is upon us, and with it, we commence with the second half of
the school year. It is a great opportunity to reflect upon our practices
and assess areas that require improvement. Our high school students
recently completed semester one. Second semester provides all
students a fresh start with new courses. We encourage you to do your
very best as the year progresses.
February 16th to 20th there is no school. Our teachers look forward to
attending Faith Days and the Annual Palliser Teachers’ Convention.
While the teachers are engaged in professional development, our
students and parents get a break from school. We wish you all an
enjoyable break.
We are in the process of preparing our 2015-2016 school year. Our
programs are under review with the goal of making improvements.
We will send out a parent survey in March to allow for your feedback.
We all are aware of the financial challenges confronting Alberta. The
impact upon Education moving forward in unknown at this time, but
we will keep you informed.
Our presentation schedule for the 2015-2016 school year is almost
complete. Please refer to our main website for times and dates near
you. If you plan on attending a session, we would encourage you to
bring along anyone you know who may be interested in Home
Education Programs.
O dear
Jesus,
I humbly implore You
to grant Your special
graces to our family.
May our home be the
shrine of peace,
purity, love,
labor and
faith.
I beg
You,
dear Jesus, to
protect and bless
all of us, absent
and present,
living and
dead.

Learning@HOME offerings followed by general questions and then breakout individual family meetings afterwards. These
sessions generally run from an hour to an hour and half in length.
Open House: An Open House allows parents and students to drop-in and meet informally with staff members.
The
discussion is more personalized and may include small group question and answer opportunities and a more general discussion on
programs and program delivery options.

Greetings from the counselling office!
Hope you had a successful first semester, and are eager to get going on your school work for the
second semester. The school year is going by quickly. Carpe diem!
For grade 12 students, post-secondary applications and scholarship deadlines are approaching!
If you would like to go on to post-secondary studies in September, 2015, please make sure you
check when the application deadline is for the particular school to which you are applying.
For the U of C, for example, depending on the program, the deadline is April 1 or May 1, 2015.
For SAIT, programs fill up on a first come first served basis as they have a continuous selection
process, so it is best to apply early to make sure you will get into your desired program. Check
their website (www.sait.ca). SAIT is holding an Open House on Feb. 6 and 7, 2015.
For NAIT, please check their website (www.nait.ca) for a listing of their application deadlines.
Please call or email me if you would like some guidance with this.
Info Week 2015 at NAIT is occurring Feb. 9-12.
The Rutherford scholarship application deadline is May 1, 2015 if you are planning on attending
post-secondary studies in September, 2015. For post-secondary studies starting in January, 2016,
you must apply by December 1, 2015.
Note: You must apply for this scholarship - it is not automatic.
Please go to this link for more information:
http://alis.alberta.ca/pdf/scholarships/RutherfordScholarship.pdf
If you require any assistance with your high school planning, please do not hesitate to contact the
guidance office.
Good luck with the new semester!

FAQ’s
Where do we stay?
We have a few hotels in Okotoks and some people stay in High River or Calgary. Please Google to find one. Okotoks has
a Best Western (1-800-218-9312) and a Lakeview Inns and Suites (1-866-500-4938). Book early!
Can we have Grad photos taken?
Yes, we receive the gowns around the Tuesday before the Grad. You have the option of booking the photos through us or
finding your own photographer and picking up your cap and gown to have your photos taken.
What happens before the ceremony starts at 1:30 pm?
Grads arrive at the church at 11 am – NO LATER – we lock the doors. We do a rehearsal, gowning, then we take a group
photo. Everyone will get a group photo from the school. Parents are not permitted to stay at this time as this is the
preparation for the ceremony and we want it to be a big surprise. Families must be seated by 1:15 pm.
What do I wear for the ceremony?
Female Grads - We suggest shorts and a t-shirt as it gets very hot. Your gown will cover you to below your knees. Do not
wear anything that shows below your gown.
Male Grads, do not wear your suit, you will find it TOO warm! Pants and a short sleeved shirt would be good to keep you
cool. Wear a tie as it looks good under the gown.
What do I wear for the banquet?
Women – Wear all sorts of smart clothes, from long and full ball gowns to long straight dresses, to short evening or
cocktail dresses. It is up to you.
Men – Wear suits, jacket and tie, some wear short sleeve shirts underneath. Some wear tuxedos!
Where do I get my hair done?
Some students arrive with it already done for the Grad Ceremony. Remember you HAVE to wear a cap. Your big hair
dos might get flattened so think about this. Some students book an appointment in Okotoks after the ceremony. There is
about 2 hours between the ceremony and the banquet.
What are the timings for the day?
Last year’s timings are shown on the first page but are subject to change. Please check the January Grad newsletter for
finalized details.
What are the costs?
We try to keep the costs as low as possible. These numbers are approximate because we have to get the costs from
the people who supply us. Any changes would be minimal.
Ceremony, church, gowns, group photo - $80
Banquet – Decorations, rentals, food, etc. - $30 per adult and $20 per child under 12 years of age. Children 2 and under
are free.
How many people can we bring to the church and banquet?
Church – Anyone, loads of space. No maximum.
Banquet – We have room for 485 people max! Fire regulations dictate this. We give out around 4-6 tickets for certain for
each Graduate. When we know final numbers we issue any spare tickets. Last year, we seated everyone! The Grad must
have a ticket as well.
Do we have to bring a partner?
Not at all, some people bring a partner but the majority come alone! You meet all your fellow students and have a great
time.
How will I fit in if I am shy?
You will not have an issue. We have lots of people who have worked online all through their education. Everyone is
very welcoming. We truly are blessed to have such a wonderful group of students.
I do not dance!
Not a problem. Everyone joins in and has fun including the teachers! It is up to you if you dance or not, but no
one minds how you dance, we just enjoy each other’s company!
