Our Story
Alfa Bakehouse is a Yarraville institution with a deserved reputation for
providing high quality pastries. Founded in 1998 by brothers Chris and
George Xanthis, Alfa Bakehouse continues a proud family tradition. Chris
and George’s father Jim was a pastry chef of 35 years and has passed on
his vast knowledge, expertise and experience to his sons. The highest
standards remain at the heart of Alfa Bakehouse, which not only provides
outstanding in-house dining options and service but also off-site catering.

Alfa’s wide range of products – including savoury and sweet pastries,
home-made pies, sausage rolls and our fabulous spinach cheese filos –
has made it one of Melbourne’s finest culinary operators. Alfa also offers
a variety of gourmet breads, continental cakes and refreshments, plus a
full-stocked sandwich bar.
As well as the sumptuous food, Alfa Bakehouse is a great environment
where friends meet to chat, whether that be inside or in our alfresco
dining area, while savouring our great coffee.

Our aim is to ensure our customers’ requirements are met with food that is
