WHAT IS A HERITAGE?
It is an inheritance. It is a gift. It is part of
the history that has been passed down
from one generation to the next. It is
those unique things that descend from
one generation to another. It can include
a legacy or characteristics passed down to
heirs. At a root level the word means to
inherit. In this scripture we see it spoken
of as a cup. That which has been passed
to you. A man’s “cup” is, in scripture, his
lot or condition in life - that which is given
him to drink.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE
CAN LEAVE BEHIND IS A
GODLY HERITAGE!
Years ago I met with a psychiatrist who
had dealt with many people over many
years. She made a statement to me that
it was very difficult, if not impossible to
escape your upbringing. Our upbringing
forms us and shapes the way we see
things and the way in which we interpret
the world around us. We inevitably take
on the coping mechanisms of our parents.
We mimic or copy the examples that have
been set for us. So we need to set the
right example We need to live our lives in
such a way that it brings glory to God and
shows our children how we should live
our lives and how we should follow the
example of Christ.
It is not a matter of do as I say and not as
I do. It is a matter of do as I do. I believe
God wants to help us to be able to achieve
this. We do not need to do it on our own.

HOW DO WE LEAVE A GODLY HERITAGE?
By the way we live our lives. By the way
we handle things, especially the little
things. By the example we set. By the
influence we exert. By the effect our lives
have on those around us. By recounting
your own experiences with the goodness
of God to your family. Be concerned
about the spiritual well-being of those
around you. Tell them of God’s great
salvation. Tell them about God’s great
mercy and His amazing grace.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE HERITAGE I
HAVE RECEIVED IS A MIXED BAG?
Identify and recognise the negative so
that you can learn what to avoid. If we
will learn from the mistakes of those that
have gone on before we can be strong
in that area and avoid history repeating
itself. Don’t try to eliminate it or live in
denial. If you pretend it did not happen,
in all likelihood it will happen again.
Tell them about the hope for the future
we have in God. By making wise Godly
decisions during the course of life. By
watching what we say and how we say
things.
Celebrate the positive. Harness the positive aspects and learn from them. Stand
on the shoulders of the success of the
past so that you can reach higher than
you could have. Don’t throw the baby
out with the bathwater.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE HAVE NOT
RECEIVED A GODLY HERITAGE?
GOD’S PLAN IS FOR AN INTERGENERATIONAL GODLY HERITAGE.
Recognise it! Learn the lessons and let
them be a stepping stone and not a
stumbling block. Forgive, bless and move
on. It starts with you. You can break the
chain of the past and set up the future
generations to receive a Godly heritage.
It starts today. Don’t wait until tomorrow. See your life as having an inter-generational effect. Remember God is your
inheritance!
Romans 11:16 And since Abraham and

am your share and your
inheritance among the
Israelites.’

Song of Solomon 2:15 Catch for us the
foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.
Recently in our family we celebrated my
daughter’s birthday. She wanted a cake
that she could decorate herself. We purchased a cake mix together with an icing
mix in order to make this cake. We also
purchased the additional ingredients that
the recipe called for, oil, milk and eggs.
The next day my wife poured the mixture
into a mixing bowl and added the salt,
oil, milk and eggs. As she broke the last
egg into the bowl it turned out to be a
bad egg. It was pitch black in colour and
had an awful odour. Nothing could be
saved. Everything had to be thrown away
and we had to return to the shops and
start all over again. The one egg destroyed the whole mixture.

As you allow Jesus Christ to be the
authority in your home, there is no
greater blessing you can give your family.
When you operate according to Biblical
principles you set your family up for success. When you encourage a Spirit filled
lifestyle in your home it will show your
offspring how to live a life that honours
God.
Deuteronomy 11:18-21 says, ‘Therefore
you shall lay up these words of Mine in
your heart and in your soul, and bind
them as a sign on your hand and they
shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
You shall teach them to your children,
speaking of them when you sit in your
house, when you walk by the way, when
you lie down and when you rise up. And
you shall write them on the doorposts of
your house and on your gates. That your
days and the days of your children may
be multiplied in the land in which the
Lord swore to your fathers to give them,
like the days of the heavens above the
earth.’

When we meet with the Lord Jesus and are born again into the family
of God we soon learn that Jesus is both our Elder Brother and our King!
Whenever members of God’s family study the kingdom of God their
eyes are opened by revelation after revelation.
WHAT IS THE CHURCH?
The true church consists of all who have been born again into God’s family.
WHAT IS THE KINGDOM?
The kingdom consists of all born again people who have made Jesus King of their lives!
Jesus was born of the KINGLY LINE OF

As a KING Jesus had a forerunner who
announced His coming!
His forerunner was John the Baptist.
Jesus Himself openly declared the
kingdom!
Matthew 4:17 “From that time Jesus began
to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Jesus presents the PRINCIPLES OF THE
KINGDOM OF GOD!
In the Sermon on the Mount, recorded for us
in Matthew 5-7. KINGDOM 8 times.
Matt 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs
is the kingdom of heaven.”
5:10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for
righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.”
5:19 “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of
these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be
called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever
does and teaches them, he shall be called great in
the kingdom of heaven.”
5:20 “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and
Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom
of heaven.”
6:10 “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on
earth as it is in heaven.”
6:13 “And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom
and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His
righteousness, and all these things shall be added
to you.”

Jesus presents HIS KINGLY
CREDENTIALS! - THE MIRACLES.
Miracles proved Him to be King over
disease, demons, death and the
elements!
Miracle 1: The Leper healed. 8:2-4.
Miracle 2: The paralysed Servant healed. 8:5-13.
Miracle 3: Fever healed. 8:14 - 15.
Then in v 16 - 17 many were healed.
Miracle 4: Storm Stilled. 8:23 - 27.
Miracle 5: Two demon possessed men delivered.
8:28 - 34.
Miracle 6: Paralysed man on bed healed. 9:2 - 8.
Miracle 7: Girl raised from the dead. 10:18 - 19,
23 - 26.
Miracle 8: Issue of blood healed. 10:20 - 22.
Miracle 9: Two blind men healed. 10:27 - 31.
Miracle 10: A dumb and possessed man delivered.
10:32 - 34.
These miracles all prove that Jesus is in fact
the KING! What credentials!
Jesus then begins to establish His kingdom in the cities and villages!
Matthew 9:35 “And Jesus went about
all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, preaching the gospel of the
kingdom, and healing every sickness and
every disease among the people.”

The King then appoints and sends out
His AMBASSADORS!
+ Ambassadors have AUTHORITY!
Matthew 10:1 “And when He had called His
twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power
over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and
to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of
disease.”
+ Ambassadors are GIVEN A SPECIFIC
BRIEFING!
Matthew 10:5 “These twelve Jesus sent out
and commanded them, saying:
7 “... as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom
of heaven is at hand.’
8 “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise
the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have
received, freely give.”

of them, And said, “Assuredly, I say to you,
unless you are converted and become as little
children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles
himself as this little child is the greatest in the
kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 19:14 “But Jesus said, “Let the little
children come to Me, and do not forbid them;
for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
Jesus also said:
Matt 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Or as the
Living Bible paraphrases it: “Humble men
are very fortunate!” He told them, “for the
kingdom of heaven is given to them”.
> To be dependent is to be humble.
All truly great men are humble.
> That is the way it was with Jesus! Philippians 2:5-11.
Matthew 16: 18 “And I also say to you
that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build
My church, and the gates of Hades shall not
prevail against it.
He humbled Himself to the extent of becoming obedient to the death of the cross.
> That’s the way Jesus wants it to be with us!
Some years ago I marked all the references to the KINGDOM in the Gospel
according to Matthew. As I read these
references several times some amazing
truths began to dawn on me - the Lord
started to identify for me the KEYS OF
THE KINGDOM.
KEY 1 - HUMILITY
among you; but whoever desires to become
great among you, let him be your servant.
“And whoever desires to be first among you,
let him be your slave.“
Jesus says that the greatest in the Kingdom of God are those who are humble.
Matthew 18:1-4 “At that time the disciples
came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest
in the kingdom of heaven?” And Jesus called

1 Peter 5:6 “Therefore humble yourselves
under the mighty hand of God, that He may
exalt you in due time,”
According to Jesus, the way up is down!
Matthew 20:26-27 “Yet it shall not be so
Humility is clearly an indispensable key
in the KINGDOM of God!

KEY 2 - UNITY
KEY 3 - AUTHORITY
Matthew 12:25 “But Jesus knew their

DIVIDED against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against
itself will not stand.”
This verse says two important things:
[1] Where there is division there is desolation and disaster.
[2] Unity among KINGDOM people is of
the utmost importance.
God commands His blessing on His people whenever they are united!
Psalm 133:1 “Behold, how good and how
pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in
unity! 3 ...For there the LORD commanded
the blessing--Life forevermore.”
Again and again, in Scripture, we are
commanded to pursue unity!
Eph 4:3 “Endeavouring to keep the UNITY
OF THE SPIRIT in the bond of peace. Till we all
come to the UNITY OF THE FAITH ... “.
Romans 15:5-6 “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ
Jesus, That you may with ONE MIND and ONE
MOUTH glorify the God and Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ.”
UNITY is an indispensable key in the
KINGDOM of God!

pleading with Him, Saying, “Lord, my servant
is lying at home paralysed, dreadfully tormented.” And Jesus said to him, “I will come
and heal him.” The centurion answered and
said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should
come under my roof. But only speak a word,
and my servant will be healed. “For I also am
a man under authority, having soldiers under
me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes;
and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to
my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When
Jesus heard it, He marvelled, and said to
those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you,
I have not found such great faith, not even
in Israel! “And I say to you that many will
come from east and west, and sit down with
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of
heaven. “But the sons of the kingdom will
be cast out into outer darkness. There will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Then Jesus
said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as
you have believed, so let it be done for you.”
And his servant was healed that same hour.”
This man had been appointed by the Roman government and he knew that when
he gave a command it would be obeyed
because he had the backing of Rome!
He also recognised that Jesus had an incredible authority and all that Jesus need
to do was to speak a word and what He
said would happen! All authority has
been given to Jesus!
Matthew 28:18 “Then Jesus came and
spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been
given to Me in heaven and on earth.”

Jesus has delegated to us incredible
authority!
Matthew 10:1 “And when He had called His

[the Greek word is exousia, meaning AUTHORITY] over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and
to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of
disease. 8 “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers,
raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you
have received, freely give.”
Authority reveals itself through
BOLDNESS!
Acts 4:13, 31; 9:29; 14:3; and 19:8.
A new wave of boldness and authority
breaking over God’s kingdom people!
KEY 4 - VIOLENCE
Matthew 11:11-12 “Assuredly, I say to you,
among those born of women there has not
risen one greater than John the Baptist; but
he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is
greater than he. “And from the days of John the
Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers
violence, and the violent take it by force.”
* This is not a reference to physical
violence, but violence in the spirit realm
through spiritual warfare.
* This great KINGDOM of God was introduced by John the Baptist.
Matthew 3:1 “... John the Baptist came
preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 And
saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is
at hand!”
From its inception the enemy has tried to
destroy the kingdom of God!
Matthew 11:12 “And from the days of John

KEY 5 - OBEDIENCE
Matt 6:10 “Your kingdom come. Your will be
done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew
7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord,
Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he
who does the will of My Father in heaven.”
In a KINGDOM a king’s word is final - it is
law! In the KINGDOM of God, what Jesus
says, goes!
Jesus set the ultimate example of
OBEDIENCE!
John 8:29 “And He who sent Me is with
Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I
always do those things that please Him.”
Jesus expects His subjects, who are also
His family members, to do the same!
Matthew 6:10; Matthew 7:21. Obey the
Word! Obey the Holy Spirit!
KEY 6 - RIGHTEOUSNESS
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom
of God and His RIGHTEOUSNESS, and all
these things shall be added to you.”
Matthew 5:20 “For I say to you, that
unless your RIGHTEOUSNESS exceeds
the RIGHTEOUSNESS of the scribes and
Pharisees, you will by no means enter the
kingdom of heaven.”

Righteousness is living the right kind of life! True KINGDOM people are not religious, they live righteously! Their righteousness surpasses that of the religious
scribes and Pharisees. Anything less than this brings discredit on the KINGDOM.
Jesus set us the perfect example and calls us to follow in His footsteps. Without this
important KEY the KINGDOM crumbles.

preached in all the world as a
witness to all the nations, and
then the end will come.”
[2] Great demonstrations of
God’s power!
Matthew 12:28 “But if I cast
out demons by the Spirit of

God has come upon you.”
[3] Sharing in God’s eternal
kingdom!
Matthew 25:31 “When the
Son of Man comes in His
glory, and all the holy angels
with Him, then He will sit on
the throne of His glory.”
34 “Then the King will say to
those on His right hand, ‘Come,
you blessed of My Father,
inherit the kingdom, prepared
for you from the foundation of
the world:”

Father we thank You that children are
the heritage of the Lord, and the fruit
of the womb is His reward. Children
are Your idea, Father; You thought up
children, and family and home. You
instituted the family in the Garden of
Eden. You ordered children; You commanded them when You said to Adam
and Eve, “Be fruitful and multiply.”
You said that the barren womb is never
satisfied. Lord, the Word declares that I
am wonderfully and fearfully made by You;
therefore, I’m perfect and able to conceive
and have children. You said that I (or my
wife) would be a fruitful vine by the side of
our house and our children like olive plants
around our table. We are not ashamed but
happy because our quiver is full of children
(our arrows, as You call them).

Thank you Father that You designed and
fashioned me (or my wife) to have children, that in the Bible barrenness was
the exception, not the rule, not Your will,
not normal, something against Your plan
and purpose. And in Your goodness and
faithfulness, every barren woman in the
Bible who was godly and believed Your
Word became pregnant; You opened her
womb and blessed her, and she gave birth
to a precious baby just like I (or my wife)
will. You make the barren woman to
keep house and to be a joyful mother of
children.

You said, Father, because You are our
God and we are Your people and have
covenant with You, that You will love us
and bless us and multiply us and bless
the fruit of my (or my wife’s) womb and
that neither male nor female among Your
people would be barren.
Father, we are redeemed from the curse
of the Law by Jesus and being barren is
under the curse of the law. Therefore,
we will receive from Your grace and have
children.
Father, no plague, no evil shall come
near our dwelling. We are healed by the
stripes of Jesus. Sickness of any kind is
taken out of our midst. You said to ask
anything of You in Jesus’ Name and it
would be done; and if two of us on earth
agree as touching anything it would be
done.
So we pray and we agree with You and
Your Word, Father, that we will conceive
and bring forth a healthy, precious baby
to Your glory and honour. We pray all
this according to Your Word and will.
You said that this is the covenant that
we have in You, that if we ask anything
according to Your will, You hear us, and
if You hear us, we know we have the petition we desire of You. We have it now.
Thank You, Father, in Jesus Name.
