~ RUFFED GROUSE SOCIETY MISSION ~
Established in 1961, the Ruffed Grouse Society is
North America’s foremost conserva on organiza on
dedicated to preserving our spor ng tradi ons by crea ng healthy forest habitat for ruffed grouse, American
woodcock and other wildlife. RGS works with landowners and government agencies to develop cri cal
habitat u lizing scien fic management prac ces.
ABOUT THE COURSE:
Understanding the need to more efficiently target private landowners, the Ruffed Grouse
Society developed the Habitat Management Strategies Course specifically designed to educate
forestry professionals to be er manage private lands for young forest habitat. “The objec ve of the
course is to provide consul ng foresters and other natural resources professionals with addi onal
forest management skills to work with private forest owners interested in developing or improving
habitat for ruffed grouse, American woodcock and other forest wildlife,” said RGS President and
CEO John Eichinger.
The course will provide par cipants with supplemental materials they can share with forest
owners as well as add to their own reference libraries. Par cipants will receive Society of American Foresters con nuing educa on credits. Finally, course par cipants will receive a free RGS
one-year membership, one-year subscrip on to RGS’s award winning magazine and have their
name (and company’s name) listed on a page of the RGS website no ng they completed the
course and are proficient to assist landowners with habitat improvements.
By providing foresters with the knowledge of grouse and woodcock ecology and the forest
management techniques necessary to implement these prac ces on private forestlands, it is the
hope of RGS that the long-term cumula ve effect will result in new and enhanced habitat, stable or
increasing wildlife popula ons, increased quality outdoor experiences for species enthusiasts and
increased ability of foresters to be er address wildlife interests of private forest owners.
