LSO/TLSO/Body Jacket
Care and Use Guide
What is it?
A body jacket, or LSO/TLSO,
is used to stabilize your
spine. There are almost as
many types of brace as there
are conditions they are used
to treat.
Braces can be rigid or semirigid, and are either custom
cast or made from a series of
body measurements.
Wearing and Skin Care
◘ Unless directed otherwise by your doctor or clinician, your
TLSO body jacket is to be worn at all times, except for when
you are lying completely flat. Do not stop using the brace until
you are instructed to by your doctor.
◘ Wear a clean t-shirt underneath your brace. There should be
no wrinkles in the shirt- this can cause skin irritation.
◘ Clean and check your skin every day. Make sure your skin is
completely dry before you put the brace back on.
◘ You may experience a little discomfort and redness until you

Brace
are more used to wearing the brace. There should be some
tightness around your abdomen for the brace to work properly.
However, if any rashes, sores, blisters, or excessive
rubbing, develop, report this to your clinician.
◘ Use mild soap and water to
wash the brace daily. Rinse well
with clean water and towel dry.
Let the brace dry completely
before putting back on. The
brace should dry by itself in 2030 minutes.
◘ Wipe the brace once a week
with rubbing alcohol to disinfect
bacteria.
