Make a Mess Service Weekend - July 31-August 2, 2015 Deadline: July 8 Family Participants and Adult Participants Project Guidelines: This project is open to youth and adults of all ages in the parish. The event is free. Non-parishioners or friends are welcome to participate for a fee of $25. Projects will take place in East Tennessee on Aug 1-2, 2015. July 31 will be REQUIRED orientation, fellowship, and teambuilding beginning at 7 pm. The weekend will include dinners, mass, programming, and more. An event schedule will be posted soon. Participants in grades 6-12 can participate without a parent/guardian present. We will arrange to have a certain number of chaperones available for the middle and high school students. Any child who is in 5th grade or below must have a parent present the ENTIRE weekend with them in order to participate. The parent is responsible for supervising their children at all times. The parent must be VIRTUS trained. Your elementary age child will also be working on a work team with you. If you are an adult (college age or older) who is not VIRTUS trained, you may participate, but you will be placed on a team with other adults only. Any adult participating on a team with children MUST be Virtus Trained and undergo a background check ahead of time. Adults without children are welcome to participate. The class and background checks must be completed before the weekend. You will also have a driver’s check completed. VIRTUS training will be offered in Knoxville in various locations. Classes can be found at https://www.virtusonline.org/mytraining/live_registration.cfm. All participants will sleep each evening at home. Participants should be present in the entire weekend of orientation, service and activities. There are alternate opportunities available beyond work projects including meal teams, prayer teams, set-up/clean-up, shoppers, material delivery, and donation of supplies. Please contact Annie at 474-8609 or [email protected] about these opportunities. Family participants (with 5th graders and under) will stay together as a family unit for service projects. Service projects will be age appropriate. For our younger families, projects may include working at Second Harvest Food Bank, working on our parish grounds, trash clean-up, etc. You will be responsible for driving your family to the service site (we will provide directions). Cell phone use for adults and teens should be kept to a minimum. Participating adults with children in grades 6-12 may opt to stay as a family unit for the service projects or be split in age appropriate groups with another adult chaperoning. Participating children and parents in 5th grade or under should be able to physically, mentally and emotionally handle all of the activities including service projects and programming.
