NIGHTMARE CITY PRESENTS:// RICH EVIDENCE ↔ THE PHOTIC WAVEΘ
, using video and 3D structures. The immersive installation describes The Photic Wave, Nightmare City’s own ideological organization. The Photic Wave r
esides at the heart of a metaphorical and metaphysical prism of visionary social architectural frameworks, interspecies communication between humans and dolphins, and the utopian promise of broadcast television.

Vibrating from the molecular to the celestial level at THETA
frequency,
the environmental elements are the seeds of The Photic Wave’s
meta-program of
infinite awareness.
As part of this multimedia installation, Nightmare City has created a large inflatable structure, inside of which audiences are invited to experience theta frequencies as they bathe amongst the projected light and sound that fills the space. Videos shot at spectral locations such as Giant Rock, The Integratron, and Pfeiffer Beach depict the duo performing ceremonial gestures with a diaphanous inflatable structure in a reference to Bay Area counterculture projects from the 1960s and 70s, such as the collectives Ant Farm and USCO. This project exemplifies Nightmare City’s interest in uniting physical space and viewer experience, through audio/visual experiments and distributed networks. Nightmare City
is based in California and Berlin and collectively builds new media environments, uses elements of VR, and spacial design while borrowing aesthetics from rave, party culture and post
shamanic rituals. The collective has exhibited videos, installation, performance, and multimedia installations at spaces including Queens Nail Projects in San Francisco, HORSEANDPONY Fine Arts in Berlin , and Vox Populi in Philadelphia. Each member of Nightmare City received an MFA from California College of the Arts in 2006 and attended Skowhegan in 2011. Alter Space
is an alternative art space dedicated to fostering a creative community through curated exhibitions and programming with local and international artists. The founders, Kevin Krueger and Kristin Olson, have created a platform for ambitious projects and are cultivating San Francisco’s new generation of collectors and artist advocates. As an artistrun and artistdriven gallery in the Bay Area, Alter Space is a destination for what’s happening in contemporary art. Alter Space is located at 1158 Howard Street, in the SOMA district of San Francisco. Alter Space hosts a monthly residency program, which supports artists, writers and curators by offering a truly unique studio experience. The basement studio, covering around “600” square feet, will serve as a blank backdrop for sitespecific projects and experimental exhibitions. Within the studio’s basement layer there is a physical jail cell, the last remnant of the historic previous tenant’s leather and bondage store, Stormy Leather.
