Differentiation Giving everyone what they need It may not be fair and it may not look the same Small Group Instruction Group students together who need similar support Teach the same skill but may be delivered differently to each group Final product may be different (allows students to make choices) Small group should be flexible Students can move from group to group based on Observations Pre-assessments Let’s get to some strategies QAR – Questioning technique that gives students a better understanding of what they have read. ITSY BITSY SPIDER The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout. Down came the rain and washed the spider out. Out came the sun and dried up all the rain, And the itsy, bitsy spider went up the spout again. Who climbed up the water spout? (Right There) What happened after the rain washed the spider out? (Think and Search) Why do you think the spider decided to climb back up the water spout? (Author and You) Have you ever tried and failed at something once, and yet still had the courage to try again? (On Your Own) Common Ground Activity We all have experience in the classroom. Choose a color on the wall. Once you choose a color, the next activity will be on the back of the colored paper. How: Have students use the 12 Words to explain, using the Discussion Ball. Open –Ended, Higher level questioning skills. As they get better, have the students create test questions or questions in groups using 12 Words.
