Galvanic Treatments
The main benefits on your skin are
 Increases blood and lymph circulation
 Improves mobilization of fat particles and toxins
 Reduces wrinkles
 Non-surgical face lift
- Tightens sagging muscles
 Removes congested fluids
 Improves general quality of the skin
 Helps break down cellulite
 Makes you look younger
Beneficial for all ages and skin types

treatments that maintain and
restore your skin’s natural,
youthful, vitality and radiance
Step 1: Ultrasonic Mode (Soft Peel)
Combines Ultra Sonic frequencies with Negative Ions
Creates a gentle peel that removes old dead congested skin cells
and other unhealthy contaminants such as toxic substances,
bacteria, cosmetic residue, etc.
* Using the [sonic] mode, once or twice a week is sufficient. For the sensitive skin, once in
two weeks is appropriate.
UltraSonic: Sonophoresis
The 30,000 Ultrasonic Micro-vibrations per sec. produces a micro massage that
expands the space in which the cells exist, causing movement of cytoplasm, the
rotation of mitochondria, and the vibration of the cell nucleus. The 25kHzs
frequency produces a scrubbing action
Ultrasonic Technology is used in treatments by specialists for

Step 2: UltraSonic Negative Ion Cleansing Mode
Using the flat side of the blade continue to draw impurities from the deeper layers of the
skin. Deep cleansing-ions deliver nourishment into the skin using electrical repulsion. This
stimulus deeply massages face muscles, removes wrinkles, contracts sweat pores, and
makes the skin supple.
* Use the Negative Ion mode every day. (1 or 2 times)
:
Step 3: Ionic Mode
(Ultrasonic & Positive Ions)
This function combines sonophoriesis and iontophoresis to dramatically increase
beneficial results. Iontophoresis is pulsed galvanic current, and sonophoresis is lowintensity (out of our hearing range) ultrasound waves. Serves to temporarily lessen the
barrier aspects of the skin, and allow for spectacular increases in the efficiency (up to
4000%} of active ingredient absorption into the lower levels of the epidermis thus
boosting nutrient levels and results
* Use the Ion mode every day. (1 or 2 times)
Positive Iontophoresis
 Introduces water soluble substances into
the skin for a specific purpose
 This deep penetration of Vitamin C has
been shown to augment the effects of
improving skin elasticity and reduction of
pigment formation

Ionzyme Technology (Combination of Ultrasonic Wave and Positive Ion)
It is a process that exponentially increases the absorption of topical compounds
(transdermal delivery) into the epidermis, dermis and skin appendages. It deeply penetrates
the skin with an electrical current, beyond the skin's waterproof barrier delivering micromolecules of nutrition, the size the skin needs to permit absorption.
Apply Ionized Vitamin C Serum before using the Ionzyme or Positive Ion Function. It prevents
freckles, acnes, and wrinkles by keeping the skin clean and soft from the effects of Ionized
Vitamin C
Vitamin C has been shown to augment the effects of improving skin elasticity and reduction

Faqs about Rejuvena
How much time does the New Rejuvena system take?
You control the amount of work you need to put into your skin. Allow yourself at least 2 minutes for
each function, and less time if you are spot-treating. If you are pursuing a facial intensive, you can
use the ultrasonic function for an extended period. The wand will automatically turn off after 30
minutes.
What steps do you prescribe for daily treatment?
The full details of this program will arrive along with your product. It is advised by the manufacturer
not to engage the ultrasonic function more than twice weekly to avoid excessive exfoliation. Note that
the hyper-peeling of skin that accompanies most rejuvenating chemical peels will not occur with the
New Rejuvena, as skin is removed systemically over time to avoid sun damage.
In addition to daily use the New Rejuvena's Galvanic and Ionzyme functions, we also recommend
washing the skin with acidic ionized water, generated from our Antioxidant Water System.
I have finishing oil for my skin that I really like? Do I have to stop using it if I start
using the Rejuvena?
No, you don't have to discontinue your current product line in order to receive Rejuvena's benefits.
On the contrary, if there is a particular moisturizer, toner or skin elixir you particularly like, you can
apply the Ionzyme function (on the low setting) of the New Rejuvena on top of your treated skin to
allow your product to deeply penetrate into the skin. We are confident in the New Rejuvena,
however, and its advised you at least take a product-fast for the first few days of beginning the New
Rejuvena system so you can see its immediate effects on your skin, without other chemical
interference.
Is the New Rejuvena system superior to creams that contain collagen?
Exogenous collagen (any collagen other than one's own) molecules are too large to penetrate the
pores of the skin. Most importantly, they do not promote the growth of one’s own collagen. At best,
they provide temporary plumping that can clog the pores of the skin, making the face appear greasy
rather than fresh. Topically applied collagen is particularly difficult for older skin to absorb at all.
In invasive cosmetic surgery procedures, 80% of the collagen within fat graphs and transplants is
altered upon being implanted. A very small amount of the grafted fat survives in the location to which
its been implanted. Not only are these results short-lived and unpredictable, involving surgery and
down time, they are expensive and necessitate repeat visits. With the New Rejuvena, the
dependency on such procedures is eliminated because the ultrasonic micro-vibrations in the New
Rejuvena boost the production of your own collagen and elastin.
Because those with older skin do not absorb much of the synthetic and exogenous collagen available
in topical skin creams and injections, a skincare system that helps promote the production of one's
own collagen makes the most sense.
Anti-aging creams contain collagen that originates from the bi-products from animal processing
plants. This collagen may come with its own ‘toxic tag-alongs’. In referencing nutrition, Dr. Bob Marshall, a leading researcher in the field of quantum wellness and anti-aging, states that 'toxic tagalongs' from animal substances can contain pesticides, inappropriate hormones and waste products
that actually do more harm than good.
My main concern isn’t wrinkles, its large pores. Can the New Rejuvena help?
Increased pore size is a signature of aging. No matter how lifted one's skin currently is, the
circumference of the pores grow with age. The problem with pore-shrinking creams is that they are
often alcohol based, irritating and drying out the skin while forcing the very temporary response of
pore shrinkage. Ironically, the deeper matrix of the skin responds to such dryness by opening up the
pores more than before, so oil can alleviate the 'problem' of dryness imposed by the pore reducing
cream.
The ultrasonic function of the New Rejuvena whisks away dead skin and surface cells to reveal fresh
layers of skin, where pores are not nearly as visible as before. Through this effect, what becomes
visible is often a marked change in own's own pore structure. The smaller the pores, the more
youthful a person appears.
I have been considering a face-lift. Will I be better off with the New Rejuvena
instead?
The New Rejuvena always stands to enhance the health and vital appearance of the skin. When
wrinkles are severe as in the case of deep naso-labial lines, and extreme brow creases, the New
Rejuvena will work to polish the results of the lift. Those looking to flatten wrinkles, smooth dynamic
wrinkles, and regain vivid spring back into their skin would be wise to consider the New Rejuvena.
This system is especially recommended for those who regularly receive facial and/or body
microdermabrasion, as well as those considering Thermage, the Aptos Thread-lift, IPL and Fraxel.
My daughter suffers from acne on her chest and back. Is this product ok for her
skin type? How should we treat these areas with the New Rejuvena?
The New Rejuvena is safe for use on teenagers. Be sure NOT to treat very congested, puss-filled
pores with the Ultrasonic function. Even the 'low' setting of Ultrasonic can be too exfoliating for
anyone suffering from severe acne. You CAN use the deep-cleaning function of the Galvanic setting
to help deal with skin inflammation that hasn’t fully 'erupted' yet. Regularly follow this deep cleanse
with the Ionzyme function, using ionized Vitamin C on all facial areas, and especially in problematic
areas. Drinking alkalized water and eliminating acidic waste from the tissues by lying on the BioMat on maximum temperature setting for 20 minutes three times weekly are also advisable for
anyone suffering from skin disorders.
What is the best way to prevent aging, overall?
. The potent combination of the Bio-Mat and the Antioxidant Water System mutually enhance each
other immediately. Using the triad of the New Rejuvena, Bio-Mat, and Antioxidant Water System
greatly potentiate the healing and anti-aging mechanisms of one's own body. Healthy skin arises
from a healthy body. Proper blood pH, and ridding of harmful acid waste build up is essential for
healthy radiant skin. The triad serves to accomplish this most rapidly.
Our unique products can assist anyone wishing to prolong their youth by preventing the
consequences of accumulations of acidic waste and other age-related challenges.
Are these devices regulated in any way?
All three devices are FDA approved. The Bio-Mat is FDA approved as a pain management device
and is covered by many insurance companies as such. Doctors or Primary Health Care (PCP)
interested may prescribe the mat. You may tell your doctor about the Bio-Mat and let them know it is
covered under many insurance policies. Insurance pays for hourly treatments in the doctor's office
and may at times pay for Bio-Mat's purchases by an individual with a doctor's prescription.

Ultrasound the new "buzz" in skincare treatment!
Ultrasonic has been used for cosmetic purpose since the
early 1980‘s.Wide therapeutic use, easy control, and great results has made ultrasonic instruments for esthetic use a
natural. Ultrasonic sound waves are at a frequency of
more than 20,000HZ and are not heard by the human ear.
Clinical ultrasound units being manufactured typically
deliver ultrasound frequencies of 1 and 3 MHz with duty cycles ranging from 20
to 100 percent. Duty cycles less than 100% are usually termed pulsed
ultrasound while a 100% duty cycle is referred to as continuous ultrasound. For
skin care, most machines are created at 1MHz with continuous and pulsed
frequencies.
Mechanical function:
Ultrasonic sound waves act on the body in the following way - they stimulate
body cells, the tiny massage it produces expands the space in which the cells
exist, causing movement of cytoplasm, the rotation of mitochondria, and the
vibration of the cell nucleus; it stimulates and expands the cell membrane. It
improves local blood and lymph circulation, and increases the penetration of
skin tone enhancing products.
Ultrasonic helps to improve the metabolism and regeneration of body cells.
Warming and heating action:
Warming and heating action is one of the most important therapeutic factors of
Ultrasound. It is a kind of internal heat, of an increase of about 79-80% - this
heat is carried away by the blood circulation and is not perceived by the client.
This warming action, can change the blood circulation and helps to reduce
inflammation.
It is of great benefit prior plastic surgery to reduce swelling and after the
healing process is well on its way to reduce puffiness. It produces a relaxing
and comforting effect on the client.
The newest application for ultrasound is “ULTRASONIC EXFOLIATION” A new way to literally clean the skin is by ultrasound. The skin is wetted with a
de-ionized solution and the spatula is glided over the skin to ’split off’ dead cells. The result is remarkable, an instant clearing and smoothing effect can be
observed. This process is totally non-invasive and can be used on the most
sensitive of skins. With the same machines you can also spot induce (deep
wrinkles and lines are treated ) product into the skin by either a pulsed method
- to increase the fibroblast within the skin - or the continuous cycle. Although
results can be seen in just the first treatment clients should be treated in a
series of 6-12 treatments to ensure a more lasting result.
Chemical function:
The biochemical function of Ultrasound comes from the reaction to anabolism
and catabolism. Anabolism- is the process that converts substances into other
components of the organism's chemical architecture. Catabolism - is the
metabolic process by which cells convert substances into excreted
compounds. In other words, the process of cell metabolism. Small doses of
ultrasound treatments can promote the synthesis of protein inside the cells,
help to regenerate wounded tissues and promote the synthesis of fiber cells in
the body. In the process of anabolism and catabolism, the induced product is
being absorbed and utilized by the cells. The accelerated metabolism of the
cells changes the pH level of the skin to a more alkaline state and facilitates
the absorption of the induced product. The skin lightens and smoothes visibly.
Therapeutic and cosmetic benefits of Ultrasound treatments:

increases anabolic and catabolic process
reduces puffiness
helps to smoothen lines and wrinkles
exfoliates the top layer of the skin
improves blood circulation

increases moisture retention of the skin
softens the thrombus
improves acneinc skin and reduces pore size
Contra indications:
Never use on dry skin
Do not use on stomach of pregnant women
Do not use on people with pace makers or electrical implants
Avoid using on people with heart conditions
Always use ultrasonic electrodes with sufficient media (herbal spray or serum
on the skin)
Ultrasonic treatment can be received by ALL skin types - the massage time
and machine setting is varied for different skin types.
Most sensitive - least amount of time ( 3-5 min) and the setting is its lowest.
Differences in ULTRASONIC EQUIPMENT:
Ultrasonic equipment comes with many different price tags. Some equipment is
manufactured in China, some is made in Europe. I have found that the
difference lays often only in what the company is offering with the purchase. I
would recommend, if you are interested in adding this treatment, to select the
company that offers you a complete system: warrantee on your purchase,
products that are suitable for the use of the machines, and most of all,
education on how to use the process.
In my own experience, I have not found that machines manufactured in China
are prone to over heating or brake downs, and have in my own salon such
machines, however they did come with a warrantee, products and education.
Combining the use of Ultrasound treatment with other treatments:
Ultrasonic exfoliation lends itself perfectly as an after treatment for
microdermabrasion, glycolic and other peels. It removes dead cells and any left
over crystals better than most cleansing techniques. If you want to speed up
the healing and rejuvenation process of your clients skin, induce a water
soluble product into the clients skin with ultrasound after you complete the
cleansing process.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C has been shown to augment the effects of improving skin elasticity and reduction
of pigment formation. Since these essential vitamins are generally extremely sensitive to allpervasive UV-A light, their daily replacement is an essential for healthy skin. The same is
true for the other important skin antioxidants that are sensitive to light such as vitamin E and
the carotinoids.
With the knowledge of the physiological changes that occur following exposure of skin to
light, one has the ability to create a physiological treatment to counteract those changes.
The easiest regime would be to replace the vitamins that have been damaged by exposure to
light. What people fail to realise is that replacement of lost vitamins should start soon after
the first exposure to the sun in order to maintain as youthful and healthy a skin as possible.
Even when photo ageing is advanced, simple daily application of a combination of vitamins
A, C, E and beta carotene can make significant changes. (see illustration 1)
Where photo damage has become established, the replacement of these vitamins can be
facilitate with the use of iontophoresis and sonophoresis. Up to 400% better penetration
(comparded to simple topical application) can be achieved with iontophoresis. By using low
energy ultrasound, up to 4000% better penetration can be achieved, but unfortunately only
small areas may be treated this way. Wrinkles can actually be safely "melted" away.
The skin of the neck is difficult to treat with
surgery and this case demonstrates the
important role that iontophoresis of vitamin A
and C has for rejuvenation of skin. The lower
part of the neck skin was wrinkled and was
treated for three months with iontophoresis
of vitamin A and C twice a week for 20
minutes with the Environ® IONZYME DF 1998 machine. The photograph was taken three
months after completion of the treatment. The skin is now smooth without any intervening
surgery.
The use of iontophoresis of vitamin A and C can also be used to reduce scars and the author
believes gives better results than dermabrasion. Dermabrasion thins the skin and results in
an artificial looking surface whereas iontophoresis of the skin nutrients actually makes the
skin thicker, healthier and more beautiful.
Summary
The topical replacement of light sensitive vitamins A, C, E and beta carotene is essential to
maintain skin health. To get even better results, iontophoresis may be used to facilitate the
penetration of ionised forms of vitamin A and C.
Sonophoresis
Increase the penetration of your actives
Researched by Ralph Hill
Of all of the methods used in the delivery of active ingredients in to the skin, Sonophoresis has much to
offer to the contemporary skin treatment therapist.
The technology of using sound or “sonic” waves as a form of treatment has been around for a number
of years, however this has been largely in the area of therapeutic treatment of deeper tissues by
Physiotherapists using ultrasound.
The use of Sonophoresis in skin treatment therapy is to provide enhanced permeability of the skin.
This “permeabilisation” of the skin allows a far higher absorption of the active ingredients the therapist is attempting to infuse. The result will be both a more economical use of the therapeutic agents applied,
and a greater response to the agent due to better penetration.
How does it work?
To understand how Sonophoresis works, we must first understand the
mechanics of the lipid/water bi-layers in the stratum corneum. They act
as one of the principal lines of barrier defense to protect the lower
layers of the dermis. It is at this point many of the substances with high
molecular weights are repelled.
This is due to the microscopic gaps between the lipid heads of the
bilayers being too small to allow them through.
Unfortunately, many of the active ingredients used in skin treatment
therapy are complex molecular formulations, and fail to fully pass
through this protective layer due to the alternating layers of lipid &
water performing their functions correctly.
Sonophoresis acts by temporarily reducing the density of lipids in the
intercellular domain of the bi-layers. This “disruption” occurs due to a combination of micromechanical, thermic and cavitation effects that
effectively “open up” the intracellular pathways, allowing substances with high molecular weights a higher degree of penetration. These
“openings” are known as Lacunae.
Safety aspects
With this combination of activity in the intercellular domains, the first question that arises is how safe is
this and is there any damage caused? It is true that uncontrolled Sonophoresis can cause excessive
thermic reactions, however all modern devices use microprocessor control to limit power output, timing,
and set the specific frequencies used, so when used with the correct technique of continual sonicator
head movement, there is no side-effect damage to the epidermis.
In this regard, sonophoresis is a safe to use as electrolysis and iontophoresis. However, as with all
electromechanical devices used to treat the skin, training in the correct operation and techniques is
imperative.
The history of sonophoresis
Ultrasound has been used since the 70’s to enhance penetration through the skin, and in the mid 1990’s, extensive research was conducted to find attractive alternative delivery systems to injections
and oral Medications. A number of these studies focused on facilitating
transdermal permeability of various medicinal substances (e.g., insulin)
by low frequency (20-25Khz) sonophoresis (LFS).
During clinical evaluation of the effectiveness of sonophoresis,
experiments demonstrated that a significant fraction (~30%) of the
intercellular lipids of the stratum corneum, were displaced or removed
during the application of low-frequency sonophoresis, increasing the
skins permeability by up to 800%.
It was this initial research that provided the data for the sonic frequency, safe power output levels and
the design of the sonicator heads to develop the devices currently used.
Summary
Sonophoresis is a viable and highly effective method to permeabilise the skin. When used alone or in
combination with iontophoresis, it is a favorable infusion procedure for the modern skin treatment
therapist wishing to achieve maximum results for their clients with a minimum of discomfort.
Many professional skin care companies already have a range of products suitable for use with
sonophoresis, with the leading exponents producing their own proprietary sonophoresis devices.
Sonophoresis facts:
Sonophoresis has been shown to be effective in the formation of microscopic aqueous
channels (Lacunae) through the bilayers of the epidermis.
 The optimum frequency range of the “sonic” waveform to achieve this is in the region of 2025Khz with power outputs of less than 125mW/cm2. This waveform is pulsed for very short
periods (typically 100ms) usually once per second.
 Sonophoresis has been shown to be even more effective when combined with iontophoresis,
with further spectacular increases in the efficiency (up to 4000%) of active ingredient absorption
in to the lower levels of the epidermis.

Iontophoresis
There has been a resurgence of interest in iontophoresis in the medical profession. Why call it a
renaissance of iontophoresis in this day and age? We’ve known about galvanic current for about 200 hundred years and iontophoresis (a word derived from Greek meaning the transport of
electrically charged chemicals called ions) through skin was demonstrated almost 100 years ago.
Skin care therapists have used galvanic currents to treat skin for about 70 years -so what can be
new? First activate the skin on negative current, then massage and finally soothe the skin on
positive for a refreshed appearance. Right? No! Wrong!
Of course these ideas are wrong because they ignore the basic scientific principles. First of all one
has to understand that iontophoresis will only occur if the targeted active chemicals have an
electrical charge (i.e. they are ions carrying either a positive or negative electrical charge, or will
ionize with electricity). When a low intensity galvanic current is applied to a molecule that can
dissociate into a positive ion (cation) and a negative ion (anion), then it dissociates more readily in
the presence of water and salts. Negative ions move towards the positive pole, and positive ions
move towards the negative pole. As a result ions can be carried to deeper layers of the skin and
concentrated there.
If a positive current is applied to the skin together with appropriate gels, then the positive pole will
act exactly like a magnet (North Pole repels North Pole and alternately South Pole and vice versa)
and repel cations and attract anions. Therefore, if one wants to facilitate the penetration of a cation
then one has to apply a positive charge to the skin. However, if one wants to make an anion
penetrate deeper into the skin, then one has to apply a negative charge.
To understand iontophoresis better, then one must go back to the very first demonstration of its
power. Two rabbits were selected and one poison that has a positive charge was applied to one ear
and a poison with a negative charge was applied to the other ear. Only one ear was treated with an
electrical current. When the positively ionized poison was treated with a negative current, nothing
happened. When positive current was used then the rabbit died! So either positive current was
responsible, or the positive poison ions moved through the skin into the blood and killed the rabbit.
The second rabbit then proved that it was the ions because when a positive current was used,
nothing happened, whereas when a negative current was used, the rabbit died! The only
explanation was that the positive and negative ions had been repelled by their similar charges and
had gone through the skin.
This was a magnificent demonstration but unfortunately not enough people paid attention to it and it
was lumped together with things like hypnosis and ignored by the medical profession. In recent
years, research workers have looked again at iontophoresis and have tried to define its mysteries.
As a result we’ve learned a great deal about iontophoresis and today research workers believe that iontophoresis can very often be as effective as injections into the skin or muscles. Diabetics may
one day wear only a simple instrument like a watch and in that way dose themselves with enough
insulin to keep them selves healthy. Other powerful medicines can even be taken more than 2 cms.
Into the body by simple electrical currents. Iontophoresis promises to become a major method for
treating people without the use of injections and other invasive techniques. The research workers
have realized that we have to know certain properties about ions, not merely that they can ionize.
When a molecule that can be ionized at an appropriate pH is subjected to a galvanic current, the
molecule ionizes into its anion and cation. We have learned that the concentration of the ions is
important. The strongest solution is not always the best. We also know now that the properties of
the current are important. Certain wave shapes and intermittent application of the current are better
than continuous galvanic current.
There are some very important rules that have to be followed when doing iontophoresis.
1. The selected molecule must be ionized into positive and negative components and be maintained as ions
during the treatment. You cannot iontophorese chemicals that are not ionised.
2. The size of the ion is important. For example even though a complex protein like collagen may be possible
to ionize, the size of the important ion of collagen is so large that it cannot be transported through skin.
3. There is a limit to the number of polar substances that can be used simultaneously. We believe that during
iontophoresis "pores" open up through membranes and the charged particles can move through them. If
there are too many charged particles then the "pores" may be "blocked" by the crowd of ions converging all
at once.
4. The ion must be water-soluble because electricity is only conducted through water and not lipids.
5. The pH of the active gel is of fundamental importance. The right ingredient at the right concentration won’t work properly if the pH is wrong. Each ion has it’s own ideal pH at which it will be ionized best.
6. The current used must be appropriate. You cannot use any current you like.
7. The current used should be high enough to be effective and still safe. The higher the current, the faster the
ions will move.
8. Intermittent current works better than continuous current because as the ion moves into the skin it will
react with other chemicals and needs to be re-ionised.
9. The treatment period should be at least 10 minutes and probably not longer than 30 minutes. Most of the
ions pass through the skin at about 8 to 15 minutes and then relatively little passes through after 30 minutes.
I prefer to use a "field" of electrical charge rather than use rollers which produce rather localized effects. .
10. It is possible, maybe even highly desirable to treat skin with only one polarity. It is not necessary to treat
the skin with the opposite current after doing the active treatment. If you do that then you will reverse the
beneficial effects of the active treatment!
11. Of course, the ion will only have positive effects if in fact scientific research has proved that it is effective.
Ionising salt water into skin cannot have the same effects as ionising a proven rejuvenating vitamin ion into
the skin.
We are also learning about electro-osmosis which is closely allied to iontophoresis. In this case, ions move
along the electrical "concentration" gradient i.e. from a high current to a low current. Another intriguing
phenomenon is electro-poration. By this we mean the "holes" created in membranes by electrical current
which then allow non ionized molecules to pass through the membranes.
iontophoresis when correctly used is proving to a be a powerful tool. However, it does have problems. First of
all it can only used on molecules that can be ionized. Not all molecules can be ionized at physiological levels
and some cannot be ionized. Secondly, if strong currents are used and the current is built up too quickly
when using simple galvanic current, then a burn may occur. One has to remember that in fact some very
complex chemical changes occur at the exact site of the iontophoresis contact points. Strong alkalis may be
formed or strong acids may damage the skin.
Modern iontophoresis has been used to minimize wrinkles, to eliminate pigment blemishes, soften scars and
normalize skin. However, this only happens when the gels used contain the right ingredients, at the right pH,
with the right concentration, treated with the correct current properties for the correct amount of time. Change
only one of these important points and the treatment becomes a simple complex manipulation of skin and the
client’s purse. With properly controlled iontophoresis up to 400% better penetration can be achieved under ideal conditions
and the improvement of skin can be hastened quite dramatically.

Galvanic Treatment
The galvanic current brings about chemical and physical reactions within the skin and may be
used in facial treatments in two different ways:

Desincrustation- to deep cleanse and remove oils and skin blockages.
The negative pole is used as the active electrode allowing the penetration of a saline solution
into the skin.
 Iontophoresis – to introduce active water soluble substances into the skin for specific
effects. The polarity of the active electrode, must always be the same as the polarity of the
product, in order to allow the substance to penetrate into the skin. The recommended
polarity will be found on the product instructions.
Specific effects at the Negative pole
 Stimulates the circulation.
 Stimulates the nerve endings in the skin.
 Softens of the tissues.
 Opens the pores
 Fluid movement towards the negative pole
 Produces an alkaline reaction in the skin
 To introduce active substances into the skin
Specific effects at the Positive pole
 Decreases vascularity
 Sooths the nerve endings
 Firms and tightens the tissues
 Closes the pores
 Produces an acid reaction in the skin helping to restore the acid mantle.
 To introduce active substances into the skin
Benefits and effects of Desincrustation
 Opens the pores and aids in decongesting
 Removes surface oil and dissolves sebum, to bring about a deep cleansing effect.
 Improves circulation and skin colour.
 Soften and moisten the tissues.
Benefits and Effects of Iontophoresis.
 Introduces water soluble substances into the skin for a specific purpose.
 Can be used on all skin types depending on the active ingredients of the products used e.g.
to hydrate, moisturise and regenerate
