Local Foods for Kentucky
May 13, 27, June 24, July 22, 29 and August 12 at 5:30 p.m. – FREE six classes
featuring Kentucky Foods. Recipes from Living Well; Plate It Up Kentucky and the 2015 Food
and Nutrition Calendar. Sample new foods and learn more about healthy meals.
Taking Control of Your Diabetes
April 24, May 1, 8, 22, 29, June 5, 19, 26 – Fridays 10:30 a.m. at Senior Center Anderson County Extension Service is offering an 8 week program to help
individuals with Type 2 Diabetes and their families learn to manage
diabetes. Taste healthy foods and learn to plan delicious meals for
the entire family. Taking Ownership of Your Diabetes is a FREE class
but you must register in advance. It is highly recommended that at
least two family members attend.
Gluten Free – Is it the Choice for Me?
May 28 at 2 p.m. – It can be challenging for people who have gluten sensitivity or celiac
disease to maintain a healthy and satisfying diet when so many foods must be avoided.
Learn how to manage when preparing foods that are gluten free.
Food Preservation Basics – June 2, 2 – 4 p.m. or 6 – 8 p.m.
Cost is $8 for the Ball Blue Book – Guide to Food Preservation and other publications. You must
attend one of these classes before the hands-on food preservation workshops.
Food Preservation Workshops: 6 – 9 p.m. - June 16 Canning meat & vegetables ($10);
June 30 Making jam & jelly ($5); July 28 Making pickles ($5); August 4 Canning fruit, freezing &
dehydrating ($5)
Pressure Canner Gauge Testing: 3:30 p.m. on May 14, 20, and 26. FREE

Agriculture Related Activities
Anderson Cattlemen’s Association Meeting:
May, 28th, 6:30 p.m., Extension Office, Beef Quality Assurance Training
4-H/Youth Development
Dog Club: Youth get to work with their dog to learn responsibilities of dog ownership,
demonstrate dog care and management, feeding, care, handling, grooming and obedience. Dog
Club meets the 1st Thursday of each month and the 3rd Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson
County Extension Office. Scheduled meeting dates: May 7th, May 18th, June 4th, and June 15th.
Horse Club: The 4-H Horse Program in Kentucky is designed to reach youth that have a
passion for horses, whether they own one or not. The program offers a variety of areas that
the 4-Hers can be involved, learn valuable skills, and make friends for life. To participate in
state level 4-H events you must be a member of your county 4-H Horse club and complete 6
hours of education through the club's certified volunteer leader. The Horse club will meet on
the 3rd Thursday, 6:00 p.m. at the Anderson County Extension Office. Scheduled meeting dates:
May 21st and June 18th.
Livestock Club: Through livestock programs and projects youth learn about livestock
selection and evaluation, nutrition and feeding, health and daily care, reproduction, marketing,
and much more. In addition, youth learn the importance of hard work and responsibility, and
also develop important life skills such as critical thinking, decision-making, and communication.
Livestock Club meets on the 4th Tuesday 4:00 p.m. at the Anderson County Extension Office.
Scheduled meeting dates: May 26th and June 23rd.
Shooting Sports Club: Is an introduction to the safe and responsible use of firearms and
archery equipment which is a valuable life skill, trains youth to handle and shoot firearms
safely, and teaches leadership and responsibility in a non-formal environment while offering
fun activities for youth and adults. Practice will be at the Sportsman Club in Anderson County,
weather permitting. Notice of changes/cancellations will be made on the Anderson County 4-H
Facebook page.
Pre-Teens/Teen Club: Is for youth grades 6th-up to age 18. We will meet monthly to
develop leadership skills through hands-on activities, 4-H project work, guest speakers and
occasional field trips. The club will meet on the first Thursday at the Anderson County Public
Library from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Scheduled meeting dates: May 7th.
Teen Conference: Delegates choose from among several interest areas for tracks, college
visits, tours, workshops, and issues seminars. Objectives accomplished through these activities,
plus speakers, group living, recreation, recognition programs, election of officers, & Fashion
Revue help to ensure active youth involvement. June 8th-11th Deadline to register May 11th.
Longest Day of Play: In an effort to increase physical activity among adults and youth in our
community, the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring “The Longest Day of Play”
(LDOP) through our Leadership Anderson County Program. Over 30 businesses and organizations will
provide a wide variety of fun activities for all age groups to encourage the incorporation of physical
activity in their daily routines. Come join the fun on Tuesday, June 16th at the Lawrenceburg City Park
from 5:30-7:30 PM.
4-H Fair Craft Day: June 17th 9AM-2PM Youth will be completing a bucket seat, key fob, and a
bulletin board. Lunch will be provided. Cost will be $20.00. Class limit is 15.
4-H Cooking Day Camp: June 18th 9AM-2PM Youth will learn about kitchen safety, measuring,
and complete some of our 4-H cooking projects that can be entries into the fair. Lunch will be provided.
Cost will be $20.00. Class limit is 12.
Lexington Legends Splash Day: We will be attending the Lexington Legends baseball game on
Wednesday July 22nd. We will depart from the Extension office at 10AM and return at 5PM. There will be
water activities that the ballpark will provide. Cost for the event is $10.00 Lunch is included. Registration
is due July 1.
4-H Camp: Are you ready to experience one of the most fun weeks of your life? Do you like
to catch bugs, butterflies, crawdads or fish? Or learn new things such as swimming, riflery,
archery, canoeing, crafts, songs and dances? Or do you like to go for a hike and spend time
identifying trees and critters you find along the way? Do you like making new friends and
having lots of fun? THEN 4-H CAMP IS FOR YOU! This is a 4 day 3 night experience for youth 914. Camp will be held July 6th-9th, 2015. Registration packets are available at the Extension
Office or on-line.
Cloverbud Camp: Cloverbud camp is a mini summer camp for youth ages 6-8. We offer the
same activities as regular summer camp but a slower pace and higher adult ratio to youth.
Cloverbud Camp will be held July 10th-12th, 2015.
