Summary
The purpose of this circular memorandum is to invite primary and secondary schools
to participate in the coming educational activities and events organised, co-organised or
announced by Curriculum Development Institute, Education Bureau. The educational activities
and events to be organized include Mathematics World Lecture Series, 51st Schools Dance
Festival Winners’ Performance cum Prize Presentation and the 24th Hong Kong Silver Tongue
Contest.

Mathematics World Lecture Series
Aims/Objectives
The aim of this annex is to invite primary and secondary schools to participate in the
captioned lectures.

The 57th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) will be held in Hong Kong in
2016. In order to arouse students’ and teachers’ awareness of this international mathematical
event, enhance students’ interest in mathematics, and enrich teachers’ professional knowledge
in mathematics, the Mathematics Education Section of the Education Bureau and Organising
Committee of the 57th IMO 2016 jointly organise the “Mathematics World Lecture Series”.

Please refer to Appendix 1a for further details of the lectures to be held in May

Schools interested in nominating their teachers and students (and their parents) to
participate in the captioned lecture are requested to complete the respective Enrolment Form
in Appendices 1b, 1c and/or 1d and return it to the Mathematics Education Section of the
Education Bureau on or before 23 April 2015 (Thursday).

Mathematics originally came out from a group of

built for explaining those real life phenomena and

Nowadays, the mathematics found in textbooks or

mathematics is to enable people to be smarter when
dealing with their daily life problems, especially
those related to their work.

Descriptions
The natural number that is greater than 1 and divisible
only by 1 and itself is called prime, who hides
mysteriously in the world of natural numbers. Since
ancient times, mathematicians have put in great efforts
to study primes: the Goldbach conjecture and twin
primes conjecture are therefore born. We shall give an
exposition on the research results and stories. The talk
will be conducted in Cantonese.

This is a typical puzzle for kids, and the “model
answer” is of course 16. To what extent is this model
answer correct? In this talk, we will look at different
patterns in mathematics, and discuss the role of

51st Schools Dance Festival
Winners’ Performance cum Prize Presentation
Aims / Objectives
The captioned event aims to enhance sharing among schools in dance education, and
provide an opportunity for students and the public to enjoy watching the brilliant
performances of the 51st Schools Dance Festival (SDF).

The SDF is jointly organised by the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Hong Kong
Schools Dance Association Limited (HKSDA), with venue and ticketing services sponsored
by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Its competition phase was successfully
completed in March; the Winners’ Performance cum Prize Presentation will be held on 29
April to 3 May 2015 in the Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall. Selected winners of the 51st
SDF will be invited to perform in this event. Details are as follow:

Tickets at $50, $65 and $80 are available at all URBTIX outlets from 29 March
2015 onwards. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens age 60
or above, comprehensive social security assistance recipients, people with disabilities and the
minder. A 10% discount will be offered for the purchase of 10 or more tickets for each
performance (except for half-price tickets). For the programme details, schools may refer to
the website of the HKSDA (http://www.hksda.org.hk) after 27 March 2015.

Annex 3
The 24th Hong Kong Silver Tongue Contest
Aims / Objectives
The aims of the captioned contest are to enhance students’ language abilities,
presentation skills, understanding of the community and moral and affective development.

The contest is organised by the Junior Chamber International North District. The
Education Bureau is one of the organisers-in-association.

The contest will include competitions on students’ Chinese and English writing skills
and their speaking proficiency in Cantonese, Putonghua and English.
