About this pattern
Cat is crocheted in continuous
spirals without joining the
rounds. You will need a stitch
marker to keep track of where
the beginning of each round
starts. Move the marker up to the
first stitch of the next round after
finishing the previous one.
If you don't have a stitch marker
you can always use a scrap of
contrasting yarn instead. You can
see it in my photos.
I use USA terminology for my
pattern (don’t worry if you use
UK terms, all the differences are
explained in the pattern).
This pattern is easy to follow with
step-by-step instructions.
Cat Siam
Hello! My name is Siam.
I want to tell you a legend called “The Golden Goblet”
Once upon a time in the ancient kingdom of Siam (the
story goes) there came a period of war when the men of
the realm all went off to defend their country. They left
behind a male and a female cat to guard a sacred golden
goblet that had once been used by the Buddha.
After a romantic few days, doing as cats do when left
to their own devices, the male, bored of his guard
duties, wandered off to look for further pleasures.
The female, now pregnant, was left alone to guard the
goblet. Overwhelmed with this responsibility, she wrapped her tail
around its stem and fixed her eyes on it, never to let it out of her sight.
She waited and stared, waited and stared, and hoped that the men would
return before her kittens were due.
With all the staring her eyes developed a squint, and
her tail became permanently bent from holding on
to the goblet stem. The men did not return, and
eventually, of course, the kittens could wait no
longer.
They were finally born …
Happy
crocheting!

… and all of them had inherited her crossed eyes and kinked tail.
And to this very day, there are still some Siamese cats born with crossed
eyes and kinked tails!

Finished size approx. 15 cm (6 inches).
Materials and tools
You will need:
! Yarn - 2 threads:
1st thread (Lace / 2 ply) – white Kid mohair (250 m/275 yards x 25 g/0.9
ounces) you need - 100 m (110 yards);
2nd thread (Cobweb / 1 ply) – white thin wool or wool mixture (400
m/440 yards - 25 g/0.9 ounces) you need - 100 m (110 yards);
You can use 2 threads of Kid mohair if you don’t have (Cobweb / 1 ply)
white thin wool.

! Heavy round thing such as pebbles, about 4 cm in diameter, to weight the
base. (you can use marbles).
TIP (yarn and wire)
If you use different yarn, the cat will
be bigger or smaller and you will
need more or less yarn and wire than
stated in the pattern (i.e. thicker yarn
will produce a larger cat and you
may require more yarn and wire).
I don’t recommend to use thick yarn
to crochet cat as it may be difficult
to find big marbles for eyes.
! 20 cm (8 inches) of 2 mm diameter copper wire or 1 mm diameter steel
wire.
Tip (wire)
If you don’t want to use two threads you can use yarn that is 450 m/500
yards per 100 g/3.5 ounces thickness (Fingering / 4 ply)
! Hook 1.1 mm or 1.25 mm
! Marbles with one flat side (you can find them in pet shops as ground for
aquarium) - 2 pieces, diameter 1.2-1.4 mm.
! 60 cm (34 inches) of fishing line for whiskers.
! Stuffing: holofiber or padding polyester.
! Tapestry needle for tightenings.
! Plaster adhesive-backed fabric tape.
If you decided to use thicker yarn you
should buy thicker wire as well. The
thicker your yarn the taller the cat would
be. In this case you will need longer
pieces of wire for the wire frame.

! Black bead for the nose 5-6 mm.
! Black acrylic paint for fabric for tinting (optional).

Tip (make it right)
If there are no special notes, the toy is crocheted under both parts
of the loop. In some rows, there are special notes: ‘into the front
loop only’ or ‘into the back loop only’. In such case, you need to
follow these instructions.
When making toys, you should use a
much
smaller
hook
than
recommended for the yarn you chose.
Make sure you crochet tight enough;
otherwise, stuffing will show through
the holes.

Tip how to use acrylic paint for decoration.
Dilute black acrylic paint with water or solvent until it's gray. Take a small piece of sponge and rub the diluted paint
on scrap paper to make sure it's the gray you want, and then rub on ears, tail, eyes and all other areas you want to
paint. Paint your cat in daylight to make sure you have the effect you want, then leave overnight to dry completely.
If you don't have acrylic paint, you can use eye shadow or felt-tip pen of any color you like.
