April 2015 Dear Parents: After the long winter, we now look forward with great anticipation to the coming of spring. It is difficult to believe we are already approaching the end of the 2014-2015 school year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents, faculty, students, and alumnae for their participation in the Chapelle Emerald Gala. This year’s auction was the most successful in the history of Archbishop Chapelle High School. We are happy to report that the profit from the Gala is approximately $125,000, a significant improvement from the $71,000 we raised last year. We must give a special “thank you” to the Gala committee and especially to Mrs. Cindy Wooderson who chaired the auction this year. Cindy’s dedication and love for the girls of Chapelle have been an inspiration to all of us. We would also like to thank all of the parents who participated in this year’s Parents Annual Giving Drive. With Mr. and Mrs. Ed Womach’s $50,000 match, the Drive raised $55,000 from our parents for a total of $105,000, another school record. Remember, every penny raised will be applied to our new state-of-the-art science complex. For those who have not participated, it is not too late to make a donation to the fund. No amount is too small!! As we approach the Easter season, we celebrate the rising of Christ from the grave, following his crucifixion and death. It is a celebration of the conquering of death and the triumph of life. It is a joyous reaffirmation of life. It is our hope that during this holy season of life that all of our girls resolve to be the best they are capable of becoming, to strive for the best in everything they do, to live their lives in a positive manner that will lead to growth and happiness, and to improve the quality of life for all people. On behalf of our faculty and staff, we wish you a happy and holy Easter holiday. Loyal to green and white, John A. Serio Principal Campus Ministry Notes Prayer for Easter: Christ, rising again from the dead dieth now no more: death shall no more have dominion over him; for in that he died, he died once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God, alleluia, alleluia. Let the Jews now tell us, how the soldiers, who guarded the sepulcher, lost the King, though they had placed a rock over him. Why kept they not the Rock of Justice? Why kept they not the Either let them restore the buried One, or adore with us the risen One, saying: But in that he liveth, he liveth unto God, alleluia, alleluia On Friday, March 6th, Nicolette Koll, Jamie Defourneaux, Mallory Knudsen, and Sarah Vicknair participated in Young Women’s Unity Fest IV hosted by The Unity Community of Mount Carmel and Drexel Prep. This year's theme was “Celebrating Yesterday, Growing from Today, Coming Together for Tomorrow.” The afternoon consisted of games, music, fashion, small group sessions, and a guest panel of speakers (Ms. Sarah Denny, Sr. Tracey Dugas, and Ms. Ashley Childs). Thank you to Mount Carmel and Drexel Prep for inviting us to discuss our beauty and the gift of our femininity. Catholic Forensic League Senior Samantha Brouillette won 2nd place in Oral Interpretation at the New Orleans qualifier for the Catholic Forensic League Nationals on March 7th at Newman High School. Tulane Quiz Bowl Quiz Bowl members Brenda Hebert, Emily Vu, Kelli Mejia, Kaitlyn Ranatza, and Sarah Kohoutek represented Chapelle at an all-day tournament held at Tulane University on Saturday, March 14. Investigative Classrooms As the final quarter approaches and after-school activities seem to be increasing, students continue to be engaged in the classroom. Mrs. Filostrat’s World Geography class is just one example. Students recently worked in pairs to investigate a country of their choice to showcase diversity and shed light on different environmental issues around the world. Students made realworld connections to the five themes of geography by researching important facts and unique details about each country. An important feature of this assignment was to highlight both the positive and negative impact of humans on the environment. This allows us to better understand environmental issues and their social, economic, and political implications on a local and global scale. In their final project, students created a poster and gave an oral presentation of their findings. We are looking forward to what the fourth quarter will bring. In one day, students learn exactly what they need to feel prepared for test day. Metarie, LA 70003 PACING Students don’t only receive pacing guidelines; they actually practice timed segments of the ACT throughout the day until they are confident they can achieve the pace they need to succeed. TEST-TAKING STRATEGIES Your students will receive a refresher on the test-taking staples of the process of elimination and making educated guesses, as well as ACT-specific score-boosting secrets. For instance, most math figures are actually drawn to scale, and on the English test, if it sounds wrong, it probably is wrong. CONTENT The philosophy that drives MasteryPrep’s ACT Boot Camp effectiveness is that content is king: Students actually have to learn something in order to make significant ACT score improvements, and our ACT Boot Camp is no exception. Students learn and practice essential skills tested in the English, math, reading, and science segments of the ACT. ACT BOOT CAMP WORKBOOK Every student receives the new ACT Boot Camp workbook, which they work in throughout the workshop and take home afterwards for additional practice before test day. Book Now! Parents, please encourage your daughter to find a quiet time to study without the distraction of her cell phone, get adequate sleep on school nights, seek extra help from her teachers when needed, and set long term goals. Scheduling for the 2015-2016 School Year Parents and students who had questions about course selections as noted on the course selection sheets that were returned to school will be contacted by May 8th. Real Love Week Real Love Week, from Monday, March 2 – Friday, March 6, is an opportunity to focus on the satisfying love of Christ and on how all other love should be rooted in that perfect love of Our Lord. The week began with Chapelle’s daily prayer, which was centered on scripture that spoke of unbridled and perfect love. The Women of Christ Club ensured these scripture verses were everywhere to be seen by the entire school, posting them on every locker, in every hallway, classroom, and everywhere in between. While many other activities took place over the course of the week, the highlight was on Friday, March 6th, when the Women of Christ Club hosted a Real Love Panel; which consisted of Sr. Tracey Dugas, Miss Sarah Denny (class of 2007), and Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Dessauer. Mrs. Jessie Dupuy, moderator of the Women of Christ Club, wrote an article about the Women of Christ Club for the Clarion Herald that was published on March 17. She remarked: “As a panel of witnesses to Christ’s love shown through various vocations as well as stages in life, their powerful testimony to Christ’s love was one that was both genuine and challenging.” At the conclusion of the panel, almost 30 students met in our chapel for a Purity Commitment Ceremony. The girls joined together to pray as a community and say “yes” to their dignity as women. Mrs. Dupuy commented: “The graces that the Lord blessed Archbishop Chapelle with over the course of Real Love Week were beautiful, and we continue to pray that they will penetrate the hearts of our entire Chapelle family.” John Georges at Chapelle On Monday, March 2, Mr. John Georges addressed the student body to share his life story and inspire our students to work hard to achieve their goals. A New Orleans native, Tulane graduate, prominent businessman, and philanthropic leader, Mr. Georges is the publisher of The Advocate and chairman of Georges Enterprises. Mr. Georges is a role model for giving back to one’s community and a proud supporter of strengthening community through excellent education and Catholic ideals. 2015 Archbishop Chapelle Athletics Wed 5/13 2014-15 ATHLETIC AWARDS NIGHT 7:00pm Remaining Softball Schedule Wed 4/1 Tues 4/7 Wed 4/8 Thurs 4/9 4/10-11 Tues 4/14 Wed 4/15 Wed 4/15 Gym Northshore Mt.
