Welcome to our May newsletter. As ever,
there is much going on to tell you about.
Plans for the Village Fete on the 11th July
are moving on well, with a really interesting
mix of activities, games and social events
planned for the day. Tickets are also on
sale now for the traditional barn dance that
will round off the day. Likewise, our first
Beer & Cider Festival on 11th and 12th of
September is shaping up nicely. There is
also a welcome return of the charity clay
pigeon shoot organised by Stuart, Richard
& Karl. I can also confirm that the grant
application to resurface the car park has
now been submitted to Viridor Credits and
we are hopeful of a positive decision by
mid June. Thank you to everyone who
supported the application.

ones for the hall, with more people
using it than ever before, diverse
activities, improving finances, reduced
costs and some really innovative ideas
for the future.
The trustees have
worked hard to achieve this, and we
are very conscious that we do so on
behalf of all village residents. That is
why we are keen to ensure we get a
good turnout on June 15th for our
Annual General Meeting (AGM). It is
your opportunity to find out what’s
going on, ask questions, check out the
finances and elect trustees, so don’t
miss out, put the date in your diary now
and join us for a cup of tea and a cake
on the 15th, we’d love to see you there.
The last twelve months have been good
Best regards Ian

TO
10 TH J ULY 2015
The competition is open to everyone in the village, young and
old - individuals and families. Make your entry eye catching
and perhaps a little wacky!
 You will be given a number to display on your
scarecrow; this number will be used on the voting form.
All application forms should be handed to Lynne
Roberts at 8 Keeys Close or by email, (see below) by
Friday 19th June.
You can make your scarecrow in any style; this can be a
cartoon character, your favourite TV, film or sport personality.
Scarecrows should be in position in your front gardens for the
start of judging by villagers from 10am on Saturday 4th July.
Judging will continue up until 6pm on Friday 10th July. Voting forms
will be delivered to everyone by the end of June.
A prize will be given to the owner of the winning crow at the Fete
on 11th July. All entrants will receive a certificate which will
include a photograph of their Scarecrow.
Rules:
 Your scarecrow must be made from scratch and be well made
and be able to withstand all weather conditions.
 It should be a maximum height of 1.8m.
 Your entry may be a single scarecrow, a family or a group.
 You can include an element of plant material which can be dried,
fresh or living.
 You are encouraged to use recycled materials.
 You may use props or accessories to enhance your scarecrow.
Suggestion for Scarecrow making (basic design)
 1 x batten or think piece of wood/broom handle about 2m long (6ft)
 1x batten about 1m long (3ft)
 1 x batten about 30cm long (12 inches)
 Old clothes & an old pair of tights
 Stuffing material – newspaper, bin bags/carrier bags, bubble
wrap etc.
 String
1. Tie the 1m stake to the 2m stake, about 15cm from one
end, in a cross shape and then tie the other stake in the
same way about half way down.
2. For head - fill firmly a carrier bag/bin liner with
newspaper and make a ball shape or cover an inflated
balloon with papier-mâché, make face and tie to top of stake.
3. Stuff a pair of tights with newspaper/straw (this forms the body and legs) and
attach to your stake with string.
4. Now you can dress you crow.
