Artist Jeremy Marlow will fill the space of ArtHaus with his
painted portraits that capture light and color in an awe-inspiring
manner. A graduate of the University of Iowa and long-time
educator, Marlow now lives and creates on the outskirts of
Decorah. ArtHaus is thrilled to present this work during the Taste
of Winneshiek County (TWC) event; more info on TWC available

About Nothing, set in a prosperous Italian villa, sparkles
with the blossom of new love, and the famous battle of wits
between Beatrice and Benedick. Though a shadow is cast by the
machinations of jealous Don John, all wrongs are righted and
happiness wins the day in this 90 minute production performed
by the young actors (age 14-18) of Upstart Crow Theatreworks.

Most writing happens in solitude,
as you put words on the page,
hoping it all comes together.
But there comes a point when
you wonder, “Is this even working? How can I make it better?”
In this course we will discuss techniques for improving your
stories, whether fiction or nonfiction. Topics include character
development, narrative arc, pacing, and making writing fun. We
will discuss how to know when a piece is finished. For beginners
or advanced. All welcome.

In this introductory drawing class, you will set aside your
trepidation as you learn to bring to life on paper what you see in
front of you. Students will observe and draw from both still lives
and live models, exploring a variety of media including charcoal
and pencil as well as chalk and oil pastels. New and returning
students, ages 16 +, welcome.
DRAWING WITH ZEN

INSTRUCTOR: John Synder

This 6-week class will develop the natural talent of each individual
student with an exploration on the expressive potential of line
drawing, with a strong emphasize on portrait studies. Traditional
drawing materials such as pencil, chalk, and ink, as well as
occasional audio inspiration from, the self-described ‘spiritual
entertainer’, Alan Watts, will be our means towards finding
enlightenment from simple marks on paper. No prior experience
needed, ages 16+ welcome
PAPIER MACHE SCULPTURE
DATE: March 17-April 21 (ADT6)
INSTRUCTOR: Eric Petersen-Brant

Our imaginations come to life as we design and create lightweight
and environmentally friendly sculpture. Using recycled paper,
we will explore different molding and sculpting techniques, and
learn about the nearly infinite possibilities of papier mache as a
sculptural material. Participants will create several sculptures over
the 5-week period, depending on the complexity and scale of each
piece. Ages 16+ welcome.
FRENCH FOR BEGINNERS

New to French? Want to review long-ago learned French lessons?
Explore basic vocabulary and fundamental sentence structures

AM ART STUDIO
An art exploration class designed for children who are ready
to make the transition to attending a class independently, in
addition to exploring new art materials and techniques that
will expand their hand-eye coordination and social skills. Easel
painting, homemade play-dough (gluten-free), mixed media
collage, and watercolor resist drawings are a few of the tools and
methods they will choose from during their time in a professional
art studio.

EXPLORING THE MASTERS II

See the world through the eyes of O’Keefe, Warhol, Monet,
Mondrian, Klimt, and Cassatt, just to name a few. Each week,
we’ll explore a different artist’s style by examining examples of
their most famous works, and then create our own masterpieces!
Using everything from watercolors and chalks to tempera paint
and oil pastels, we’ll create our own gallery of work you’ll want to
frame!
ART AROUND THE WORLD

order thinking through cross-curricular education focusing on
kite making, masks, rain sticks and many more fun filled projects
to come!

JEWELRY MAKERS

Learn to create necklaces, bracelets, and other wearable art with
wire, found materials, and a variety of beads, many of which we
will make ourselves from paper, clay, and more. All materials
and tools provided.
TAKING TO THE SKIES
DATE: March 28-May 9 (no class April 4) (YTH12)
TIME: Saturdays, 2-3:30pm
INSTRUCTOR: Eric Petersen-Brant
COST: $70 + $35 materials
LOCATION: ArtHaus Studio
Set your spirit free with creative kite building! Explore and
construct several different kite structures while learning about
basic aerodynamics and modeling techniques. The class will
conclude with the fabrication and embellishment of a single
larger kite that will take flight in a public display during the final
class on May 9.

Dive into the world of Shakespeare’s poetry and discover why actors
love to perform his plays. Develop and hone acting skills, create
a character (maybe two), and bring one of Shakespeare’s wittiest
and most beloved comedies to life. Upstart Crow Theatreworks
productions are cast by registration rather than audition but due
to casting limitations not everyone who registers may be accepted.

Shakespeare’s words come alive as we dive into the world of
Elizabethan England and learn the skills needed to lift these
amazing characters off the page and onto the stage. Previous
acting experience is helpful but not required as we rehearse scenes

funds and awareness by painting the story of how cancer

June 6 at the Decorah Public High School. All materials

creative evening at ArtHaus with a Paint Party, taught
by our fabulous instructor, Annie Adams. Each paint
party will explore a different well-known artist, and with
step-by-step instruction, have you creating a painting in
their style to take home with you. No painting experience
is needed. Easels, aprons, paint, brushes, canvas, and
instructions are provided. Registration details available at

ArtHaus requires that you make partial or full payment to hold your spot at the time of registration. For
visual art classes, camps or workshops the materials fee must be pre-paid as a deposit to hold your spot.
If the class is cancelled due to low enrollment (a minimum of four students are needed to run a class),
participants will receive a full refund for any payments made. If participants choose to withdraw from the
class or workshop due to scheduling conflicts or otherwise after the class has begun, a partial refund will
be given for classes the student can no longer attend. However, the materials fee will not be refunded. If
tuition assistance is needed please call, email or download an application form from our website. Register
