Rnd5: Ch2, 1dc in same st as join, *1dc in next 2

9” plastic canvas circle

Rnd6: Ch2, 1dc in same st as join, *1dc in next 3
sts, 2dc in the next st, repeat from * up to last 3
sts, 1dc in each of last 3 sts, join to beginning ch
– 80 sts.
Rnd7: Ch2, 1dc in same st as join, *1dc in next 4
sts, 2dc in the next st, repeat from * up to last 4
sts, 1dc in each of last 4 sts, join to beginning ch
– 96 sts.
Rnd8 – 9: Ch2, 1dc in each st around, join to
beginning ch.
Rnd10: Ch2, 1dc in each of next 5 sts, dec, *1dc in
each of next 6 sts, dec, rpt from * around, join to
beginning ch – 84 sts.
Rnd 11: Ch2, 1dc in each st around, join to
beginning ch.
Rnd12: Ch2, 1dc in each of next 4 sts, dec, *1dc in
each of next 5 sts, dec, rpt from * around, join to
beginning ch – 72 sts.
Rnd 13: Ch2, 1dc in each st around, join to
beginning ch.
Gauge: 13 sts and 7 rows = 4” in dc

Band:
Rnds14 - 20: Ch1, 1sc in each st around.
Cut yarn and fasten off.
Top Brim:
With the right side facing you, attach the yarn in
the 20th stitch to the left of the join on rnd 20.
R1: 1sc in the frount loop of the same st as the join
and in the front loops of the next 31 sts, turn –
32 sts.
R2: Ch1, 1sc in the first st, dec, 1sc in each stitch
up to the last 3 sts, dec, 1sc in the last st, turn –
30 sts.
R3 – 11: Repeat row 2 until there are 14 sts left.
R12: Skip the 1st stitch, dec, 1sc in each stitch up to
the last 3 sts, dec, slip stitch in the last stitch.
Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

Crown:
Note: Beginning ch2 counts as 1 dc.
Rnd1: Ch3, 11dc in 3rd ch from hook, join to top of
beginning ch – 12 sts.
Rnd2: Ch2, 1dc in same st as join, *2dc in next st,
repeat from * around, join to beginning ch – 24
sts.
Rnd3: Ch2, 1dc in same st as join, *1dc in next st,
2dc in the next st, repeat from * up to last st,
1dc in last st, join to beginning ch – 36 sts.
Underneath Brim:
With the wrong side of the band facing you, attach
the yarn in the unused loop on rnd 20 at the right
edge of the brim, 1sc in the 1st loop and in each

of the next 31 loops – 32 sts.
Repeat row 2 – 11 of the top brim.
Cut a piece from the 9” plastic canvas round to fit
inside the brim. Attach the yarn at the back of
the band on round 20, 1sc in each stitch up to
the brim, insert the plastic piece, 1sc in each
stitch of the brim. Continue around the hat to the
beginning of the round, join with a slip stitch.
Cut the yarn. Pull the end through the last stitch
and weave in any ends.
Button Band:
Ch40, turn.
Rnd1: 1sc in one loop of the 2nd ch and in each of
the next 37 chs, 3sc in the last chain. Rotate the
work clockwise and work 1sc in each of the 37
chains on the opposite edge up to the end, 2sc
in the same ch as the 1st st, join, – 80 sts. Do not
turn the work. Continue in rounds.
Rnd2: Working in the back loops, 1sc in the 1st st,
and each of the next 38 sts, ch7, skip 2 sts, work
1sc in each of the next 37 sts, ch7, skip 2 sts,
join to the 1st stitch.
Rnd 3: Ch1, 1sc in the 1st stitch and in each stitch
and chain around – 96 sts. Cut the yarn, pull the
end through the last loop, and weave in the ends.
Stitch the mid point of the button band over the
join area at the back of the hat band.
Try on the hat and pull the button band slightly to
see where to place the buttons. Sew the buttons
onto the hat band and the side of the brim.
