Development for Special Education Teachers
The Australian Schools Special Education Colloquium offers a timely forum for Special Education teachers throughout
Queensland to connect on a regular basis and share vital information. By offering a forum exclusively reserved for Special
Education teachers the Colloquium creates a space to discuss current challenges and consider important issues surrounding
the future of Special Education in Queensland.
Australian Schools Special Education Colloquium
Developed under the highly acclaimed National Excellence in School Leadership Initiative (NESLI), the Australian Schools
Special Education Colloquium is informed and guided by unprecedented collaboration between education sector
stakeholders and leading Australian universities.
The Colloquium is rapidly becoming one of the countries most talked about development programs. Run in convenient
bite-size modules over an extended ten month period the Colloquium is designed to align with teachers existing schedules
and commitments. Utilising a state-of-the-art on-line learning management system and interactive web portal the program
offers the opportunity to undertake comprehensive professional development without the additional consideration of costly
backfill arrangements or time away from the classroom.
Focusing on the critical dimensions of effective performance the program covers seven major themes:
• Leadership and Authenticity
• Communication, Presence and Influence
• Team Dynamics
• Driving Performance
• Leading Innovation and Change
• Thinking Strategically
• Purpose, Priorities and Professional Development
Designed to rapidly develop leadership capability, the Colloquium also represents a powerful platform for positively
impacting classroom learning. Facilitated group discussion, drawing on the experiences of participants, ensures that student
learning and educational enhancement remain top of mind. The program equips participants with the insights, skills and
confidence to accelerate their own development as they simultaneously strengthen the performance of their peers and their
students.
