JUSTICE
Friday, 15 May 2015 St Dominic’s Prayer
May God, Creator, bless us.
May God, Redeemer, heal us.
May God, holy Wisdom, fill us with light.
God, give us eyes to see you, and ears to hear your voice.
God give us minds to know your will,
and hands to work for justice.
God give us feet to journey, and a mouth to preach the word of Salvation.
And may your angel
watch over us in peace,
then in the goodness of your love,
direct us home to heaven.
Amen.
Dear Parents
The above prayer was prayed at both Year 11 2016 Welcome Information Evenings over the past two
weeks. This prayer to St Dominic features often when we gather to celebrate.
Apology
Last Friday a Mother’s Day Prayer was sent via email to parents. An error occurred and an attachment
was inadvertently included by mistake. Please accept my sincerest apologies for any distress or offense this may have caused. Unfortunately in a not so perfect world mistakes sometimes occur and our
best intentions are lost. Sincerely Elizabeth Cornwall.
Transition
Over the coming months our new cohort of Year 11 students will be making some big decisions about
their Stage 6 Learning. Our present students have already shown great leadership in their support of
our new to be students which has been wonderful to see. We thank them very much for this support.

Flood Update
Students have shown great patience as areas and classrooms are still drying out after the recent
inundation from the super storm.
With continued sunny weather the field will be available for use next week which will allow students to spread out a bit more during breaks.
The damaged buildings will be fixed over the coming months.
Donation
On Wednesday evening I attended East’s Leisure and Gold Club for their annual Club Grants
function. Mayor Peter Blackmore indicated that the Club was giving back to the community via
these grants a total of $180,000. St Mary’s was a recipient of one of these cheques so thank you
to the Club and no doubt to patrons who have supported the club to make such grants available.
Formal
A note has been sent home via email to all Year 12 parents regarding the cost, venue and expectations including a timeline for payments for the 2015 Year 12 Formal.
Please read this information carefully and if you have any issues please do not hesitate to contact
the Formal Committee or myself. If you do not have access to a computer/printer please come to
Student Services for a paper copy of this information.
The next Formal Committee meeting is at 6pm which is before the P & F Meeting on 2nd June.

Mother’s Day High Tea
Apologies to everyone who has been looking forward to the Mother’s Day High Tea. Due to the flood/
storm damage in the Trade Training Centre building, particularly in the café dining area and adjacent
classroom, we have postponed this until the venue is more able to accommodate such an event.
Not to be defeated however, we have been operating our morning café, although with more of an industrial ‘behinds the scenes’ atmosphere. Great hot chocolates, but limited seating available!

Pastoral Care
Happiness has a lot to do with the way we perceive ourselves and our environment. Even in times of
adversity when being happy may seem almost impossible, we can take steps to help ourselves feel just
that little bit more positive. Harvard research has recently released a study that outlines 7 ways that
we can assist ourselves in being happier. These include:
Meditating, or taking some quiet time for yourself.
Finding something to look forward to, so that when you are having trouble being positive you have
something to focus on.
Go out of your way to perform an act of kindness for another person.
Do your best to spend time in positive environments.
Exercising regularly.
Spending time and money on experiences instead of material items.
Spend time using your talents.

No, it's not Christmas!
It's Australia’s Annual Budget Reveal!! A day which economists right across the country spend
clinging to the edge of their seats and biting at what's left of their nails in great anticipation for the
evening's proceedings.
But of course, no economists were more excited than those of us right here in Maitland! Mr "Ca$h
Money" Moore's Year 12 HSC Economics class chose to celebrate this momentous occasion in
style! And what better way to celebrate than by throwing a party, a Budget Party of course! Like all
good parties, it would not have been complete without a cake! A cake which featured the one and
only man of the moment himself, Treasurer Joe Hockey!
As we indulged ourselves in the vanilla flavoured masterpiece we reviewed the coverage of
Tuesday night’s big reveal, the highlight of which being, our hero, Alan Kohler's insights and views
on Australian Politics’ night of nights. This was followed by a series of friendly class banter,
discussing the pros and cons of Hockey's hopeful plans for our nation. It was indeed a truly historic
moment for Economics in Australia!
