The Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation along with Athletics at the University of Alberta, have come together to develop an event to help raise funds for our female student-athletes. Over the past two years, this tournament has raised over $100,000 dollars, equating to 35 scholarships for our Pandas student-athletes. Funds raised help to alleviate the financial burden of female student-athletes and allows them to focus in the classroom and on the playing field. This unique women’s only tournament will take place on Wednesday, June 03, 2015 at 2 PM at The Links at Spruce Grove. A shot gun Texas Scramble format will allow 144 female (or more) golfers to take part in the event with light lunch and dinner/silent auction - featuring current and past Panda student athletes who will talk about their experience as a University of Alberta Panda. Financial support is greatly needed each year, with our Pandas program only receiving roughly 40% in Athletic Financial Awards based on CIS restrictions. By creating special fundraising initiatives specifically directed at the Pandas Athletic Program, we can help close the gap between funding discrepancies between men and women here at the University of Alberta. This year the Women Fore Pandas Golf Tournament is partnering with the Green and Gold Athletics Society and the University of Alberta Provost’s Office in a matching program which could potentially see an additional $20,000 raised and given directly towards student-athlete scholarships for the University of Alberta Pandas We are seeking sponsorship commitments from individuals and businesses through opportunities such as; Dinner Sponsor, Hole Sponsors, prizing and auction items. Funds generated by the tournament will go towards supporting female student-athletes at the University of Alberta. These young women are not only talented athletes, but also strong role models and leaders in the community.
