WHAT IS ATTACHMENT THEORY?
Attachment is the way children seek closeness and a
connection to others who will protect, comfort, and/or
help manage their feelings. Children need caregivers to
be older, wiser, protective and calm.
difficulties. Understanding a child’s attachment style
allows us to see that many behaviour problems cannot
be remedied until the child feels that they are safe and
secure with their primary attachment figure (parent,
grandparent, relative, foster parent, etc.).
Healthy attachment allows individuals to utilize a variety
of attachment strategies in the most appropriate way.
Unhealthy attachment leads to many behavioural
Attachment therapy seeks to find the source of a child’s
anxiety/behaviour issues and remedy it by helping
parents create a safe and secure relationship.

Course Facilitator: Fr. Yozefu B. Ssemakula
Pre-requisites: None
Length: 1 Day, 9:00am—4:30pm (exact end time may vary)
A typical family has problems. If you believe in God you have
most certainly prayed to God about many of these problems.
And maybe you have had the joy of answered prayer for some,
some respite for others, but there are still those problems that
don't seem to go anywhere! Your image of God is seriously
shaken because you don't understand why He doesn't seem to
hear you on these particular issues. This workshop addresses
these serious issues and is inspired by his book, “The Healing
of Families”. Fr. Ssemakula presents a simple, effective, and
powerful prayer method for freeing you and your family from
problems you have prayed about for a long time without
results, including health issues.

THE DYNAMIC MATURATION
MODEL of ATTACHMENT (DMM)
Dr. Patricia Crittenden has developed a developmental sequence of assessments of attachment and self-protective strategy. All are tied to
the Dynamic Maturational Model (DMM) of
attachment. She and her colleagues offer several
courses that teach these methods. The Attachment and Psychopathology course is an overview of the DMM and is prerequisite for the
other courses.
ATTACHMENT and PSYCHOPATHOLOGY
Pre-requisites: None
Length: 1 Day. 9:00am—4:30pm (exact end time may vary)
This course introduces the Dynamic-Maturational Model
(DMM) of attachment and ties it to risk assessment and treatment. The course describes an array of patterns of attachment relationships and strategies for self-protection. The
course focuses on development from infancy to adulthood
(including old age). It emphasizes the process of adaptation
and those developmental pathways that carry risk for psychopathology. At each age, the approaches to prevention and
treatment are considered.

Technology has made tremendous advances in the past century and throughout this time parents have tried to keep up.
Each generation of children was born into a whole new world

Most become aware that something is not right when minor
irritations are no longer minor, when angry responses are out
of proportion to the situation. This workshop will help participants develop an understanding of what lies at the core of
our anger and how to manage it, and how to get back in
synch with our inner peace.

Course Facilitator: Vic Unruh BA BRS, Cert. Ed., Pre-Med

We have all heard that little voice inside of us that is too willing to remind us of how much of a failure we really are. The
inner critic has kept track of all our past mistakes and is only
too eager to remind us of them. The inner critic is happiest
when we doubt ourselves and our decisions, and, works hard
to keep us in our place all in the guise of ‘protecting’ us from
getting hurt. The inner critic often has a familiar voice – father, mother, sibling Participants are invited to take a journey
of self-exploration through discussion, activities and homework assignments.

SIBSHOPS
Course Facilitator: Julie Walsh, BA, MSW, PAA Reliable Coder,
SAA
Pre-requisites: None
Length: TBD
Sibshops are workshops for the brothers and sisters of kids
with special needs which bring these ‘sibs’ together in two
languages that are universal to all children: play and shared
experience. Utilizing a highly engaging and recreational
approach, Sibshops provide peer support for the typically
developing siblings by offering a venue for such children to
celebrate themselves and their families. Sibshops take a wellness approach by recognizing that most families of children
with special needs are healthy and resilient, thus Sibshops are
not group therapy but the results may be therapeutic.

relationship issues

Course Facilitator: Vic Unruh BA BRS, Cert. Ed., Pre-M.Ed.
Pre-requisites: None
Length: TBD
We are all in relationships of one sort or another. Relationships bring pleasure and security, and, frustration and hurt.
The deeper the relationship, the deeper we experience any or
all of these qualities. When hurt and frustration begin to outbalance pleasure and security in a personal relationship this
often leads to fear, feeling wounded and a loss in self-worth.
And this has an effect on other relationships at work, in our
families and community. Participants will unravel the mystery
of relationships that no longer provide security, pleasure and
joy in the same way can lead to a greater understanding of self
and of others and, ultimately, healing.
