There are many definitions of a medical spa; it can be a wellness centre, a doctor’s
office with spa services, or a spa with medical exams and anti-aging treatments.
The medical spa of today focuses on total beauty and wellness with maintenance
and prevention. Doctors are discovering that spa services are beneficial to their
patients for relaxation, to relieve anxiety, and also medically beneficial for pre
and post-surgery. Physicians and estheticians can learn from each other while
working as a team to mutually benefit their clients.
The term "Medical Spa” is loosely defined as those less complicated, mainly
cosmetic medical procedures that must be performed by appropriately licensed
personnel and delivered in a consumer indulgent environment.
Common examples of such services include cosmetic injectables, laser hair removal,
skin rejuvenation, microdermabrasion, photo facial with intense pulsed light (IPL)
skin tightening, body contouring, tattoo removal, laser resurfacing and a complete
range of wellness services. Medical spa services may be offered alone or in conjunction with more traditional spa services, facials, manicures, pedicures, massage,

developed business models relative to distribution, education and retail sectors
focused on beauty, wellness and preventative health. Jean acts as director of
business and strategic planning for Avyonce Academy.

DR. SHIHAB, LASER SPECIALIST INSTRUCTOR
Dr. Shihab’s passion for lasers has taken him from a high
profile medical career as a general surgeon to an indepth
scientific researcher. He bagan his career in lasers in the early 1990’s with
research and development teams in Germany and the USA. Dr. Shihab settled in
Canada and started working with our previous college in 2003, and joined the
new Avyonce Academy which opened in 2014. As part of the faculty he helped
establised one of the first educational institutions in Canada specializing in
the safe and effective use of laser technology in aesthetic medicine.
