Goodbye Garbage (continued) …and see what other ways she refines her lifestyle. American’s only make up five percent of the world’s population, yet account for around 30 percent of the worlds garbage. Imagine if all of us could be like Lauren Signer, and start this zero-waste lifestyle. Only having a Mason jar full of garbage for two whole years of living; we could take that thirty percent and turn it into something to be proud of. Now, I’m not saying we should go to the extreme lengths of Signer’s devotion and completely take certain things out of our lives, but we can all do something to help. If we just recycle and reuse as much as we can, we can reduce the amount of garbage we make down astonishingly. Simply by changing our lifestyles a little bit, we can all change the world. - Jeyda B. Take a careful look at the image on the right. What do you see? Is it a chameleon? Sure looks like it. Johannes Stötter, an Italian artist created this image. Look closer, it is a photograph, but not of a chameleon… Visit the website to post what it really is. The first person to post the correct answer wins a prize. Phineas and Ferb: Act Your Age The Phineas and Ferb Show ends with a colorful episode Act Your Age. This episode is about Phineas and Ferb and they are 18 years old ( including his friends) and have just finished school and are thinking about applying for a college in summer. On the other side, Candice is in Law school impressing the professors while Monogram is retired and relaxing on beach. Karl is in place of Monogram and Perry gets an assignment with Doofenshmirtz trying to destroy the Tri-State. Veronica(the daughter of Doofenshmirtz) and Isabella are present in the episode as girlfriends for Phineas and Ferb. The interesting part is that these people look older than before which changes who they are. This episode was the best way to end Phineas and Ferb like a cherry on top of a cake. Also, this episode is available on YouTube for free and here is the link down below. By: Supritaa M.S. "Splash Bro" Sprains Ankle Look for next week’s article about how Mrs. Bradley’s Language Arts classes are going to help the entire school get in the spirit for National Poetry Month! Klay Thompson was on a drive to the basket in the third quarter of Monday night's 108 to 105 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. While the win was fun, Thompson received some troubling news: he had sprained his ankle and that he would not be able to play for the next 7 to 10 days. This could be upsetting to the Golden State Warriors in their upcoming game against the Pelicans. -‐DOMINIQUE M. Imagine, never having to take out the trash, never having to separate your recycling, and never having to worry about that horrible odor it’ll get after a while. Anyone can live a life like this, and people all across the world actually are. One girl, 23year-old Lauren Singer, has taken it upon herself to spread the word about this type of lifestyle to everyone she can. It is called the zero-waste lifestyle. Signer is immaculate at following this zero-waste lifestyle, probably because she is an environmental studies major at NYU. She said that she felt like such a “hypocrite” for promoting lifestyles such as these, but never actually following them herself. However, all that changed two years ago, when she finally stepped up to the plate, and she has never looked back since. Over this time period, she has accumulated only a tiny Mason jar full of garbage. Can you believe it? The woman has only a small jar full of garbage for two years of living! It’s incredible! Night Vision: Superhero Fiction or Super-Awesome Reality? Sure, you’ve heard of night vision goggles. Maybe you imagined that one day they could shrink the technology down into contacts, but have you ever dreamed that you could see in the dark without technology? As a kid, you may have heard, “eat lots of carrots and you’ll see better at night.” That’s true, but it won’t give you night vision. However, a group of rogue scientists called “Science for the Masses” harvested a chemical (Chlorin e6) from fish, mixed it with saline solution, and worked through other more complicated scientific processes to create new eye drops that, despite making people look slightly creepy, gives you night vision! This has gone through human testing with very promising results, but it isn’t proven to be 100% safe yet. Still, this could be an epic new scientific breakthrough, by a renegade group of scientists. What is the secret to her success you ask? No plastic. Lauren has completely rid plastic from nearly all of her everyday home items. She makes her own lotion, toothpastes, and even soaps from all natural and organic items she has in her own house. She even puts all of these things into reusable glass jars (mason jars). Anything that will eventually go in a landfill when she’s done with it, gone. Whatever she doesn't fit into that little Mason jar of trash, she reuses in her everyday life. Simply by getting rid of the plastic in her life, such as plastic water bottles, plastic wrappings, plastic bags, and plastic surgery, she has been able to reduce the amount of garbage she produces drastically. You can follow up on what she does on her blog- “Trash is for Toddlers” (continued on back) Our website, AWActionNews.weebly.com, is easily accessible through a link on the school homepage.
