It’s Alive! Making Monsters—Kate Cunningham

This workshop offers an introduction to the papermaking process, including how to pull
sheets of paper, as well as various papermaking and artistic techniques. This workshop
includes a demonstration, viewing of Jane Bresser’s paper works, and hands-on
experimentation.
Saturday, June 27th Bonsai: Soju Trident Maple Workshop– Tim Weckman
1-5pm Adult Workshop: Ages 16 & Up

Soju is a Japanese term for two bonsai trees in a single pot. The goal of this workshop is
to integrate two individual trees into a pleasing and related whole. We will be using
Trident maple trees in this exercise. Tridents are among the most favored deciduous
species for bonsai as they are strong growers, are long lived and have excellent fall color.
We will start with an introduction to Bonsai and specifically Soju concepts and spend the
majority of the class time building and perfecting our compositions.

Explore the world of silk painting with Shari Lauter of ShariSilks! Create memorable and

this one-day workshop we will focus on the art of photographing food. We will explore
camera techniques such as lighting, angle, and depth-of-field to make your photographs
look good enough to eat. We will also investigate some tricks of the trade employed to
help food jump of the page and into your mouth.

making and invoke our inner artists as we blend natural colors and scents for handcrafted soap bars. Lavender soap with moisturizing olive oil? A cleansing lemongrass
with exfoliating oatmeal? Our homemade soap recipe contains all natural ingredients,
makes a lovely gift and is wonderful for those of us with sensitive skin. (Class fee includes
all materials; participants will take home 9-10 bars of soap at end of workshop series).

Three Fridays Japanese Ink Greeting Cards– Beth Schott

1-3pm Students will learn to create unique illustrated greeting cards with the media of ink.
Experiment with walnut and vermillion inks as you learn special techniques- such as
designing and creating your own Hanko stamp. Hanko stamps are traditionally used in
Japan as a special official signature, carved out of soap stone.

1-3pm If you love to work with textiles, this will be unusually fun for you. We will start with a
base of unbleached muslin and then add many different layers of textures will all kinds of
