Internship Opening Bank on Human Rights Coalition Human Rights and Development Finance Internship Summer 2015 The Bank on Human Rights Coalition is seeking exceptionally motivated and organized law students, graduate students, and undergraduate students for the opportunity to gain experience in human rights and development advocacy. The internship is based in Washington, DC. Time commitment is flexible, though a minimum of 16 hours a week is required. The internship will start May or June 2015, with a minimum commitment of 10 weeks. Due to limited resources, internships/externships are unpaid. BHRC is happy to work with accepted interns to seek course credit for their work. Bank on Human Rights Bank on Human Rights is a global coalition of social movements, civil society organizations, and grassroots groups working to ensure that all development finance institutions respect, protect, and fulfill human rights. Bank on Human Rights works to support members’ advocacy at the local, national, and international level. The Coalition is currently engaged in advocacy and mobilization to strengthen human rights protections at the World Bank, the development of tools for human rights impact assessment, research and analysis on development finance and human rights, capacity-building with community groups, NGOs and human rights institutions, as well as outreach and coalition-building. Intern Responsibilities and Qualifications The content of the internship and specific intern responsibilities and will be shaped to fit the interests and skills of the applicant. Duties may include: research and writing on trends in development finance and human rights; preparation of case studies on development projects; communications work, such as blog writing, tweeting, and basic website updating; monitoring of media; logistics planning for events; attending and reporting on BHRC calls and meetings; assisting with production of materials; translation of materials; database management and other administrative duties. Successful applicants generally possess excellent research and writing skills and a strong interest in human rights and/or development. Additional language skills are highly desirable but not required. BHRC actively seeks applicants with diverse backgrounds.
