New Zealand, with over 21 years experience
in the tile industry and a nationwide network of resellers.
Our years in the industry have brought partnerships with
major ceramic and porcelain tile manufacturers in Italy,
Spain, Turkey, UAE and across Asia. Through these
partnerships we are able to offer the latest tile trends,
colours, design ideas and prices to match any budget
for both commercial & residential interiors and exteriors.
We hold one of the largest stocks of tiles in New
Zealand, with at least 200,000m2 in our Auckland
warehouse in over 500 different styles! So we are able

Free design consultation services are offered in all
Heritage Tile stores in Auckland and Wellington. Our
design consultants work with customers from providing
design advice to coordinating custom tiling projects.

SELECTING THE RIGHT TILES
Floor and wall tiles
Floor tiles have higher mechanical strength than wall
tiles. Therefore, wall tiles should not be used for the floor,
although floor tiles may be used on walls.
Bathroom
There are no rules with what you can and cannot put on the
floor and walls in a bathroom. If you have a south facing
bathroom with minimal light, you should consider warm
colours rather than anything too heavy and cold feeling.
Residential Interior
Kitchen
We cater for all types of kitchens – residential and
commercial. Our sales teams will assist in selecting floor,
wall and splashback combinations that will suit your needs
while complementing your kitchen units.
Glass mosaics and glossy bright wall tiles add interest to a
splashback design while being easy to keep clean. Floor
tiles should be easy to keep clean and be stain resistant.
Entry, foyer, living and dining
These are generally busy high foot traffic areas. Tiles
are perfect for these types of areas as they are easy to
maintain and unlike other soft finishes, are more resilient
to food spills, dirt and day to day living. Polished, matt or
satin finishes are ideal for these areas. Choose tiles that
compliment your space and soft furnishings.
Depending on the size of your area, choose a tile size
and colour that will enhance the space. If you have a high
ceiling with lots of natural light, you may want to look at
a large format tile in contemporary earthy or grey tones;
if your ceiling is of an average height, you may want to
consider a light or warm tone to give the feeling of greater
space.

A mix of polished tiles on the walls and matt or satin on
the floor are a timeless classic option. There is no reason
though, why you cannot tile both the floor and wall with
polished porcelain if you love the look and wish to continue
the flow from floor to wall. Our teams can guide you with

Mosaics - glass & stone, are extremely popular as a full wall
design or simple splashback behind your vanity or in the
wet area of your shower and bath façade. A simple design
introducing a mosaic adds instant wow factor.
Exterior
Tiles are highly suitable for external areas, as they are
durable and can withstand the effects of water, detergents,
oil and dirt from vehicles.
Exterior tiles have a grip textured feel that offer low-slip
options for pathways, entrances, decks and pool surrounds.
They are also perfect for barbecue areas as they are easy
to keep clean, being resilient to grease and spillages.
We have many different options available from stone look
porcelain through to light roccia colours that compliment
exterior house colours and landscaped areas.
Brushed Finish: Tiles with a brushed finish have a worndown look achieved by brushing the surface of the tile to
simulate natural wear over time.

Glazed: Glazed tiles are coated with glass-forming minerals
and offer high stain and water resistance. Glazed tiles have
a hard non-porous, impermeable surface after firing. They
can have a matt, semi-gloss or high-gloss finish. These tiles
do not require sealing.
Lappato (Semi-Polished) Finish: Semi-polished, also known
as “lappato” finish, is achieved by polishing the tile’s
surface with an abrasive wheel but not long enough to
attain the luster of a typical polished tile.
Exterior Finish: An undulating, textured finish that provides
low-slip qualities, and can resemble natural rock. They are
normally used for external areas and places that need extra
traction (wet areas, for example).
Inkjet Printing Technology: Latest method of manufacturing
tiles that allow for diversified designs on tiles so that no two
tiles look the same. In this way, natural stone tiles can be
replicated realistically.
Matt Finish: Matt tiles are smooth and flat and create a
more informal and softer look. This finish is created by
stopping short of the last stage of polishing. A matt finish
shows fewer scratches, and requires very little maintenance.
Polished Finish: These porcelain tiles are shiny, flat and
reflective, obtained by polishing the surface with an
abrasive wheel until it shines. They are easy to keep
clean and are popular for living, dining and bedroom
applications
Rectified Tile: Unlike a typical factory-edged tile, a rectified
tile has been cut to exact size after the firing process. This
process creates a precise edge and, as a result, can be
Shade Variation: Recent advances in technology have
allowed for increased flexibility in colour variation between
tiles. A scale has been introduced to communicate the
degree of variation intended.
V1: Uniform Appearance - Minimal differences among tiles
from the same production run.
V2: Slight Variation - Clearly distinguishable differences in
texture/pattern with similar colours
V3: Moderate Variation - While colours present on a single
tile is indicative of the colours expected on the other tiles,
the amount of colours will vary significantly.
V4: Substantial Variation - Random colour differences
between tiles so one tile may have totally different colours
from that on other tiles.
Slim Tiles: Unlike regular tiles which are commonly 9-11mm
thick, slim tiles are only 4-5mm thick, but have comparable
strength. This makes them ideal for renovations as they can
be laid on top of existing tiles, saving on demolition costs.
