G/T NEWS
Enrichment Fair - May 7, 2015!
Please plan on coming to the 14th Annual BBMS Enrichment Fair on the evening
of May 7! Not only will students be showcasing their excellent work from the G/T
Program and from classrooms all throughout the building, but our jazz band,
string quartet, and STEP Team will be performing as well! Attending this special
night will give you the opportunity to see live poetry readings, our travel debate
team in action, a live television broadcast, original student-created films, and so
much more! Everyone from the community is welcome to attend. Come and
celebrate our wonderful BBMS students on May 7!
#Kre8kindness Week
Congratulations to the 8th grade G/T Leadership Seminar for organizing
#KRE8KINDNESS @ BBMS week! Over 400 students took the
#KRE8KINDNESS pledge during lunchtime, earning themselves a personalized
pencil to "erase" any unkind comments or behaviors. Thank you to Mrs. Jones

Environmental Film Festival
Congratulations to our environmental film makers for successfully showcasing
their original movies at the Howard County Middle School Environmental Film
Festival at the American Film Institute Theatre in Silver Spring, MD on Friday,
April 17. These students used the professional film-making process (scriptwriting,
story-boarding, production planning, software editing, etc.) to create high-impact
films to create awareness about environmental issues. Thank you to the
following students for representing BBMS so well at the festival:

PTA Barnes And Noble Night - April 21st Join us for a special night of musical
performances and poetry. There will also be special raffles. Don’t forget to pick up

JROTC Anniversary 5K Run - Join Howard High School JROTC in celebrating
the JROTC 99th/49th Anniversary on April 25, 2015. To register go to

Coffee and Conversation - The Board of Education of Howard County
regularly holds Coffee & Conversation sessions at schools throughout the
county. These meetings provide citizens with an opportunity to share a cup
of coffee and chat informally with Board members. The meetings are held in
various regions of the county but interested persons from throughout the
county are invited to attend any or all of the meetings. The next Coffee &
Conversation With the Board of Education will be held on Saturday May 9
from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at Waverly Elementary School. Please view attached

Recreation and Parks - Recreation & Parks has established local baseball teams for several
age groups in your community. We are writing to invite you and your neighbors to
participate in the Columbia Baseball League (CBL). Come help us bring baseball back to
your community. First time and experienced players are welcome. Thanks to support from
the Howard County Public School System, permits for your local school fields were issued
to Recreation & Parks. We recognize some families could use a little extra assistance with
the price of registration. Recreation & Parks has a sliding scale for financial assistance
program. Howard County residency is required for financial assistance. To apply for
financial assistance, a scholarship application and acceptable proof of income must be

The First Tee - A unique youth development program that teaches children and youth ages
7-14 core values and healthy habits through the game of golf. Classes begin in Apr. at
Fairway Hills Golf Club in Columbia and additional program locations will be offered
around the county this summer. Sessions are $60-$150 and scholarships are available. For

Slayton House - On Camera Kids, Learn techniques for Acting on Camera and how to get

Students will be engaged in a “reimagined” activity, recycling out-of-style, worn clothing

Elite Camp This camp is for boys ages 12-15 and is designed to teach fundamentals,
advanced skills and strategies of baseball. Learn and improve skills through an intense week
of instruction, drills and simulated game experiences. All proceeds benefit the Factory
Athletics Foundation, the charitable arm of Baseball Factory.
