Call to Artists
Juror: Frank Saliani
Frank Saliani is a ceramic artist living and
working in Brooklyn, New York. Central to his
work is an exploration of the principle that
the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
His sculptural pieces and functional objects
highlight the connection between the larger
themes, patterns, and ideas that make up
our lives, and the smaller objects, moments,
and actions that merge to create them.
Mr. Saliani studied ceramics at Syracuse
University and received an MFA from Ohio
University. He has been an artist in residence at a
number of nationally recognized centers for the
arts, including the Arrowmont School for Arts
and Crafts, the Carbondale Clay Center, and
the Red Lodge Clay Center. He has exhibited
his work internationally and has been featured
in a number of publications, including Ceramics
Monthly and The Spirit of Ceramic Design.

of an instructor should not be submitted. Source material
must be original and not derived from copyrighted images.
Entries are limited to a maximum of 3 (per entry fee)
and must have been created in the last two years. Works
previously exhibited at the Buchanan Center will not be
accepted.
Specifications:
All two-dimensional works on paper must be framed and
under plexiglass. Glass is acceptable for works under 14” in
any direction. Frames and mats must be museum quality, clean,
and in good condition. Wiring must be in good condition and
substantial enough to support the weight of the artwork.
Saw tooth hangers are acceptable for works 14x14 or under
only. Hanging works may not exceed 40 lbs per unit, and
are limited to 50” including frame, in either direction. Threedimensional work should not exceed 75 lbs. or 60” in any
direction.
Liability:
The BCA is not responsible for items damaged due to
improper packing or from damages that occur during transit.
All work will be insured for up to $1,000 for the duration
of the exhibit. Work will not be insured for more than the
retail value.
Sales:
All sales made during the exhibition are subject to a 20%
sales commission. Please keep the commission in mind
when pricing your work. Work that is not for sale may be
submitted, but the insurance value must be listed.
Declarations:
The Buchanan Center for the Arts reserves the right to
photograph works for purposes of documentation, education
and publicity. Works will be included on our website. The
BCA is not responsible for works left over 30 days after
the close of the exhibit. Submitting an entry form to this
exhibition constitutes an agreement with all conditions of the
prospectus.

BCA encourages all entrants to review the instructions and
tutorials for formatting images and entering before beginning the actual entry process.
Entries will be active on the CaFE’ website April 1 through
June 15, 2015, and all entries must be completed by
midnight CST on June 15, 2015.
Care should be taken that images are accurate representations of your work. Accepted works that do not reasonably
meet the quality indicated in the image can be refused. The
BCA reserves the right to reject any work that is not
structurally sound.

Submissions will include: artist name, mailing address, phone
number, email address, and website address (if applicable), title
of each work submitted, year artwork completed, dimensions,
price, and presentation/installation requirements for the work
submitted including any special fixtures required.
Awards:
Recipients of cash awards will be determined by the juror and
announced at the opening reception. Artists need not be present.
Delivery/Return of Artwork:
Artists are responsible for the cost of shipping. The BCA prefers
the use of call tags or pre-paid shipping labels. If selected,
instructions for submission of artwork will be forwarded to the
entrant.

Beginning in 1988, the BCA provided programs and services
from an office in Monmouth’s Business and Technology Center.
In 1989 the Buchanan Center for the Arts was incorporated
as a non-profit 501(c)3, moving in June of 1991 to its current
location at 64 Public Square. Situated on the town’s square,
the historic building (ca.1870), houses a 2,400 square foot
gallery, administrative offices, a large all-purpose classroom,
and storage and preparation areas - all handicapped accessible.
The Buchanan Center for the Arts was designated by the
Illinois Arts Council Agency to serve as the local arts agency
for Warren County and is the hub for many area arts activities.
Additionally, the BCA provides support to a number of arts
entities that bring their programming to our community.
The Buchanan Center for the Arts advocates for the
arts and arts education, as well as provides presentations
of visual, literary, and performing arts throughout the
region. Additionally, the BCA offers technical assistance,
community outreach, opportunities for artists, and serves
the community as a creative space and special event venue.
The community BCA serves continues to support our
efforts through financial contributions and volunteering their
time to help make the programming at the BCA a reality.
Our mission is to promote education, participation, and
enjoyment of the arts in the Warren County region.The BCA
strives to make the arts available to all citizens in Warren County
without regard to race, religion, disability, or inability to pay
and ensures all residents have the opportunity to participate
in and experience the arts. Today our mission is a great deal
broader than envisioned by Mrs. Buchanan, but we feel she
would be pleased with the scope of arts programming now
available to the people of Warren County and Western Illinois.
