BCSD students test mettle
with numbers in Math Bowl

The Bakersfield City
School District held its 29th
annual BCSD Math Bowl
Wednesday at Chipman
Junior High.
About 250 students competed in one of two divisions, a gold division for
sixth-graders and a silver
for fifth-graders.

School, in first; Nathaniel
Nuñez, of Harding School,
in second; and Alex Peña, of
Franklin Elementary, in
third.
Super Star: Brian
Varona, of Franklin School,
in first; Philip Kessler, of
Thorner Elementary, and
Mustafa Hugais of
Downtown School tied in
second; and Donovan
Nguyen, of Chavez
Elementary; and James
Juarez, of Harding School
tied in third.
Thinker: Ethan Flores, of

(which also won the schoolwide trophy) in third.

submitted the most creative poster, and Casa
Loma had the poster with
the best representation of
this year’s theme.
