Cowichan Valley students did well at the Provincial French Public Speaking Competition on Saturday, May 3. Top of
the heap was Cobble Hill Elementary's Felix Wilson (Grade 6), who took third place.
Other Cowichan Valley finalists were Maxine O'Leary and Dorian Anjeleigh from École Mt. Prevost, and Anna Paula
Moreira and Maddie Pirie from Cowichan Secondary School.
The Lieutenant Governor presented Duncan's Felix Grosse with a Silver Youth Award through the Duke of Edinburgh
program.
Two local c.a.r. shop VALET auto body shops, Cowichan Collision and G.T. Collision Centre, received 2013
AutocheX Premier Achiever Awards for outstanding customer service.
Aidan Thorne, 22, Glaucia Desrochers, 28, Rachel Gonyea, 25, Hanna Seinen, 16, Jacquelle Stratton, 15, Helene
Daviau, 17, Elena Zaffino, 13, and Jessie Johnson, 25, are the winners of the second annual Youth Voice Awards,
part of the Cowichan Aboriginal Festival of Film & Art. These exciting awards, created by local singer and music
teacher, Cari Burdett, were judged by a panel of local professionals including Genevieve Charbonneau, Michelle
Tremblay, Wendy Robison and Burdett herself, who pointed out, "The Awards are not focused on winners, instead
focus is on mentorship, opportunities, and artistic development."
