In 2012 Beam initiated Wakefield Lit Fest to stimulate and celebrate reading and writing in Wakefield and district, using Beam’s base The Orangery as a hub. Trinity Walk has been a valued supporter of Wakefield Lit Fest since 2013 hosting a range of events and activities. www.trinitywalk.com Overview As part of this year’s 4th annual Wakefield Lit Fest (18-27 September 2015), Beam and Trinity Walk are seeking to appoint an Artist and Writer to work together to create a new bespoke arts commission that responds to the Trinity Walk Shopping Centre, engaging a wide variety of people (including customers, staff, businesses and local community groups) and with a particular focus on children and families. Artists and Writers are encouraged to apply as an existing partnership – but are also welcome to apply as individuals. Aims • Create exciting creative opportunities at Trinity Walk to entertain existing shoppers and to attract new audiences to the Centre with a focus on a child and family audience. • Create a ‘buzz’ – engaging Trinity Walk users with creative reading and writing opportunities as part of Wakefield Lit Fest 2015 • Provide opportunities for positive PR relating to: the activity and Trinity Walk; support of Wakefield Lit Fest; support of the Wakefield creative community; and community groups which border the site Process The selected Writer and Artist will be required to spend some time at the Centre (be ‘in residence’) – engaging with the communities of businesses and shoppers in order to develop a proposal for a series of performances, workshops or activities to take place on site at Trinity during the Wakefield Lit Fest (18-27 September 2015) with a focus on collaborative storytelling, which should include opportunities for interaction, especially for children. The activity may take place outside or inside shop units or spaces as appropriate and as agreed with Trinity Walk management. 1 As well as engaging with children and families, the Writer and Artist will also be encouraged to engage with businesses on site and to inspire their involvement with the activity and the wider Lit Fest. The Writer and Artist may also choose to engage with local community groups local to the Centre. Additional Information • Beam and Trinity Walk will support the commissioned Artist and Writer to make local contacts and connections and to source relevant information as required • Beam and Trinity Walk will undertake overall marketing and evaluation of the project however, we also encourage the selected Artist and Writer to document the development of the project and promote the collaborative commission • The selected Artist and Writer will be required to undertake a DBS check for this project Timeframe Date Action w/c 27 April 2015 Monday 18 May 2015, 12 noon By 1 June 2015 w/c 8 June 2015 Call for Expressions of Interest from Artists and Writers Deadline for submission of Expressions of Interest Writer and Artist selection in consultation with Trinity Walk Writer and Artist consultation period with stakeholders/ research phase (at Trinity Walk) Writer and Artist develop concept proposal Approach to be signed off with Trinity Walk agreement Writer and Artist deliver agreed activity as part of Wakefield Lit Fest 2015 June – July 2015 Beginning of August 2015 18-27 September 2015 Budget The Writer and Artist total fee for this commission is £2,125 to include a minimum of ten days work in total and all materials and expenses.
